"Imagine if the gas was on the wheel" Well, that's basically what the Model T and most early vehicles had. There was a lever where we currently have the wiper stalk that you would adjust for acceleration. And as mentioned by others, adaptive wheels for people with disabilities are usually hand controls... and then there is Alex Zanardi ;)
It seems both of them never played Sega Rally on the arcades... It handled like that, really arcady slippery feel. Which is a good thing because when you are doing a Rally time attack you go so fast and have so little control that it feels really accurate. I got a few videos of me doing Sega Rally 3 which has a really similar handling model. Now, Daytona has really good gameplay physics, it's not realistic at all but sure it's fun. Same with ManxTT. Sega SuperGT and Daytona 2 is where it's at though. At least from the older generation, if you wanna go with modern stuff, you got Wangan Midnight and Initial D which are pretty good.
CheFAR If only every company had the work ethic of Capcom when it came to the Saturn, as their games were always top notch. They did have an advantage, what with being close to Sega’s offices in Japan, so the architecture of the system wasn’t as much of a puzzle to them. I still maintain that credit is due.
As someone who grew up with a Sega Saturn, I am so happy that somebody is taking about it. The 2d games like Clockwork Knight and Astal were a lot of fun nd Night into Dreams is very good. Now if only more people could play the Panzer Dragoon games.

Yas! I picked one of those Saturn wheels up at a store in Taiwan for about $20. I love it! The store even threw in this Saturn to PlayStation adapter so I can use the Saturn wheel on PS and PS2 racing games. Not sure how it works, but it works!
In regards to having the gas pedal on the steering wheel: My cousin was paraplegic and she had a van that was customized with the accelerator and brake attached to the steering column. Similar to a motorcycle grip.
For those of you owners out there who own Sega Saturns: I recommend saving your Saturn's game data to a Sega Saturn RAM memory cartridge of your choosing. Saving your Saturn's game data to your Saturn's built-in save battery is not recommended. And by the way, Mark Bussler of Classic Game Room reviewed the Saturn racing wheel. He also reviewed the Sega Dreamcast racing wheel as well.
Love to see you guys do racing games! As a racer, I can say that even the newer video games have very little in common with real life racing. Unless you've got a full motion rig, you don't get the feel of the tires, the feedback from the car, the sense of elevation, the g-forces. But I've found that sims are pretty useful to learn the layout of the track before you get out there in a real car. And if you guys ever want to learn how to drive stick, I'd be happy to show you! It's pretty fun!

"Gas on the steering wheel", funnily enough tractors have a gas lever in addition to the pedal, sometimes by the steering wheel, particularly on older tractors.
It is amazing how low the percentage is of people that can't drive a manual. I live in an area with a lot of "mountain" people around and I know a lot of people that can't drive stick. I've owned 4 cars in my life and 3 of them were/is a manual. I like driving a manual and it cuts way down on the amount of people that can borrow your vehicle.
Wow! Mike is really explaining how racing game checkpoints work? Even home console exclusive games adopted that arcade style system. The Saturn racing wheel, although no force feedback or pedals is preferable to standard joypad if only for the analogue steering.
@edek So do I, and the pad isn't even close to the quality of the wheel. Are you playing with it between your legs like Mike? That doesn't work at all imo, I use a stool and some clamps. Between the legs makes it feel like ur in a clown car.
While James is playing, Mike needs to play Samba De Amigo on the travel pack.

There actually is cars with gas and brake on the steering wheel, for the people with legs disabilities, my grandfather owned one of those.
