7.32m Venezuelans have left their country because of this individual. They didnt go to China because China never takes refugees so instead they went to neighbouring Latin American countries and the USA.

The US also has a responsibility in creating economic venezuelan refugees: the sanctions imposed on the country created economic hardship that affected the poor and middle class.
The Chavez (and later Maduro) governments were socialist and progressive. They wanted to nationalize the vital oil industry as well as put in place social programs. This was in contradiction to Washington's neoliberal ideology who preferred to have the economic levers under the control of a loyal (to them) and rich elite.
The fact that Venezuela has one of the most important proven oil reserves (shared with a few other oil countries) did not help. They have been targeted for economic sabotage. Their gold reserves have been frozen (or confiscated?) and there were even coup attempts.
