- The plaintiff rented an apartment from the defendant’s leasing management company. She claims she left the house in perfect condition, but the defendant won’t return the security deposit, so she’s suing. The defendant argues the plaintiff trashed the house and then disparaged them on social media. She doesn’t think she owes the plaintiff because they needed to use the security deposit to pay for damages.

She not only trashed the place, she sued for the deposit! Unbelievable.
I lived in a place and my cat ruined all the horizontal blinds. Because my roommate was sick (pneumonia and hospitalized), I did not have a chance to replace them but I for sure cleaned the place from top to bottom. When I did the walk through, the guy representing the company that rented to us said "He has never seen a place left so clean in his life."
When I was told that, I realize that most people are pigs and don't care.
@@JamieM470 but it doesnt cost 1800 to repair a large hole of that size and do some touch up painting throughout the place . the average cost for that would be around 500 total , i know because i am a painter and i have done alot of jobs like this .
My girlfriend used to have rentals. After 4 years of tennants destroying things and never cleaning she finally sold the homes.

Every year after winter I have to clean my walls or at least spray some bleach to kill the mold where furniture is from the walls sweating. It sucks but you do have to move furniture around even if you're not moving. Refrigerators, stoves and deep freezers bc trash get under there and can start smelling. Idk why people feel like they don't have to wash curtains etc once it's up. Just mind boggling.

I've lived with heavy smokers. Those gray/black grimy areas were not from smoke. Cigarette smoke kind of browns everything evenly lol. (the exception is drips down the walls in bathrooms because of the steam....yeah I begged for at least no smoking in the bathroom but no luck).
Scrub the walls with a flat mop and a bit of soapy water and the brown comes right off. Unless you let it build up for multiple years, then it's going to take a lot more work.
What the plaintiff left on the walls was nasty, dirty, greasy grime.

Like she said "Tenants don't fucking pressure wash". I've been in the place I rent for 8 years!!! No pressure washing needed buuuttt if it did at this point in time with me here or moved out. I'm not required to pressure wash walls or the driveway. The landlord will be doing that. I have a great landlord. We keep her place up even tho she lives in a different state than her property I rent.
Yeah but in this case, she was suggesting the tenant should have maybe pressure washed it!! (Either that or clean it the old fashion way with a bucket of hot, soapy water & one hell of a scrub brush!! lol!!!) cause dannng!!! That place was left nasty beyond normal usage!!!

I agree. I am moving and I have been washing down the walls. I had to do it since I was young so I’m used to it. But I don’t know how they can live like that because I like to wash the walls down at least once a year especially the areas that get more traffic. Not only that deposits are too high these days and I want my money back 😂

Too much dye and other hair products
The judge is wrong about using Kilz for only mold. I had a tenant that smoked even though the lease stated no smoking. Every wall, ceiling, light, door, carpet, tile, curtains, and all other fixtures were completely orange when she moved out. I had to physically wash everything in the house and still had to throw away a lot of stuff. I had to use Kilz stain blocker on every paintable surface prior to using the regular paint. Without it, the orange stains that were permanent and not able to be washed off bled through the paint. The Kilz also contains an odor block that was needed to stop the smoke smell from coming through the paint since no amount of washing gets rid of the smell that is trapped in the sheet rock. I have also used it to cover up crayon and magic marker writing on the walls. It works great for everything I've had to cover with primer before I could paint. I even use it as the first primer on newly installed sheet rock. I don't know how it works on mold, I've never had that problem. But I know it's the best product on the market for everything else.
The judge was correct in the amount of money that it would take to repair all the damages done by the planttiff and they definitely should have won. I'm glad they did. The planttiff has no idea how hard it is to clean, prime, and paint over hair color or products that stain the walls. None of the damages were normal wear and tear for only a 2 year tenancy.

In 2 years, that amount of dirt/grime accumulation is insane. It's clearly from where the couches(like the dark one in the photo) and bed pillows rubbed aginst the walls, yet the Plaintiff didn't move or clean the furniture. And, like the Plaintiff said, if an ac is leaking, she needed to call and not let the wall just rot. There is normal wear and tear and there is excessive filth.

The fact that she brought the pictures with the same nastiness and didn't see a problem shows who she is. They deserved to keep the deposit. She didn't attempt to clean the smut because she didn't even notice it 🙄

But the truth is they had a hurricane and no way it didn't effect little house, exterior... and probably interior.. the defendants had a responsibility to check the property after a natural disaster.
She comes from a family of contractors, but it's clearly been awhile since she last visited the paint aisle at a big box store - Kilz is now synonymous with primer, in general, not just specialty applications.
I mean did she have children living there??? How did a grown woman do that to those walls? And have the nerve to sue smh 🤦🏽♀️

"Social convention." My granddaughter in California rented an apartment with her boyfriend and didn't even try to claim the deposit when they moved out. Her mother told me it was "social convention" (not her exact words) there that the landlord gets to keep the deposit no matter what.

If they have money like that then good for them I guess... There's no way I'd forfeit my deposit for no reason. Either they have a lot of money and just don't care or they ruined the apartment and figured they wouldn't get it back anyway. It's not normal for people to just leave their deposit with the landlord though... I would call that "social convention" like it's just what people in California do 🤔
I've never heard of that, but that how I handle my business as a tenant. Keep the deposit. I consider it a tip for providing maintenance and for cleaning up whatever I leave behind. My current property manager (on and off for the last 10 years, 3 different places) has a bulletin board in the office and ads online of the furniture that gets left behind from other tenants.

I bought a rental house fixed it up nicely to be lived in. When the tenant moved out the walls were filthy they were dirty. They were grimy and were taking a lot to fix my wife and I realize it was the type of paint the previous home on the used which was cheap and the flat paint were dirt and grind will stick to it, with that said we did not charge the tenant to repaint the rooms

The judge was wrong on one thing - Kilz is absolutely used on stains and grime. I used to work in property management and saw many apartments where we had to use Kilz on yellowed walls from heavy smokers, and oil spots (exactly like the type in this case from not having a headboard). That being said, plaintiff is still nasty. Why would you go on national television and advertise your nastiness 🤦♀️

The plaintiff’s pictures sucked. Didn’t even show a complete room. The wall where she laid her head against was grossed. And how the hell did she get a hole in the wall that big. Just nasty.
She probably smokes and the walls are dusty . We wash our walls once every three months, we have a 6 person family and walls will get filthy if you just let them . Even the ceiling fans we have to dust over and over it’s amazing how much dirt collects up . She needed to just wash those walls down .
This is what happens when you trash someone else's property.
