Can Alex Pereira Really Save UFC 301?

- What a weekend for Alex Pereira! After his huge KO victory over former champion Jamahal Hill, Alex Pereira has set his sites on UFC 301. But is the turn around possible and would it be too risky for the UFC to serve up their new star to a dangerous short notice title defence?

Sorry for the sound at 07:30 - Let's pretend Bayliun said something we all disagreed with
see...here's the thing you guys
Let's also pretend Pereira didn't break his toes before and after 300.
We always do!
What happened to camposa’s corner 😢? Will it come back at any point?
I've got to disagree with bayliun, the flower print shorts with the teal trim are not as manly as the pink ones with the paw prints on the cheeks.
No way he will be medically cleared to fight in 3 weeks
He mopped Jahamal so bad all Pereira needed was to ice his hand. He took no damage.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamerhe has broken toes dude....

Two. He broke the toe next the original broken toe, mid fight.

@@devinburkett9036 it’s Ankalaev brotha lol
How long does that take to heal ?
@@devinburkett9036nah I really like Ankalaev. I could see him beating Alex he has nice standup (& hopefully after seeing what happened to jamahl he’d never think again to say “I’ll stand up with Alex and do no wrestling ”) and I could see him mixing it up to get a win or finish. Alex continues to just kill
Even if Pereira was cleared to fight so soon, why is no one talking about the fact that someone would need to take a fight against Alex Periera on 3 weeks notice.
The only logical thing would give either Anthony Smith or Vitor Petrino the fight. Neither deserve that title shot though but they are fighting each other on that card so they would be "ready". Also both are LHW...
@@traviss9059 yeah exactly. Or if it’s like a low stakes heavyweight fight with like Tuivasa like they said. But Ankalaev and Aspinall are absolutely not taking that fight on 3 weeks notice and I don’t blame them.
@@traviss9059I can actually see the lionheart fight happening if he wasnt coming off a loss. I really like Lionheart, but he has been talking some harse trash talk about Alex, saying he isnt big for 205, that 205's can take his shots and throw back heavier than Alex is used to, and that Alex is basic. Tom couldn't even register half of what Alex hit on the punch cube. Alex broke Francis record FFS. People need to stop doubting Alex. He's getting better every fight and the last Light Heavyweight to successfully defend the belt as a dominant champ was Bones... I think Alex is the future of LHW/HW UFC and will be dominant in any division higher than Middleweight. He KILLED himself making weight JUST to fight Izzy. Alex walks around right now at 235...
@@Toxik_DubzPoatan will destroy *Uncle* *Eyeav* n my then Bones would finished Stipe. If Bones Doesn't retire then he'd finish Tom then retire then Poatan moved to HW and gets his 3rd belt
Pereira is a UFC champion headhunter by now, it's crazy, 5 champions, like champions in their prime. Bananas.
And yet a certain somebody’s bitter and girly fan girls will try to tell you he fought injured or easy opponents like we can’t just disprove that quickly and ironically enough the dog diddler is kinda known to try to get his fights booked before the contender is actually healed up again real pussy shit done it many times than call out ddp for wanting a fair fight
Love Poatan, but HW is a different story altogether. If Izzy could KO him, Aspinall and Pavlovich would sleep him with ease. Ankalaev is already a huge problem for him even at LHW.
If Alex can beat Tom..
Then the next fight would be Alex vs Jon Jones
And that would quite possibly be the biggest fight of all time.
That would be so sick

Still waiting on the cardboard cutout of Tommy in the background.
"he haven't seen anyone with Grappler credentials take him down" he literally debuted against a Grappler. He K.Oed him with a flying knee.
"Jan was the last person to take him down" also wrong. Jiri tried to finish him on the ground and came up short. Pereira was not only able to defend against sub but also G&P. Jiri was only able to land ONE elbow and Jiri was also the one that ended up being caught on a sub. attempt.
Every fighters but Strickland and Hill grappled with him. Strickland and Hill never had the chance to try due to them being finished so fast.
Do I think that Pereira is a whiz on the ground? Hell no. But he isn't as hopeless as people seem to think he is.
People seems to think of him like they did with Connor, but I think he will prove them very wrong like he did to everyone saying Hill was a better striker lmao
Izzy showed us that you don't need lights out Grappling if you've mastered distance control and Alex is much more dangerous on the feet as well.
@@alexshtyn6336 true. But Pereira fights in medium to short range. He isn't the kind of guy that likes to relay on his reach advantage. That's why he adapted his stance. Normally people with his height find it easier to become a counter striker.
Glover seems to be focusing on defensive BJJ and getting back up as part of his trainings. It would be good for Alex to add a Wrestling coach to invest on his Defensive Wrestling. It's better to prevent a TD instead of having to get back up.
Glover is great but he's a Grappler not a Wrestler.
He never had to worry too much about defending TDs because he had the credentials to defend the subs. And it seems to me that that it's having an effect on how he's training Pereira. Does that make sense?
@jayn6943 yea, it does, but the only times Alex got taken down were in a striking exchange. I think he's hard to take in a vacuum and a wrestler engaging him in striking to get into range sounds like a risky proposition.
@@alexshtyn6336 there's also that. He did K.O the only wrestler he faced in UFC
I think people forgot already about Anthony Johnson.... fought at 170 all the way up to heavyweight. Dude was a beast!
True but Rumble was also have dead at 170 and missed weight multiple times down there.
Rip..wish we could have seen his punch power and..more of him
Dude made DC fly off the ground with a single punch 😂
Rumble was the man. The PEDs messed his heart up and took him out too early. RIP...
How about a few more defenses before switching weight classes.
I agree. I believe he can go up and will be successful at HW but I would prefer him to defend the LHW belt a few more times first and let the HW landscape settle out. Such a clusterf&÷k right now.
He should wait untill HW has an undisputed champ and get a title defense in the meantime
@anakinskywalkerscat7061 at least... a dominant run as Champ in LHW would be great IMO.
I think Alex could still make 205 relatively easily if he went to heavyweight because he just wouldn’t cut weight at heavyweight and fight at like 235 or 240.

