    Well done, sir. It's great to see your Metro back on the road where she belongs. All involved should be proud as it's quite the undertaking for the home mechanic.
    I'm about to embark on a bit of mini project myself. My Dolomite has come off the road to have some new brake hoses, which has increased in scope to now include replacing all the brake pipes and the subframe bushes having found that one is severely deteriorated!
    Well done again!

    I've got to say, as someone who grew up at a time when a Metro was synonymous with a poorly looked after shitbox, I've always been a little biased against them. But boy does this one look cracking. It just goes to show what TLC will do. It's utterly lovely and I hope you can get all the things you want done soon.

    Fantabulous! I have so such admiration for your determination and patience. Well done. There seem to be a lot more young bucks jumping onto your motoring bandwagon but in every respect none have come close to you intelligent, researched and cheering presentations, whether repairs as with Melody, or your road tests which always are utterly brilliant and enjoyable, mainly due to your obvious bubbling enthusiasm. Long may you remain the No1 UA-cam car expert!

    My first car was a 1.0 Metro City on a B plate, in glorious Champagne Beige. Over time, I upgraded the City spec, adding plastic bumpers, one piece headlights, digital clock, MG exhaust and carb, and even fitted the clocks out of montego to get a tach... the Montego clocks just plugged straight in and the tach worked, with no fiddling. I love the tach clocks on this era of Austin products, and I think tach clocks would look great in Melody, certainty with the MG interior!

    I have a lot of experience working on these engine/clutch/gearboxes over many years and if I remember correctly the Metro clutch adjustment was meant to be measured by the amount of free play you have when pulling the pedal back towards you and not by the more common way of measuring the free play before feeling resistance in the pedal. It is many years since I worked on these cars but it came back to me as soon as I saw your description. Hope that this might be of some use to you.

    Good video again Ed. The gold minilite style wheels look great with that red body. Used to have a silver MG Metro years ago. Was never a cool car at the time compared to the other hot hatches. My mum owned one, great little family car.
    Our neighbour traded her very battered Triumph Hearld estate for a new Metro back in 1981.
    It was delivered to her and off she went on its maiden voyage.
    Only for Mrs Jackson to return with it and it's first dent.
    Don't know where that came from she said . 😅 enjoyable video 👍

    Nicely done Ed,when you tune the engine use some atf in the dashpot it's slightly better at dampening the piston ,also with the replacement air filter fitted it will be running leaner than it used to,check the emissions data from your mot check and take the mixture screw in about half a turn to start with.

    There's a little hack you could try on the clutch cable. Pull the cable from the bulkhead and pack the gap out with penny washers . I've done this on 2 of my MGZR's. Glad to see the Metro back on the road, gotta love an A Series Metro

    I'd think the tuning issue has as much to do with E10 fuel as the air filter, but know stage 1 kits (filter and exhaust) used to come to come with an SU needle.
    Probably still do and worth finding out which one.
    Haynes do a manual for SU carbs and detail the various needle profiles.
    I have a one here somewhere and a scanner, if it helps.

    It may be the rose tinted glasses but I would love to get a mk1 mg metro again mine had the stupid 315mm tyres (really expensive for the time ) but I learned the Michelin TDXE tyres stuck to the road but as they were a soft compound they didn't last but unbelievable grip and handling from the metro. Great memories I've had some really powerful cars in my time but I have fantastic memories of the metro.
    Funniest one being my now wife of 30yrs one of my mates and his girlfriend had been at the cinema and headed back to the car to go home we got in the car and I started it looked in the mirror and asked my mate what had he done with the sheepskin rug from the back shelf ( a stupid but popular thing at the time) he denied moving it and we started arguing I was swiftly told by now wife to get a grip and behave I then put the headlights on and immediately realised what had happened. My own car was parked directly in front of me it turns out I had opened and started someone else's mg metro the actual owner of the car at this point turned up and started to argue and threaten me as he thought I was trying to steal his car but when I pointed to mine he stopped shouting and immediately calmed down and couldn't understand how my keys worked on his car so we tried his keys on mine and they opened it and started it as well. We all had a bit of a laugh about it but next day I installed a hidden kill switch and a battery isolator to stop it being stolen

    Well done Ed, you gained loads of knowledge to take onto the next project. Had the same clutch issue on the mk2 I had. Pull the clutch cable through the bulkhead as you've already done and hear the pedal click up, you then slip washers and jubilee clip behind it, about 8mm from memory and that will keep the clutch pedal fully up. We'll done

    Impressed with what you have done with the car but lose the tacky air filter and put the original one back on. The cone filter only makes the engine noisy.

    • @TwinCam
      @TwinCam  8 місяців тому

      I'm not sure whether I mentioned it in this one, or it might be the next one that comes in a couple of weeks, but I can't fit the original!
      The new inlet manifold is a different size to the original, meaning the factory airbox fouls on it. However, an MG Metro airbox will fit, and one is on the way so I can mix and match based on how I feel :)

    • @TwinCam
      @TwinCam  8 місяців тому +1

      No. While it would be the correct way of doing it, A-Series Metros don't have the facilities for its fitment. First of all, I'd need the whole suspension units and pipes from a K-Series, then I'd need to modify the connecting cone things on the back, then add the brackets to the body for the pipes to hang. A lot more work than it's worth.
