Re: Radio: adjust your skelch if you have it. Yes, digital scanners arebavailable that do unencypt trucked transmissions. They are in the $750+ price range.
In a previous video I asked if these guys perform an air brake test on their train before leaving each pickup &, or setout point. This requires a walking inspection of the setup and the release of the brake cylinders. The telemetry device does not relieve you of the walking inspection. I haven't observed any of these crews of performing such a test.
I believe that all trains are required to perform a brake test before they enter the mainline after doing switching maneuvers. On tanker cars they can just look to see if the brake cylinders are extended or retracting like they should. The design of tanker cars the brake gear is easily visible.
Bud, ETD works and has a digital read out of the air pressure in the last car, its up to the crew members to comply, road test ( apply and release ) are FRA mandatory ….
Jason, I’m not an expert but I’m reasonably certain that that buzzing and crackling you hear is from a digital transmission instead of analog because here in Vermont when I try listening to any of the police cause they are scrambled so all I hear is that buzzing. The police went digital because a lot of people who may be breaking into a place would have someone at home, listening to a scanner and send them text messages to let them know if the police are on the way or not and this is the way they stop that because you can’t hear what the police are actually saying. I don’t think there’s any kind of police scanner that would pick up digital because they are specific to a particular agency on that frequency it’s a specific device on the transmitter and receiver
