OMG; You're my idol!! As a foreign student, I am considering applying to MPH, but I am disappointed by all the extra requirements we have for being foreigners.

I'm sorry they have to make this process more difficult!! Please let me know if there is any way I can help, I wouldn't want that to be the barrier to you applying! You can email me at officehourswithjess@gmail.com if you want to chat further!

Hey Jess! Can you make a video on interview weekend and what usually goes on during PhD interviews?

That is a great idea! I definitely will make a video for that coming up soon - as I know interviews can start as early as January! Any specific things you'd like me to highlight in this video? I already have a video on interview tips more generally: ua-cam.com/video/MdcqAMo97Fk/v-deo.html

How did you find so many schools that would allow you, as the student, to submit letters of recommendation? A lot of the applications I have gone through want them submitted by the recommender though a portal or email.
😅 I feel so nervous about the idea of having my recommenders receive tons of emails from schools about me.

Hi! So it is pretty standard for the person writing your letter of recommendation to submit directly to the school through a portal. I don’t actually think they will get additional emails beyond confirming that the school received their letter. If you have any additional questions about this or other topics, feel free to email me at officehourswithjess@gmail.com

@@OfficeHourswithJess If that is the process you went through then, how many letters did your professors write for you?? Or, did you pick a lot of different professors to write just one? Many schools require at least two....

@@findingagain So for MPH programs, there was one portal (SOPHAS) that housed the applications for almost 90% of the schools I applied to. So my recommenders only had to submit once to that portal, and then it went to all of the MPH programs that I applied for. It is okay to ask your professors to submit letters to multiple schools for you (that is pretty standard!)

how many years of experience is required for mph?

Most programs recommend at least 1 year or more of public health-related work or internship experience before applying for an MPH. But this does not have to be a "full time public health job" and can be sort of a collection of extracurricular experiences, internships, research, etc. There is no hard requirement, it's more about how you put it together to tell your public health story!

Which concentration are you in? Has your experience with grad school been worth it?
