The tips: 1. Decluter 2. Re-use a. Refurbish furniture; b. Everyday stuff; c. Things from Thrift stores. 3. Only buy what you need or what you really can't get of your head. 4. Make lists. 5. Do as you go. 6. Design your living space. 7. Learn to say yes and no. Thank you for reading :)) 💕
I utilize all of these suggestions and they have improved my life immensely. Instead of the 1-minute rule, I have a ten minutes to organization and cleaning. Clean for 10 minutes, sit for 10 minutes doing something fun like reading or watching a show. I use a timer so I don't cheat. ~Smile!
I always ask myself what would I grab if there was a fire? What would I take if I would move abroad? And suprising enought - it's very little amount of possesions.
To be extremely compact dapper like me, i store all my belongings in 1 minimalistic bedside cabinet ( -the stiff gadgets and wires get stuck- all fits in there) and if there is a fire in case, ill just carry my bedside cabinet and -calmly exit the building- RUN THE FUCK AWAY (with the lampshade toppling over the cabinet)
Good advice I heard was to ask yourself, if I was moving, would I take this? Would I want to pack it? Because usually when people move, they try to take less so it’s easier. When moving most people declutter a lot. 😊
Since decluttering cleaning has become so much easier and quicker. It took some will power in the beginning and I did get emotional, but you get used to it and learn to love it.
One of my best simplicity/minimalism hacks is to reset to +1. We've probably all heard of resetting to zero, where you return the counter to clean and tidy or pick up the living room coffee table before bed so that it's not a mess you wake up to first thing. But I've found that it's just as easy to reset to better than neutral! Setting out your clothes the night before is a pretty traditional way to do it, so is setting up the coffee pot or kettle the night before. But it's also pretty easy to load the dishwasher, or clothes washer, Or take 5 minutes to start tomorrow's to do list with the few things you didn't get to complete today, so that when you compile your to do list the next day, those things are already at the top of the list.
I couldn't agree more with you, Meghan! In June I struggled with money (only had £60 in my bank account lol) so I was forced to live in a milimalistic way. And even though now I'm doing really good with savings, I'm still living minimal because it feals great! One in a while I do a check in my room and take all the things that I don't need/wear/use to a charity shop. At the moment I think I only have 6-7 tops, 2 pair of jeans, 2 pair of shoes, basic makeup, I got rid of all the home decor that doesn't make my space a better place and yeah, I feel really free :) thanks for the video!
I am barely there but really starting the thought process on where and how to begin. I want this simplicity in my life! I'm 52 yrs. old and have accumulated alot over the years as you can imagine. Many of the things I have are of family origin and are important to me, however, I have just realized that the bulk of these items are tchotchkes that I could simplifiy by putting up a couple of floating shelves to store the ones I still like to look at, while freeing up much of the counter space they are taking up. I also think that this weekend, I'm going to get rid of my headboard and dresser in the bedroom. I want a clean, open and airy space with light billowy sheers. You have motivated me with your nice and simple background! Oh and kitty! My goodness what an adorable sweetie pie! I have 2 rescued cats and 2 large rescued dogs as well. If I don't get my house lightened up, I will forever be on my hands and knees trying to get the pet hair out of corners! Thanks so much for your video from 3 yrs. ago. It brightened my day so much! You are a smart young woman! Life wasn't filled with technology when I was growing up and no pinterest or UA-cam. I've come to appreciate UA-cam so much because of videos like yours. I hope this comment finds you well, healthy and happy!
Hi Meghan, i'm just in the process of researching minimalism & simplifying my life to hopefully reduce stress. I found this video really helpful & have subscribed. I hope you do more videos on this subject but for now i will take a look at your back catalogue. Best wishes from England. Donna x
The fact that you stopped and enjoyed your cat playing behind you, and left it in the video for us to enjoy, shows that you are "walking the walk" with what you are talking about in this video, hence I'm a new subscriber! Thanks!