Can Luke admit he was stupid for saying Hill was any sort of chance of kickboxing with Poatan
I don't think its a stupid opinion at all - In hindsight Pereira very much puts my opinion to bed. Was very cool to see Pereira go show up and show out!
@@CoolToMe_ of course it was a stupid opinion. A 2x glory kickboxing champion was not being beaten in a kickboxing fight by Jamahal Hill lol.

I agree, this whole behaviour of abandoning divisions without clearing them out has become mainstream and unreasonable.
@@bcab7955 I thought the reason why he abandoned middleweight was because of his weight, cut issues, and going up to light heavyweight would be easier for him

Excellent video review
Reminds me of Mcgregor double champ run having Chad Mendez as his only real grappler oponent before Khabib. If it wasn't short notice, his legacy and UFC would have been different.
"defending the interim belt that's such a weird concept"
barao did it 4 times lol.
Then got dumpstered by a mid-tier cheater, Dillashaw.
Alex vs any heavyweight AND THEN Alex vs Tom in Manchester
We should enjoy Alex while he is here. Not a long time left for the man, and he knows it which is why he is trying to chase that legacy.
Give this dude whatever fight he wants
alex also has much better defence on the ground then what he is credited. sure he stays there but he also avoids dammage and chokes.
The UFC should sell the shorts and give the fighters a cut like jersey sales.
They do sell the shorts..they are like 110$ or so
Give him Rozenstruik for his HW debut. *Certified Banger*
I feel like this is turning into what the True Geordie Podcast is for Football - for UFC specific content.
Isn't possible but i would be interested to see how Alex vs prime big country would go
The logical conclusion to the Pereira hype train is that he fights Aspinal wins then fights Jones for the unified title loses but Jones fails the doping test and is awarded the title then they both retire leaving a vacant tile which Stipe wins and is champ at 48 years old lol.
If Pereira fights at 301, obviously he fights whoever's available. But putting that aside, I'd rather he defend against Ankalaev first then go up to challenge Tom Aspinall (and I don't want either of those to be short-notice fights). It's the more deserving and important fight and, win or lose, Pereira can move to heavyweight after. If he never fights Ankalaev, the "favourable matchups" narrative will be a permanent asterisk next to his title reign.
Alex can save the ufc in general. Lets not get him injured or take an L to save a shit card that will come and go. He didnt get touched in the fight but he still peaked his training camp to a fight. Let him rest instead of trying to extend his peak fitness. Forget 301 Alex is the future.
He's 36 so I wouldn't call him the future
10:00 good point. Jiri probably would take that short notice fight. What if Dana offered them both points too ? Bc this card is not great. Plus Jiri was out a while. He likely wants to make up for that income. Lowered stakes thanks to late notice against a dangerous guy atleast in terms of optics only. He’s in shape. He’s near camp weight. I wonder if Alex takes the fight though. Probably. And Jiri has adjusted before I’d love to see what he came at Alex with in a rematch.
Doesn’t need saved . Just would be even more awesome of a card .
Id agrue adding lazy light heavy makes card worse.
No
That would be great for both fighters. Win win
I don't understand why people keep shiting on the Flyweight division. All the recents fights from Pantoja were absolutely🔥
Flyweight is a super fun division. The problem is it's not very deep.
Flyweight is trash compared to the non-existent Super Heavyweight division that the UFC is unbelievably dumb for not creating. Fans would love Super Heavyweight way more than boring Flyweight.
@@BiggieTrismegistus I agree that it's not very deep, but people keep trashing great fighters like Mickey Mouse, Moreno, Figueiredo and Pantoja, and I just don't get it. I mean, Cejudo had to leave the division to gain respect. In the top 5, the fights are great, even with the small amount of top contenders.
No opponent is gonna say yes to him on 3 weeks notice
Jamal had some major openings in his defense it looked like to me. I think Pereira noticed he was dropping that lead hand on every strike so he was trying to time a big shot and he did it on his first attempt!
In HW You can pretty much pick anybody because outside of Lewis v Nascimento, none of them are slated to fight through June 1st. You have Volkov v Pavlovich near the end of June. Cyrl Gane and Spivac haven't fought since Sept of last year so you can pick a high ranked HW or a middle of the range ranked HW. Hell Romanov hasn't fought since JULY. There are a few that you could get who fought earlier this year like De Lima, Blades, Almeida, and it's HW so it's not like they have to really go through much of a weight cut and they get to slap a big name on their resume if they win. There are options out there. That being said, supposedly Alex had a broken toe going into the fight and broke another during the fight so he might not be cleared to go.
Cyril vs Alex would probably be kind of fun. Or Khalil but maybe at catch weight, not because Alex won’t lose his belt but because maybe it’s to soon. But I wouldn’t mind
non title bout against gane would be cool for 301
Pereira vs Tai Tuivasa makes a lot of sense for the UFC. If Pereira wins, it sets him up for a heavyweight title fight. If Tuivasa wins, Pereira remains a big star at LHW and Tuivasa gets his shine back
The pound saver menu🤣
Alex said in post interview that he wants to fight in Heavyweight and that he wants to bulk up for it. So maybe one more defense at LHW
Holy shit.. tom aspinall looks badass. Man a TITANIC BATTLE BETWEEN 2 TITANS
POATAN & BIG TOM
If you have Aspinall V Pereira in Manchester (which is *the* fight to make right now), then you could put the Edwards V Belal fight on that card too and not have to worry about the popularity or interest in that fight.
I need the Rebellis despange vs Alex Pereira fight
considering he’s not fighting on the card, it will be difficult
I would like to see Pereira fight Rountree at 301 ideally but obviously there's the weight issue snd broken toe
Why it won't happen on short notice:
- Alex injured toes
- His opponent needing a visa to fight in Brazil
Every time I hear about Alex I get ptsd flash backs of izzy wearing that dog collar 😂
How many fighters fight on consecutive PPVs?
Don't think it'll happen
See this is the thing, big heavyweight punches will do damage through his guard even if he blocks any of them....
Imagine for just a moment….the announcement gets made Pereira vs Blaydes…ufc 301!!!
Idk after seeing Aspinal get 40,000 score on the punch machine and Pereira getting 190,000 I can definitely see Pereira knocking Aspinal out 😂
I really hope we do get him vs aspinall next as ank seems pointless it could be a 1 round ground and pound destruction and even if Alex pulls of his magic again it wont be that impressive or interesting to me anyway
I couldnt imagine if pierera wins. Than he fights Ngannou what a fight that would be
Dane “take this last min fight”

