Christian theology says you are no longer bound to obey Old Testament law, but that doesn't change the fact that according to the bible, *your God still said those things* at a certain point in history. I'll bet you revere the 10 commandments, right? They are part of the SAME law. If you were living during the time of Moses, it could very well be you that gets invaded by Israelites, taken captive and forced to be a slave wife for an Israelite man who is already married to someone else. And all of that done in obedience to the law of Moses given by God himself.
So just so YOU understand! NEW TESTIMATE (Mathew 5:17) Jesus said he came to fulfill the old laws, he didn't come to abolish the old laws. In that case, I do HAVE QUESTIONS !! :) a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Can you settle this? g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die? i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? j) My frind has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) IF YOU HAVE NEVER QUESTIONED YOUR INDOCTRINATION >> THEN HOW CAN YOU TELL YOU HAVE NOT BLINDLY SUBMITTED TO MYTHOLOGY?
If you read the Torah you will find a lot of rules there, some fair some today dated. So this New Covenant you talk of you must be talking about a different one from Scripture. Jeremiah talks of a different one in which God will put "His Torah in your hearts" You must be talking about your own torah or teaching.
This is what happens when people who don't have proper understanding of the bible try to be smart. It's also what happens when scripture is taken out of context for their own purpose. 1. "You may acquire male and female slaves from the pagan nations that are around you" - the actual verses talk of buying a slave, not capturing and enslaving them. Slaves sold themselves to pay off debts in these times (in many cases, though not all I'm sure). As well, it was an image of sinners today lost in their sinful lives, needing a way out, and Christ offering himself as payment (then we belong to him; a slave to Christ). What God allowed in the OT was because of the hardness of peoples hearts; it was not ideal because people are inherently evil due to sin. Also consider, God's plan for Israel was to TEACH the pagans (the lost) around them of the one true GOD, so they could also be saved (since they worshiped many gods). Letting them be has eternal consequences that are worse. 2. Comparing ISIS "female captive" to a "wife that was once a slave" is just wrong, period. SHE'S NOT A SLAVE IF SHE'S NOW A WIFE, lol. Not smart at all, sorry. Also, it says "sexual intimacy", not RAPE. You need to love BOTH of them. 3. "menstrual cycle" - SO WHAT!? I suppose most men actually like to do it while she's bleeding...? lol. 4. "don't have sexual relations with woman and her daughter" - Also SO WHAT!? This is a good thing to follow I think, lol. 5. "Do not take your wife's sister" - EXACTLY, not a good idea, it's wrong, so this is correct, lol. If your wife dies, then of course, you can remarry. 6. "If a man beats a slave" - first of all, it's assumed they did something wrong worthy of such beating. The master must abide by rules to treat their slaves with respect (Eph 6 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart ... And masters, treat your slaves in the same way."). THAT is what God expects. However, again, due to sin causing 'masters' to be evil, any death is evidence the correction went too far (perhaps in heat of anger), and was obviously not warranted at all. In such case, the master will also be punished. Think of it like your boss - they should discipline their employees, but many do go too far, and any death of an employee is obvious it went way to far. We are responsible to treat people with respect, but there are the evil bosses that are just mean and selfish, and God will hold them accountable in the end. The OT rules were there because of the sinful ways of the people, and the hardness of their hearts. They took more than one wife for this same reason (they didn't listen to God), BUT FROM THE BEGINNING IT WAS NOT SO. (Gen 2:24, Eph 5:31) Because the Israelites had been held captive in Egypt for 400 years, the concept of God had been distorted by the polytheistic, pagan Egyptians. Such foolishness. Twisting scripture to fit atheistic views is what they love to do the best. It's because they cannot see the whole truth, just a blurry glimpse which doesn't make any sense to them. If you don't accept it by faith, and let the Holy Spirit put more light on it, it will never make any sense. ISIS rules/scriptures are also a result of evil men doing the same thing - not listening to God, and twisting scripture to suit their own desires, because they like living the life they have now and don't want to change.
It's not about whether you think the rules are right or wrong, the point is Islam is an Abrahamic religion and many of their rules are clearly straight out of the bible that their religion is based on.
"If these rules ... were never written, I wonder how many lives would be saved" is blaming God (and thus the Bible in general) for some group of people taking stuff out of context and twisting it. I'm sure that's never happened to anyone ever in all history; someone saying stuff, and someone else twisting it. ;) Terrorists also use the internet for wrong purposes, so why not blame that as well? lol Perhaps if the internet was never created ...