Loved the video. I've been in Gods Word a lot and lately it has inspired me to declutter and reexamine what's truly important in my life. Having things just to have things is not one of them anymore. :) God bless!
The one minute rule was the best tip in your video! A good tip of mine is to paint walls and ceilings, once a year, to maintain a fresh image and repair.
This is great, thank you so much! I've heard of the two-minute rule, but they mean the same thing either way :) I've also heard about how you can hang your hangers differently to identify which clothes you think you wear but actually don't. At the start of the year, hang the hangers backwards. Once the clothes have been worn and it's time to hang them up after the laundry, hang it the normal way. At the end of the year, donate those clothes on hangers facing the opposite way!
hi. The hanger idea is fantastic. having hangers the 'wrong way' usually irritates me so much but with a purpose like you've suggested, it really makes sense! thanks :-)
I need to simplify my life. Thank you for all the tips! I would also like to say that being greatful for what you have and being contented is really important. It makes life more simple and happier not to covet what others have.
I've been a low-key hoarder most of my life and have just recently started to declutter my life. Although I'm only in the early stages and I can't believe how AMAZING it feels!! Definitely going to save this video to come back to :) by the way you're really beautiful - and your cat is waay too cute!!
I enjoyed listening to your thoughts! so here is my contribution: I make my lists on scrap paper and once all chores are taken care of I trash them in a bin which I clear out once a month - and those to do lists will then be used for bonfires we light when hanging out with friends. Bonfires are such a cool way to get together. Its such a relieving feeling to see all your past duties form a first flame that will feed a fire which keeps everybody warm! I criticize in our century that so many people dump objects, materials of all kind, even if they are still intact, way too fast. So I love that you mention the thrift stores, and that you have included ways of re-using your furniture or any other object and give them new purposes this way. I craft a lot for my job. I collect items to craft with in a neat box and once I see whats in the box I immediately come up with ideas once I start a new project. I would love to see a refurbishing video of yours in case you have not done one. Since I have only found out about you today I´ll go check in your channel. Your video popped up as a suggestion. I have subscribed. Its nice to meet you!
Your bonfire tip is awesome!! And I'd definitely like to make a video sometime on refurbishing furniture. Thanks for being here, it's nice to meet you too!
Hello, Lady Meghan, thanks for your sharing with us! I'm in declutter of my house wholly, And little get tired of doing it now, but I restore my power by your video. Let's make clean to tidy up again. I'll keep up my agenda , by your ways, I can imagine I have clean room and house! Thank you!!

Meghan, Very nice video. You are right about the "compulsive shopping". I like the way you made it so genuine, simple and, seeing the kitten having fun on your bed. Thank you. God Bless.
Honey you make me think there is hope for the world. At your very young age your thought processes are admirable. One rule I follow is if I really want something then one thing at home HAS to go...if not just forget it
a lot of people don’t like simplicity because then they don’t know what to do with the rest of their day but this video is only for simple people or people wanting to become simple instead odd the fast life and all the book readers this is god for y’all and spiritual people this is a great video how to use your time wisely
I love your flow of thoughts, your music, your cat and your voice and the way you say things. And I like the fact that unlike other minimalists, you are not tight and rigid freak. I am now one of your fans/subscribers! Awesome!😍
I feel like my planner system really helps me focus on what is important. At the end of each day, I really review the tasks that I did not complete and decide whether to delete the task, schedule the task for the future, or just migrate the task to the next day. It really helps to keep a perspective on those things that are really important and those things that are just not going to happen because of other priorities.
Hey Meghan, loved your tips! I think I'm also at a point where, like you said, simplification is becoming an enormous component of my life. I'm especially surrounded by technology and I've found that decluttering my devices has been very helpful as well. For example, I try to have only apps that I absolutely need or love and I keep my home screen having only two rows (which looks aesthetically minimal and mentally peaceful in a way).
Leaving my cats behind would be 'wasteful' haha... that would be unproductive. Minimalism looks different for everyone. My cats are my babies and they add joy and love to my life... and they are simple to take care of. Thats what is all about... I love my babies.
