My favourite race was the stocking race, where they had to wear a stocking on their head while sprinting 100 metres while carrying a tv and a VCR under their arms.

@newsouthwalesuploads.7509 ? Chomos as they are called in America, in Australia they're Rock Spiders, convicted Rock Spiders r kept in a separate prison all together, the bone yarders prison. In Victoria back in those days it was Ararat Prison. This is also where police informers and ex cops did their time. Today it's called Hopkins Correctional.
Burchor - No, not at all. You'd be surprised at the type of blokes you meet in Jail. They're not all "Uncle Chop-Chop", there were blokes when I did time up here in N.S.W Jails, that were ex-students of some of THE most elite Schools and from the homes of top flight Lawyers and Doctor's, I was the Son of a Warrent Officer 1st Class (Regimental Sargent Major) so I can tell you, it not just the Son's and Daughters of the "Underpriverliged" or the "Working Class", though they do comprise the majority, that end up in a place like Pentridge. A lot us do some stupid, or nasty shit, as the famous Philosopher, Freidrich Niezche put it,"Human ... all TOO Human".
I've often wondered, what's the point of these guys, what can they ever contribute as a whole to the community? Well I was wrong. This is a great example of their contribution. All power to them, they still have to serve their sentence but at least they're able to give something back to all the harm and cost they've caused.
So what's the deal here with the first segment? As a younger bloke i have no idea what the result was and what the general public thought of it. Did they ever do another athletics day like that?
Yes, they also held Boxing tournaments at Loddon. So they must of elsewhere. That all stopped when prison started operating for profit instead of reintegration.
@@rhiannonisastar thank you for the reply, that's what I was thinking the end result might of been. You can see by how into the main fight everyone was in this footage that could of easily done a "street beefs" equivalent were prisoners could fight and resolve issues in the ring, but as the rest of this shows it was rough as back when so maybe it couldn't of worked. Fuck the industrial prison complex system. Cheers again for the reply
As far as magistrates and judges go lol.... kidding. Duggan had an incredible amount of respect from so many inmates, not an easy accomplishment when ur the one serving out the punishments either. I only ever met him as a kid, but he definitely had spunk....n he n Graham Kennedy coulda been twins.
These kind of constructive programs are now sadly enough, frowned upon as its "bad for business" after privatisation of correctional services. Back in the day when there was honour among thieves unlike the criminals of our day currently.