If you don't accept it by faith..... Exactly. If you choose to believe in this for no good reason and without any verifiable, objective evidence, it will make sense to you. I bet this is the only area of your life where you accept it by faith.
Men are women murdering, alcoholic, depraved, perverts that suicide or avoid that statistic by slamming themselves into a tree or "accidentally falling" of a balcony.
4:00 - Can't have sex with two sisters... Genesis has Jacob marrying and having children with both Leah and Rachel! Granted this was pre-law so apparently God changed his mind.... or whatever apologists want to say about it.
There's no question that the god of the Bible gives evil commandments but the Christians say that these rules were just for the Hebrews and Jesus changed all those rules when it comes to Gentiles, even though Yahweh and Jesus are supposed to be the same dude Jesus also said that not one law given by Yahweh would ever change until the end of the Earth but, of course, Paul changed that and said the old rules don't apply and that's what Christian go by i.e. Paul, not Jesus or Yahweh.
***** Yes, I know, but modern Christians prefer Paul's visionary versions of the teachings of Jesus over what he is purported to have said in Mark and subsequent synoptic gospels.
No, the Bible doesn't say what it says. This is how it works. When the Bible disagrees with me, the words don't really mean what they say. They actually say what _I_ think. They only appear to say those things. You have to read it in a very special way. The words go in your head, get all turned around, then they say what you want them to say. Case closed. The Bible wins.
It always turns around to wanting to own slaves. Even capitalism is turning into a slave state. When you raise the cost of living freely, to only the very rich how is this any different than slavery?
As someone who has watched around 50 videos covering the topic of the Bible and slavery this one truly changed my thinking. bravo . This video totally address the " but the culture was different back then " argument and will help me move forward with the discussion.
Some feel a little stretchy, since while they contained similar elements they were in many cases sufficently different to prevent a good fit. Bible was clearly a source of inspiration however.
Abrahamic religions are archaic, awful and no longer relevant or applicable to modern society. I think the similarities in this video highlight all three religions are dangerous when interrupted literally, as ISIS have done in their pamphlet.
+GeuwgleSuxBallz I would think everyone are free to make their own conclusions. Personally it further cements my belief that religion should have as little influence on laws as possible.
I made a kind of funny comment earlier but then I got to thinking about those poor poor captives. Imagine if you've just hit puberty and they find evidence of your first cycle. I don't want to imagine what comes next. It's enough to make a guy sick.
Aside from my footage of atheists responding to muslim protesters, this is the first time I've addressed the subject. Normally it's not my thing, but the irony was so great I couldn't pass it up.
the big question is why ISIS (And so many islamists) follow the silly rules in their holy book while so few christians follow the exactly same rules in their own holy book
Aetius Socratis I agree that Islamic apologists have exaggerated just how golden their golden age was and that islam was not responsible for those accomplishments (if anything it was responsible for ending them) but to deny that the arabs achieved anything is just as absurd as the exaggerated case the apologists make. The muslims engaged in barbarous activities but so did everyone at that time; the Chinese empire did horrible things but that doesn't mean it didn't accomplish anything. I suspect that the books you've read on the topic are just as biased as those written by Muslims. I've seen many objective sources on the topic that explain the accomplishments of the era.
Aetius Socratis I hate when Muslims accuse their critics of being racist but people like you, who refuse to accept that anyone from the Arabic race has ever accomplished anything, are certainly not helping
You're correct that the rules about owning, using and abusing other people is common to the Abrahamic faiths - and most other religions, I'd guess. But, in your first example taken from the IS rulebook, they appear to say, by the end of their response to question three (Can all unbelieving women be taken captive?), that they agree with the consensus that it is forbidden to take unbelievers as captives. So, IS doesn't permit capturing non-believers. This probably doesn't mean they can go free though - it probably means they get killed, not captured.
+JE Hoyes - You're reading the answer incorrectly. They definitely can capture _unbelieving_ women, however it goes on to say that there is dispute about capturing *apostate* women, meaning women who were once muslims. It says ISIS leans towards the consensus that capturing _apostate_ women is forbidden.
Thanks for the clarification. I also went to the link at MEMRI you've given. The whole list of rules reads like an instruction manual for rapists, abusers and murderers. In other words: I.S. I'm subbed to the MEMRI youtube channel but I'm aware of their bias (and disabled commenting), so I tend to take a lot of their output with a sceptical view.
They disable comments? I'm surprised. To me, that's a form of dishonesty. Anyway, that's why I sourced the original PDF pamphlet as well, because I didn't want to simply trust MEMRI's english interpretation. I used google translate on the arabic text in the pamphlet, and I was satisfied that MEMRI had translated it correctly.