Wow! That's crazy, I could never do that either. To me minimalism is based around possession of materialistic items, not pets, which I consider family :) I never knew people leave their pets behind
great tips. me and hubby have recently started to attempt to simplify our home, since our son arrived we just feel we have too much stuff but it is sometimes so hard to part with stuff so we are just taking it one collection/area at a time and curating what we own. we will never be minimalists but we want to curate and organise our home better so we are selling all our dvds, have charity shopped all old books and ones we feel we will never read and gotten rid of a large amount of cds we feel we won't listen too again as not our taste. I've also blitzed my kitchen of excess items and half my jewellery collection is done. still lots to do but it's a work in progress and I feel it will impact what we chose to buy and bring into our house from now on even more
One step at a time is the best way to do it! That's great you've been able to simplify your space more and more, it's such a great feeling -- definitely don't need to be a full-blown minimalist to enjoy the benefits of reducing clutter :) xoxoxo
What great ideas. It's so easy to lose sight of what truly matters in life if we accumulate so much stuff. I am in the process of dejunking and taking to thrift stores all my dvds, cds and clothes etc. I just want to live as simply as possible so that my focus is clearer on the things that are more important in life.
i agree with what you said to take a step back and decide if you actually need it because that has happened to me and i’m getting better and it helps you make better choices and not be impulsive decisions and also just in general to apply that concept in your life in every area
I was able to listen to the super video because my cat does exactly the same on my bed and is so incredibly nosy when it comes to things about the home. I wonder if our breeds are similar?
as so many people have already said, your absolutely adorable kitty just stole the show! i had to replay those parts of your video a couple times, so i could finally pay attention to your message during that part of the video, lol! but you have awesome tips. very obvious tips, but the kind of info that is great to hear & go back and review, periodically, to keep the minimalism-related routines & etc.
Excellent tips. I wish my wife would embrace these ideas. 😕 You posses a great deal of knowledge and wisdom for such a young woman. I am fascinated with minimalism. As a single guy in the 70's, I lived a frugal, minimal lifestyle without even being aware of it until my friends started picking on me. I really never thought about it as I had what I needed and no more. Now minimalism is a thing. I guess I was ahead of my time! Your kitten is adorable! 😸
Thanks very much! I think the concept of minimalism is really great considering the busy world we live in. I'm glad to here you enjoyed these tips and that you're just as interested in it too! Have a lovely day :)
your tips are great! Loved it. I have recently begun the journey of de-cluttering and living more simply. My tip would be to start in one room at a time and set a goal. E.g. 1 week to get the kitchen de-cluttered and organised.
That's a really really good suggestion. Love that! Helps us to not be too overwhelmed by the thought of needing to organize a bunch of different rooms! xx
Hey Meghan. I am on the road to minimalism. I've done 2 huge "Spring" Cleanings this year and I feel great. HOWEVER, I have 2 huge boxes that I cannot downsize much of because i feel guilty. Can you do a video on how to get rid of sentimental items.
I get to be a minimalist for several weeks a year, when I go on a motorcycle trip. Literally everything I need fits inside a couple of saddlebags and it's so freeing to only have a few things to keep track of. Then I come home and am super happy to once again have a huge wardrobe to choose from!
I feel sad sorta without my father's and mother's paintings on the walls, my family heirlooms not on view....my many books not visible to cheer me....etc.
Did you read Marie Kondo's book? It is not about minimalism but it emphasizes that as long as the things we own spark joy for us we should keep them ;) It is a great method for decluttering and at the same time valuing your things even more.. ;)
I love these tips. I'm going to add a couple of these things into the new year since I will be moving in June. I will be doing some of these things before I move, so that I don't have to worry about having to do all of it while I unpack
It seems your room looks so nice simple and clean. Your cat is adorable. I was wondering if you would give an apartment tour of how you actually have your apt as a minimalist?
