Badass build man I love it! I've been looking all over youtube for a 78-81 LQ4 swapped camaro and yours is the only one that I've actually been able to see and hear. I am currently LQ4 swapping my 79 Camaro myself and I cant wait to get it running.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I’ll check out your build and channel. You’ll love the power from the LQ4. Thanks for watching!!
Love these cars had a 1979 z28 . Good job
Thanks very much!
Well done man, car looks great.
Thanks very much and thanks for watching!
Man, I love your z car!. I've got one just like yours.
I put a jet engine in mine last spring, and the chicks really dig me.
Thanks for watching!!
Sick
Thanks!
I’ve got an ‘81 with a 350 SB. Was my dads before he passed. Been sitting in my garage because I really don’t know where to begin on it. Had the drive shaft and tranny replaced with a 700R4. Just want to get it rolling again. Love the car! I want to eventually want to do an LS swap on mine as well.
Thanks for watching and commenting. An LS swap is a great upgrade but it sounds like you’ve got a good platform to drive as is!
Nice build. More fun with a t56.
Yes a lot more fun! Thanks for commenting and watching!
Just sold buddies 1968 z-28. One owner. All numbers matching. Sad to see it go. Estate sale
Sounds like it was a one in a million car.
Great video 👍
I've got a 81 Camaro and I'm putting a l83 with a t56, my question is where did you get the clutch master cylinder and pedal?
The clutch master is a factory 1998-2002 fbody and the pedal is from a 4speed 81 Camaro. Thanks for watching and liking!
Did I understand you correct in that the car has original dished pistons, but new? Heads are still standard 317´s but decked a bit?
I´ve just bought a 2003 LQ4 that I will put in my 2nd gen camaro with a M22. And I wonder how good I could get it, still using the original dished pistons and 317 heads. But with new intake (probably a FAST LSXR) and a camshaft with springs. I am hoping I could get it reasonable responsive with just a cam, headers intake and good tune. If I also could get 390-400 whp with my idea of a setup then I would be really happy. But I dont have any idea of what the low compression LQ4 will do with the 317 heads. And what I can get without upgrading either them or the pistons.
It has pistons with the same dish as stock but they are aftermarket. My heads were milled .020 so it has maybe 9.7:1 compression instead of the stock 9.4:1. You should have no problem meeting your power goals with the mods you listed. I ran 12.2 with this car when it had a th350 and it made 370rwhp with that trans, an LS1 intake manifold and 1 5/8 headers. Now with the ls6 intake, 1 7/8 headers and t56 400 is about right.
What size wheels do you have and did you have to do any modifications to get them to fit? I have a 78 z28 I'm building for autocross and was wondering!
Wheels are 18 x8 front and 18x9 rear. No modifications required except a very light lip roll on the rear due to only 5” offset. 5.5” offset rear would be perfect.

Did you relocated the alternator if so do you happen to have part number thanks in advance
Hi there,
The alternator is the factory F-body type in the factor F-body location. I'm using all F-body accessories and not the LQ4 truck accessories. There is one hole that must be drilled and tapped on the iron block where the alternator bolts and that is all that's needed to use F-body accessories on an LQ4.
What drive shaft did you run with the t56 im doing same swap
I had my stick 81 Camaro driveshaft shortened.
how did you run the fule system?
I had a stock 1981 tank baffled and sumped with a Walbro 255 pump going to a vette filter/ regulator then a single feed to the factory LS fuel rail.
I would get a t56 but idk got to drive manual so I’m goin 4l80
Nothing wrong with a 4l80
What’s the name of those rims please?
