Tommy Emmanuel an absolutely phenomenal Human being I have met him several times such a true gentleman always humble always willing to offer advice and his time and a truly gifted musician that has spent a lifetime practising and following his dream and passion to provide love happiness and entertainment to the world thank you Tommy much love from Australia mate👍🏻🎸👍🏻👍🏻
Tommy is absolutely an inspiration! I had the joy of seeing him perform last week at the Sheldon Theater in St. Louis. It was a birthday gift from my wife and included a meet & greet with the maestro. I still can't believe it! Tommy was awesome-- a true gentleman & zero arrogance. Can't wait to see him live again. If you, gentle reader, get a chance... just go! You'll see how it's done and why even two encores wasn't enough. This was the best concert of my life ... & I've seen many. 😎🎸👍
I was at a concert of Tommy on the 19th of march 2019 in Luxor theater in Rotterdam. It was the third time i went to see his concert (I even meet and greeted him a few years earlier in Rijswijk-Netherlands) and noticed Tommy had a bad night. He even said on stage he had the feeling he played in a lounge en didn't feel the excitement. He also had a plaster (band-aid) on a finger on his right hand. But he played great songs and gave a great show. That's a true professional.
Tommy's interviews are so interesting in general, but this one is fantastic, as the interviewer is himself a phenomenal musician. It makes the questions even greater ! Thanks for sharing 👍🙏
Two quick practice stories for ya. Oscar Peterson said, "if I don't practice for one day, I notice. If I don't practice for two days the critics notice. If I don't practice for three days the audience notices". And the great trumpet player Doc Severinsen was reported to spend EIGHT HOURS a day with the horn on his lips! Not counting performance time.
I know the story like this: 1 day, I notice, 2 days, my wife notices, and if I don't practice for 3 days, my neighbors notice :) Also didn't hear it for O. Peterson.
First sorry if i use a bad english, not a native speakere here, but i have to say that the real practice its really how you practice more than the hours you practice. When you train things like technical excersises on your instrument you can repeat it trough many hours, but things like learning new stuff or aplying new resources on playing needs a short period of time because the focus you have on it
If you love music its easy to spend hourss playing, but practicing or learning involves a high mental demand, so you have to clear the difference between both
I was lucky enough to see Tommy on one of his " being totally outrageous and really flying your kite.." performances. Out of the 5-6 times I've seen him, he was truly on fire. (I think the 3rd time I had the pleasure of catching him in Toronto). He's just happy to be alive and playing guitar.
What a joy to see and hear Tommy talk about what keeps him going. Nobody plays more concerts each year than Tommy Emmanuel. I don't know how he does it.
It happened when I felt bad about one of my concerts I saw a videorecording later and realized: It was just what i felt like in that very moment, not more. This can be a trap.
Metronome, yes!! I'm so sick of hearing musicians, especially some drummers, that it stiffens the performance. Crap. He explains exactly how and why YOU keep the feel but the time is rock solid. But you can't manipulate time until you have mastered it.
It is so true what he says! of course we can play on virtuosity, (but not play in rhythm: (......a little bit shame) or when we cannot be abble to play fast (personally my play is quite slow), or when the song requires simple playing, I love to play on rhythm! It is very effective for giving interpretation, and having fun!
@@Sadowsky46 Hahaha!! Of course I'm just happy that one of the world's best players, at sixty-something, still plays to King Metronome. Many eschew it as if there's shame involved. Stefan Grossman is one. Strange.
Singer/dancer I just wanted to say that what Tommy said about the timing change, wow, yes, yes, yes. As jazz singer...don't borer me,right? The changes in tempo and key, even pauses are like super food to both singer and dancer. Thanks Joscho for bring in Tommy Emmanuel, one of the best, just sayin'.lolly

Tommy's worst day playing guitar, versus my best day, well, go see Tommy good people. I'm a songwriter first who gets around a little bit on the guitar, but man-o-man I marvel at these elite guitarist and how great they're able to play. Especially the acoustic players. Just them and their guitar. No mechanical gadgets to help them. Awesome!!!
Tommy Emmanuel is The Master.

Tommy Emmanuel, the best guitarist, the best teacher and the kindest speaker.

A.J. Green you won’t get better practicing less

2 absolute beasts of guitar players right there, and Tommy is always so wise
Some of my favorite videos are these two playing live together. Such fun.
I love his truth , his story and his spirit . So friendly and giving .
Thank you UA-cam for bringing us together , in a seat 10 feet away .
I’ve been listening to Tommy for over 40 years and I won’t stop now!
I saw Tommy in ten concerts. Sometimes brillant but never bad. Most inspiring guitar player I know. Thanks to both of you!
tommy is the kind of man who gets along well with the soundguy
Tommy is such a great inspiration to me, and makes me want to practice more !
Yes man , i call him my daddy
Practice with a metronome until it becomes your heartbeat ..
Hey Tommy, I've loved your playing for many many years esp the the gypsy jazz. My first idol was Chet Atkins. Thank you Joscho. Love your playing too.

Love that! Human! We are all Human!! Thanks for sharing Joshco!
Tommy's my kind of man...Total respect!!
What a treat to watch these two.
Tommy is the best picker because he is musically strong - always a pleasure and I love his fresh strings they bang all the time 🤗
You two are such a humble person....
Just love these two guys, so inspiring and so precious these days! Sending much love to all of ya from Austria :)
Thank you very much Tommy Emmanuel and Josho Stephan.

Yes, there's no link between your self consciousness and what other people perceive about you :)
An honest opinion of every performer
This is why you are an amazing human being, you are on the stage like human to humans, Tommy is such a shiny human, very rare

Everyone wants to skip the hard part and just be a virtuoso. You gotta earn it!
Excellent!!!!

Great video. I seen both of these boys at the Chet Atkins convention years ago. They are beyond Brilliant. Thanks
4:35 in spain we call "this magic" in the flamenco world "sacar el duende" translate is like "take out the goblin"
Joscho is such a great host/interviewer.
"The Day Finger Pickers Took Over ..." maybe it's one of the best acoustic albums of all time with Tommy & Chet Atkins
Please upload more parts of this interwiew, I love it
Front row to see him at Pepperdine last month. Live, no one close to this good. The gtr solo was jawdropping/mind blowing.
What a wonderful man , whatever you choose to be, would be led by your philosophy and attitude
It took me month to learn Angelina and Mombasa. Tommy is one of my bigest influences. Great guitar player and great person.
Great stuff , thank you 🎸
Good interviewer.
Thank you for this! Heading off to get some practice in right now :)
Great Master's words!
This video is perfect

Does anyone know the name of the opening music to this interview ?
Would like to hear the intro (saints marching in I guess) completely. Is that version posted?
People who love and admire you are all over the world , there may be language barriers , it would be nice if videos like this have subtitles .
Guess who i am " Yeaa yeeaa yeaaa"

Dean Cain???
I love you both, but No! If someone praises you, accept it! Don’t argue with them. Don’t belittle their opinion of how much they enjoyed your show.
Wie er erst deutsch sprechen wollte😂
Emmanuel practices? Noooo!... I always imagined he just picks up the guitar and music comes out.
(That was a fanboy-joke)