Your kitty is just too cute! ❤️. I definitely have way too much junk and need to minimize so bad. It’s easy to accumulate junk and not even realize it until it’s falling out on your head when you open the closet. Lol. So happy I recently found your channel.
Meghan Livingstone I see parents buy a ton of clothes for one child, and I'm a single parent with two girls. Is it strange I only have 7 outfits for them? I do rotate the pants and shirts, so I'm careful of buying clothes that aren't the same colour. I only buy them shoes/boots as needed.
BellRain Chan Good thinking. Very few of us even consider clothing. I decided not to by any more clothes 2 years ago and I still have a cupboard full of unworn clothes. I don't really follow fashion so none of it will look odd when I wear it. I was shocked recently about the cost of 'fast clothing' especially in regard to exploited, poorly paid workers in the sweat shops. And that only 10% of clothes sent to charity shops are bought. The rest is bagged up and resold in other countries. I just think, colour me and match, the season change, and when possible, good quality classic clothes....on sale.
I found very wise and useful tips here, I've been doing some similar things as you like doing things immediately without delay, write lists and make them done, isolate myself for a while to find balance in life again, now I wanna try saying no more and get rid of unnecessary things. I thought something was wrong with me before when all of the people around want more and I just want less and feel happier living like this. Now I know it's called minimalism and I'm not the only one. Thanks for the awesome video, I can learn and reflect a lot, wish all the best to you
Kitty was cracking me up lol. One thing that I find helpful is 1 in 1 out. If I buy a new shirt, I get rid of an older shirt. I purge every season my cds, dvds, digital files, things like that so I don't have tons of stuff. Having too much has bought me so much anxiety. Much happier with basic simple things.
I am exactly the same way! I like simple and have minimized things as much as possible! People probably think it's weird but hey I will declutter them too!
I love the concept of minimalism in a consumer culture but in my opinion you don't really need anything (material wise) at all. I would have 5 outfits, a camera, and a Bible LOL So what is the real depth of minimalism is it possible? or is it something to drive us to want less Either way I think I like it
Great Vlog!! I am just starting the Minimal living... however we did purge (donate) A LOT of stuff when we moved from a 2,500 sq. ft. house to a 900 sq. ft. apartment. It felt great to get rid of things we really didn't need (our stuff had been in storage for 5 years prior as we moved in with my husbands father). I want to go through our stuff again to purge even more. It's amazing to me how things we own add to the anxiety & clutter in our minds. Thank you for sharing what you've learned & what works for you so that other may also benefit! :) PS: Your cat was cracking me up!! So sweet and funny.
one point on what you said as far as reusing and refurbishing things and accepting things other people are getting rid of and thrifting.... STILL don't accept things unless you plan to refurbish it THAT weekend and still get rid of one thing if you take it in... the idea of collecting little bits and pieces for crafts turns a lot of people into hoarders.
Hi Meghan! First time I watch your videos and I just loved it! I live in a country with little resources so to speak so your ideas are very helpful. Thanks a lot and keep doing what you do!
Thank you, this video really helped me today! I have so much organizing to do, so much work for my practicum, and I feel like no matter how much I try everything around me is still chaos, You are sweet and I really enjoyed this video,
you are a beautiful young lady and lucky to see the big picture on the negative impacts of clutter this young! ! watched 3 times....haha I have 7 cats so enjoyed yours acting so "cat'ish" lol ... I sent link to my 23yo daughter and 24yo son who desperately need to employ ANY of your tIps! I love 'if it can be done in under a minute...." ... my adult children are still stuck in LATER MODE. My 3rd watch was with my daughter who showed up when I was finishing round 2...thank you!
CAT!!!! I have to say, while re-using and refurbishing speaks to my soul, thrifting and crafting has contributed Big Time to the clutter in my life...For me, thrift stores are a no-no when trying to cut back
Very informative video, i really liked it, i've read all of those ideas somewhere else, but it was great to have all them in one video, i'm thankful for you!
