    The M9m has a certain feel, a snap to the photos that just can't be recreated by the succeeding M monochroms. It's a certain feel that is unique. The M9 images somehow seem more clear, especially after seeing images from the M10 mono. it's really difficult to describe but the clarity and texture of the photographs taken with the M9 is so uniquely different and is to me better.

    I own and regularly use a M9M and share your enthusiasm for this particular camera. I have not yet had a chance to get my hands on a M10M, but I understand it has two fundamental advantages over the M9M which can make a difference. At least they would to me -
    1) shutter noise: the M9M is really loud and in quiet environments it can be quite annoying. I understand the M10M is way quieter;
    2) processing speed: this is something that really bugs me with the M9M. I've lost countless street shots because after 7 shots the buffer fills up and the camera won't let you take any additional pictures for a couple of seconds. I am pretty confident the M10M is way better in this respect;
    Curious to hear your thoughts on this ..

    Nice B&W photography. The original monochrom was my ideal camera when it came out but quite expensive, and I'd spent all that money on an M9! Years later I finally got one used and had the sensor replaced free with a 1-year warranty. It was a like-new camera at a very reasonable price. Yes, I'd love an M10 monochrom for the reason you mention - handling/size, and quiet shutter, optional EVF, high ISO - but the original monochrom does everything I want with the one real limitation of the slow buffer. If you are not doing cropping, or very large prints, the original monochrom - which punches far above its seemingly low 18MP - has amazing detail. Also, if you are not using the latest ASPH/APO lenses, but older 'vintage' lenses that sensor is just fine (actually the 50 Summicron-M APO was developed for the original monochrom), and file size is easy to work with. BTW; if you want to use a polarizing filter without an EVF the old Leitz swing-out for a RF camera works, and as for wider than Camera finder lenses, an external finder does fine - bright, [usually] larger view, and RF focus isn't as important with 24/21/ or wider lenses.

    Great video! Keep up the good work.
    I have read online that there is an issue with some M9 sensors. As I was recently offered an M9 monochrom, how can I tell if the sensor is faulty? Would I have to change sensors every so often? (I read somewhere that would be for about a thousand US dollars). Will the M9 sensor be discontinued?
    Thanks!

      It is discontinued, but there are still replacement opportunities. Leica is now charging quite a bit to replace the sensor. There is a company in the US that is now doing replacements as well, but their name escapes me. If the owner has not replaced the sensor, you should assume it will fail and pay accordingly. Just my .02.....

    Great comparison. Do you remember by any chance which lens did you use at 10:32?
