    KARAGIM AY / MY DEAR
More than 25 years ago, the poet Shomishpay Sariev wrote the lyrics of the song “Karagym Ay”. He wanted to dedicate a song to his daughter, who was getting married. The father puts his feelings and thoughts into the lyrics: how will the life of his daughter and her chosen one turn out, what awaits her?
Talks with his daughter about the meaning of life. The poet points out, that the most important meaning of life is love. Life without love is empty. All the wealth accumulated over a lifetime is not worth even one day spent in love.
The poet askes his friend, the famous composer Kenes Duisekeev, to write the music for the lyrics. The composer writes the music for the song, recalls his only sister, who did not have time to get married, because she died at the age of 19.
Imagines what kind of feelings the father would have experienced if he married her to a man. Therefore, the song turned out not only about the poet’s daughter, who is getting married, but also about the composer's sister, who did not live up to her wedding. The song conveys sadness, the sadness of love which never had a chance to live. (Credits to Dimash Multicultural Club on Facebook)

Kenes Duisekeev the composer of this beautiful song is the man shown in the background. He was a teacher/mentor and grandfatherly friend of Dimash and died in July due to the virus. (Within one week a second teacher/mentor of Dimadh died too) Dimash is talking about him in his interview which is on Dimash‘s UA-cam channel. It’s a long interview over 40 minutes but worth watching it. In my opinion the best interview with Dimash.
Most of us are crying listening to this song. You feel and see the pain and grief in Dimash‘s voice and face expressions. He is pouring out all the restrained sadness.
He sings this song so beautifully... in part like a grieving human, and in part like an angel giving someone a sendoff to heaven.
You said you’re interested in the lyrics/the stories pls check out the channel of Dimash Fanclub Deutschland. ua-cam.com/channels/1OdTPmqEL_GWjxa1t4Gl-w.html You will find many songs, all with captions in several languages and partly with the background story of the song added to the video. They do an amazing job.
No Igor there, Igor only plays the piano when he has composed the song. This performance was for Qazaqstanconcert the 60th anniversary.
You know i really like your reactions but without offending you, I want to say it’s so much distracting to see your background shining through the video that you are watching and the music in the background while you are talking is a bit too loud and makes it really difficult almost impossible to understand what you are saying. That’s a pitty. Anyway thank you for your heartfelt reaction . Since the beginning I still enjoy your journey with Dimash. Stay safe dear. 🤗

Igor Krutoy accompanies Dimash only if Dimash performs a song written by Igor Krutoy. Dimash performed several songs by Igor Krutoy, but his repertoire is not limited to the songs of Igor Krutoy. This song was written many years ago by one of Dimash's mentors, who died this summer from covid. You can see his photo in the background.

You will find he never performs a song the same twice, some songs such a Know, he performs with words, then another performance will be without words, a Vocalise. So don't discount his performances of songs you have reacted to already. Dimash has a huge repertoire so keep searching.

Surely someone explained earlier. However, this is a tribute to his professor of composition who died last year of COVID19. The pianist was also his student. This is a labor of love!

Here is what I found: The word “Karagym” directly means “Apple of my eye” and it’s used when somebody is very valuable, very important for you and much protected. This word is used by parents for their children. NOT used for when you fall in love with someone. This is a father’s song for his daughter before her wedding by thought (realization) of the author(the son). In fact, the wedding didn’t happen because author’s father and author’s sister, at her age of 19, died in the same year in 1951. At that time, the author(son) was 5 years old. There is no translation of this word in English. We can use as “My treasured (daughter)”. Another word in the poem(song), "deer" is a beautiful animal with a beautifull eyes, it is used to picture a beauty of nature. It's a visual symbol of a fathers love for their daughters.
This was the basis for the poem by the author. He asked Dimash's long time teacher to compose the music to which the poem could be placed. Dimash's teacher, who was very close to Dimash, also had a sister die before she could marry. The love, pain and longing that can be felt from the song was taken from the lives of the two authors. Dimash performed this exquisite mournful rendition as a tribute to his teacher (the composer of the music), originally for his 70th birthday and now, with this performance, at Kazakhstans 60th anniversary event , after his teacher died during the first wave of Covid19. Here is the closest english translation I can find:
    My treasured (daughter)
You make me realize what beauty is
Without dreaming someone (daughter) can have it all
People (we are all) just guests in this world (life)
It is really, our lives are indeed too short
    My treasured (daughter)
The deers move (graze) like this
Who will be there for you along the way?
Why does my soul weep? (why my eyes filling with tears?)
Who are you destined to be with?
    My treasured (daughter)
You looked (at me) courteously, tender
What a beautiful is your shining look (eye)
    My treasured (daughter)
    As this life passes by
Without love, it is all in vain
All the pages of one’s life
Are worthless compared with one day when you loved
    My treasured (daughter)
You looked (at me) courteously, tender
What a beautiful is your shining look (eye)
    My treasured (daughter)
You looked (at me) courteously, tender
What a beautiful is your shining look (eye)
What a beautiful is your shining look (eye)

Why would Igir be in this? Its nothing to do with him, its a Kazach song, Dimash is Kazach. So not a new song but a new arrangement of Qaragym-ai, (apple of my eye) you need to know the reason why he did this for the 60th Anniversary KazakhConcert. His University Professor (Dimash is still a student (Phd)) Kenes Duysekeev died from covid-19 in the first wave in Kazakhstan and Dimash was very close to him, very fond of him, so it hit him very hard. He wanted to do this as a tribute to him and to rearrange the song to show the respect Dimash had for this very talented teacher, composer, poet and very nice man. Kenes composed this song 20 years ago about the apple of his eye, his sister who passed away, the poet wrote the words about his daughter, also the apple of his eye, that went away to be married and he had to say goodbye to her, so a terribly sad song, and when Dimash first asked if he could perform this song when he was around 18/19 Kenes doubted that at such a young age Dimash would be able to put across the meaning and intense emotions in this song, so he asked Dimash to sing it for him beforehand. When he heard and saw how Dimash could absolutely put across the deep meanings and emotions he was very happy to give him the song to perform. This newly arranged performance is in my opinion a triumph, Dimash's perfect vocals are heartbreakingly beautiful and just having a piano, perfect ❤
Interview with Karagym-Ay song composer, Kenes Duisenkeev
In 2016, my 70th anniversary was celebrated right here in Astana. It was decided that it would take place in the concert hall Kazakhstan.
Then Dimash Kudaibergen came to me and said, "Kenes aga," how do you look at it when I performe the song Karagym-Ay?! In fact, I already invited another singer to perform this song. But I didn't want to disappoint the boy. I thought he was a talented boy who had just gotten to his feet, so I didn't say no, but said, prepare yourself for the performance. In two days, a rehearsal will take place in the concert hall Kazakhstan, on the day of the concert day, you will come and i will hear your performance.
Dimash finished performing, I didn't notice when I got up and called Dimash. Come here dear, come here and I hugged him.
I hugged him and said, God gave you not only a voice but also a heart and, most importantly, wisdom. I didn't think a young boy who wasn't even 20 could understand the philosophical depth of this song. In fact, he realized all my thoughts on this song.