The tips:
1. Decluter
2. Re-use
a. Refurbish furniture;
b. Everyday stuff;
c. Things from Thrift stores.
3. Only buy what you need or what you really can't get of your head.
4. Make lists.
5. Do as you go.
6. Design your living space.
7. Learn to say yes and no.

Hey Meghan, loved your tips! I think I'm also at a point where, like you said, simplification is becoming an enormous component of my life.
I think anybody who says "If you want to be a TRUE minimalist you HAVE TO XYZ" hasn't understood the concept of minimalism.
+Lotte Lange: haha yes :D
great tips. me and hubby have recently started to attempt to simplify our home, since our son arrived we just feel we have too much stuff but it is sometimes so hard to part with stuff so we are just taking it one collection/area at a time and curating what we own. we will never be minimalists but we want to curate and organise our home better so we are selling all our dvds, have charity shopped all old books and ones we feel we will never read and gotten rid of a large amount of cds we feel we won't listen too again as not our taste.
Came across your channel by accident, love it!
Hello Zhanna ☺
I love how this video is charged with a serene energy. It was a pleasure to watch.
Thank you.
+Misha Kumpan So happy you enjoyed it!! Thank you :-)
i was CRACKING UP at your cat. so cute.
So many great tips, and you seem like such a lovely person :D Glad that I've discovered your channel!
Glad you're here!!! Xoxo
i agree with what you said to take a step back and decide if you actually need it because that has happened to me and i’m getting better and it helps you make better choices and not be impulsive decisions and also just in general to apply that concept in your life in every area
Does anyone really listened carefully or just watch the cat? :D
lol ikr! the kitty was rolling around everywhere
Both! Loved it all!
I watched the cat
I was able to listen to the super video because my cat does exactly the same on my bed and is so incredibly nosy when it comes to things about the home.
I wonder if our breeds are similar?
Error666 someone can watch the cat and listen at the same time.
as so many people have already said, your absolutely adorable kitty just stole the show! i had to replay those parts of your video a couple times, so i could finally pay attention to your message during that part of the video, lol! but you have awesome tips. very obvious tips, but the kind of info that is great to hear & go back and review, periodically, to keep the minimalism-related routines & etc.
Haha he was hilarious during the filming of this video. I'm happy you enjoyed it, pretty basic tips for sure, but useful nonetheless!! :)
I love your kitten!
Don't you love happy cats? They're so good for you. They remind you of the little things in life and priorities. Your kitten is adorable!
Happy cats are the best cats!! xoxo
your tips are great! Loved it.
I have recently begun the journey of de-cluttering and living more simply. My tip would be to start in one room at a time and set a goal. E.g. 1 week to get the kitchen de-cluttered and organised.
That's a really really good suggestion. Love that! Helps us to not be too overwhelmed by the thought of needing to organize a bunch of different rooms! xx
Yes I agree. I also have begun doing 10 minutes a day on the rooms that seem to big to do all at once. It helps ease the load.
Happy kitty happy life! Lol! The kitty is too cute! 👏🏾
Thank you for this video. It brought to me a sense of calmness and clarity when I needed it the most.
I can't stop looking at your cat! SHES SO CUTE OMG!
An great video with great tipps! have been trying to live minimalistic for a while now :)
oh I love your tips Meghan and I'll try to do it. Thank you. Anyway I love your bedroom. It looks clean, simple, and comfortable
LOL--- I LOVE kitties, and yours had me cracking up! What a bonus to your informative video! 😀👍
Hey Meghan. I am on the road to minimalism. I've done 2 huge "Spring" Cleanings this year and I feel great. HOWEVER, I have 2 huge boxes that I cannot downsize much of because i feel guilty. Can you do a video on how to get rid of sentimental items.
What I USE, what I NEED and what I LOVE are hundreds of things........there is no way I could be a minimalist.
Lynn Maust I know...the idea of minimalism is really appealing to me, but I've discovered I like stuff more.
Love your tips :) thanks for this!! Also your kitty is the absolute sweetest!
