It's actually safe for gringos (foreigner) to be in the favelas, if you have permission to be there, with most gringos do, because they usually buy tourism packages that already have a guy from inside the favela that is responsible to show them all the parts of the place. If you have a touristic guide your definitely safe.

As a brazilian, don´t go to the Favelas there is litteraly nothing that is worth the risk, all the favelar are dominated by drug dealers, and almost every day they get into shootings against the cops or other gangs. so if you ever go to Rio, just stay in the rich part, and obviously watch out for your phone and gold chains.
You'll be fine if you go on a guided tour. I'm glad I went when I was in Rio, there are beautiful things to see and great people to meet even though the surroundings are grim.

As a Brazilian I must say, most of Brazilian people would never step their foot in Rio de Janeiro, bc Hell de Janeiro is such a dangerous place where even poor people are kidnapped, crazy place.
I also don't get why foreign people would even consider going to a favela ever in their lives. There's literally nothing to see in there but exactly what you would expect. A lot of poverty, a lot of fucked up houses with no sewerage and a lot of people who don't speak your language. Even if you manage to minimize the risk by going to the right place at the right time there's still nothing to gain from it. Not worth the risk, stay away from those hellholes.

@@jayn6943I'm Brazilian and I 100% agree with you, there's places in Brazil there are literally heavenly and much, very much safer than Rio, if you go to Brazil, visit the South part of Brazil, or the Amazon, with is in the north, there's so many places that are I billion times better than Rio, you just need to look up.

But is very safe for gringos, because 99% of the time the leader of the favela already have guaranteed permission to them for being there, with don't happens to us Brazilians, only gringos get this, to spend money in the favela. They want gringos to like the place and buy drugs and other things from them.

I've seen many examples of people having negative reviews of Nina and her interviews, or the fact she gets to do what she does - but honestly, it's such a wonderful look into who fighters really are, ask fun questions and integrate jokes to the interviews. Shes definitely making MMA better overall, and more inclusive and interesting. Nice job and keep it up!
What's interesting about favelas, places controlled by drug trafficking with people held hostage by drug traffickers, being Brazilian I think it's ridiculous, the romanticization they make of favelas, I don't live in Rio, I live in Curitiba, everyone from Curitiba finds this romanticization of favelas ridiculous, lawless place dominated by crime

Favela is an incredible place to visit here, everyone is friendly and if you meet a drug dealer just act like a Jurassic Park movie: Don't move, don't breathe, don't do eye contact. If they confront you don't worry you will be remembered.

seperation anxiety couldve been fixed at puppy stages if you dont make it a big deal about when you leave and when you come into the house like dont give them all the attention when you first enter it will help alot..

As a Brazilian, Rio is like one of the worst of Brazil these days. The nature is still there, but no much more. It´s not the violence only, but the culture there is bronken too. But if you know the rigth guys, like Pantoja and Aldo, you can go to some Favelas (because there is a lot of them), not anywhere but somewhere.