Discern4 There can all kinds of reasons why someone (or a corporate group) would disable comments and ratings. I wouldn't always consider it a form of dishonesty. I think MEMRI possibly might have them disabled because they are more a broadcaster of views rather than a platform for debate. As a corporation/business, they might not want to commit the resources to cover a team of PR/social media spin doctors to help them set fires and put out fires in the media via social commentating on UA-cam. It's more a case of throwing enough mud on the largest wall to see what sticks. So, like you, I tend to check sources - particularly with groups like MEMRI. I think they are a propagandist group. That is not to say that they make up facts, although they might do that, merely that they focus only on one side of the facts. Cherrypicking everything that throws muslims and islam in a bad light.
I agree disabling comments may be appropriate for a business, I just didn't want to get sidetracked on my comment. Not sure if I agree with MEMRI doing that though. If your organization's goal is to 'expose the truth', and release information, it's suspicious if you intentionally disable free speech on your own media.
Its important to understand that Man is the one who loved slavery and divorce and sexual immorality. Jesus Said "Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts" matthew 19:8. Don't blame God for what men would not give up. Jesus is Son of God and God, in closest relationship to the Father. Read what he taught in the Gospels. A slave (Onesimus) had wronged his master(Philemon) and ran away to Paul. Paul wrote Philemon a letter not only to forgive Onesimus and charge his wrongs to Paul, but to consider Onesimus not a slave but a brother. God is Holy, Righteous, Merciful, wonderful, caring, Loving but also the Judge. Its not God's will that anyone perish but that we all repent. God gives us all free will to surrender to him or claim he is evil and we are just, while we do and think evil every day. While we still have breath, we can repent and ask God to forgive our wickedness. Believe Jesus died for your sins on the cross in your place, he was buried 3 days, and resurrected on the 3rd day. He appeared to the 12 disciples and many others before ascending to Heaven. Surrender to Jesus and ask him into your heart and ask him to baptise you with his Holy Spirit. Dr. Patricia Green has great teachings about the Lord.
There is no doubt the ancient Isrealites were immoral by any sensible measure. But Christians don't believe Mosaic law applies to them. You could argue that makes the Bible contradictory, but that point doesn't really seem matter to them. The fact remains that the humble and passive Jesus was the polar opposite of a maniac warlord like Muhammad.
+Potter Suppositionalist - Whether christians follow the law today or not is irrelevant. The point is that their God at one point in history actually said these things and permitted them. Their _own God_ endorsed behavior that most of the world condemns today in ISIS. Oh, and the New Testament never says the Law was incorrect or a mistake, it just says believers no longer need to adhere to it because of Christ. The NT says the law was a "tutor" leading up to Christ.
Discern4 Yes, the text claims their God said and did some very bad things. That's a consistency problem to be sure, which I think most Christians try to resolve by doubting the reliability of ancient Israelite sources. I've heard apologists admit the OT is polemic, subversive and based on borrowed mythology. So it's unreliable propaganda at best and at worst a lie in it's entirety. This is a good point to make to try to deconvert someone. I'm just saying that while Christianity is an easy target for critique, Islam is a much more threatening ideology in terms of human dignity and liberty. I can't think of anything ISIS does that Muhammad wouldn't have approved wholeheartedly, but I can't say the same thing about that wimp Jesus. Christianity is passive and it submits to modern liberalism, Islam does not. Do you plan to do one on Islam?
@@PotterSuppositionalist Christians are just in denial and love to pick what suits their narrative and act like the rest is evil 😂 for Islam, it is more relaxed, they don't deny it but if you dig deeper, you'd realize ISLAM is way better than Christianity!
I agree with all of this, and I would like to use this opportunity invite you all to the truly beautiful religion of Mazdayasna (Zoroastrianism). For this is the original monotheistic religion, which the other monotheistic religions branched off of and ruined! It is a faith with a God that is actually good, Ahura Mazda, and a God with a truly beautiful message, that did, indeed, free countless slaves, as Ahura Mazda's great society (ancient Persia) ruled over half of humanity, and here, the chains of the slave were shattered, men and women were equal, all were allowed to worship however they pleased, and the lower classes were protected by the law- in ancient times, mind you, and all thanks to the message of Zarathustra. O Ahura Mazda! Thank you for this beautiful message that you have sent and this great society that you have forged!

I used google translate on the arabic text in the pamphlet, and I was satisfied that MEMRI had translated it correctly.

There can all kinds of reasons why someone (or a corporate group) would disable comments and ratings.
But Jesus Banned it totally.