+Zoey Arielle Hehe he's lots of fun!
It seems your room looks so nice simple and clean. Your cat is adorable. I was wondering if you would give an apartment tour of how you actually have your apt as a minimalist?
Your kitten is so cute. I want one of my own, but Im still living with my parents who dislike cats
Your kitty is just too cute! ❤️. I definitely have way too much junk and need to minimize so bad. It’s easy to accumulate junk and not even realize it until it’s falling out on your head when you open the closet. Lol. So happy I recently found your channel.
YOUR CAT! Oh my goodness. So funny. And love these ideas :)
+Meg I laughed so hard filming this because of the way he was jumping around haha
Meg I try to explain this to my partner but no luck yet! I'm glad you see the light!
Thanks for the awesome video, I can learn and reflect a lot, wish all the best to you
Good for you! Simplifying our lives can really make a big difference, and saying no sometimes too! It's important to find balance. :)
I needed this. My life is so complicated :( Too busy.
I liked a lot of your tips. specially the one about keeping a notebook handy to keep your ideas organized. Your cat is absolutely adorable!!
one point on what you said as far as reusing and refurbishing things and accepting things other people are getting rid of and thrifting.... STILL don't accept things unless you plan to refurbish it THAT weekend and still get rid of one thing if you take it in...
the idea of collecting little bits and pieces for crafts turns a lot of people into hoarders.
+Kat B Good point!
Do as you go is definitely my favorite tips. Thank you 😗
your kitten is the funniest kitten I have ever saw on internet. :)
Hi Meghan! First time I watch your videos and I just loved it! I live in a country with little resources so to speak so your ideas are very helpful. Thanks a lot and keep doing what you do!
15 or 30 min of cleaning every day helps a lot
Absolutely! Makes such a difference keeping things tidy. :)
You mean for the whole house or in every single room
I need you to be my best friend. Lol. Having positive people surrounding you with the same goals is really inspiring to me!!
It makes such a difference doesn't it?! xoxo
I miss having a kitten. but my cat is 12 years old and has really slowed down in his older age. I wouldn't trade it for the world. :-)
Thank you, this video really helped me today! I have so much organizing to do, so much work for my practicum, and I feel like no matter how much I try everything around me is still chaos, You are sweet and I really enjoyed this video,
I'm so glad this video has helped!! One step at a time :D
Love you cat 😻, super cute. Thank you for the video.
Great video! I need to try to do more organization hacks at my job place.
keep the kitty, he's cute! :))
I love the quilt on your bed....and your adorable kitten. I enjoyed your video as well. Sound advice for us all.
OMG your kitteh is just adorable!! ♥
Hehehe
you are a beautiful young lady and lucky to see the big picture on the negative impacts of clutter this young! ! watched 3 times....haha I have 7 cats so enjoyed yours acting so "cat'ish" lol ...
Haha aw this is great to hear! So glad you enjoyed the video so much! xoxo
The cat... haha, soo fun!
CAT!!!! I have to say, while re-using and refurbishing speaks to my soul, thrifting and crafting has contributed Big Time to the clutter in my life...For me, thrift stores are a no-no when trying to cut back
So helpful, thank you 🙏🏽 That cutiepatootie kitten needs a channel too!!! 😻
Goid video...and Congratulations!
Myself....I'm working right now for this very reason...I LOVE SEEING THE BOXES AND BAGS GOING OUT THE DOOR!
As much as I enjoyed the excellent points you made, I think you know you got upstaged by your beautiful, precious cat!
Very informative video, i really liked it, i've read all of those ideas somewhere else, but it was great to have all them in one video, i'm thankful for you!
Omg! Your cat is hilarious 😂😂😂 great tips too btw!
I love this video! I’m trying to live a minimalistic lifestyle & sharing my journey on my UA-cam channel. Your videos help so much!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas. Your cat is the cutest!! Made my day!!!
I am in Love with your bedspread! Did you make it yourself? I would love the pattern. So perfectly Simple!