DANA “NO ONE WANTS TO FIGHT!”
We all need to start talking about Poatan as the greatest of all time. Two championship belts in 11 fights. BJJ black belt under Glover. Double Glory champ. Future TRIPLE UFC champ. Ripped body and elite fighting skills. He touches you and you die. Crazy. I feel so honored to witness his greatness. Unbridled creativity and art in it's purest form. The artist has just created a masterpiece. Take a bow, king. Take a bow.
Honestly, yeah. Or at least on some Mount Rushmore of MMA. The man comes over from a complete kickboxing career and goes on an insane UFC run. I'm also a defender of his loss to Izzy. I think they really rushed the rematch to get Izzy back in the win column.
why do people always have to go to far lol, hes a great fighter but putting him anywhere near GOAT status is INSANE
Greatest UFC fighter, absolutely not. Greatest combat athlete then ya there's a good argument for that
yeah idk about that dont start having your donut glazed dude
Stop dawg. Title defenses mean something. Hes amazing but he has years of work to do to surpass guys like GSP and DJ
This was better in video format not podcast
Just set up Pereira vs Aspinall on international fight week with Connor being on the card
Quality lads!
Hold on there now, Jan is a very skilled grappler, he's just first and foremost a striker. I'm not saying he's on Aspenal's level, (I def don't think he is), but it's annoying the way a lot of people pretend as Jan's an awful grappler or somethin, he's legit like the second or third best grappler in the entire 205 division. Though, to be fair - that's more so cuz there aren't many/any highly ranked grapplers in the entire division nowadays. As for Ale's grappling, people forget he took Izzy down first and was way my effective in the clinch, it's just he couldn't get back to his feet after attempting a stupid trip which Izzy countered in round 3. Since then he's improved quite a bit. With Izzy he was obviously panicking, then when Jan took him down and got his back he, unlike his fight Izzy, he managed to remain calm and successfully defended Jan's numerous attempts to submit him. Later Jan took him down again, but Alex relatively quickly managed to get back to his feet. Then the same with Jiri, he protected himself well and didn't panic and managed to get back his feet again. I think people really overstate his lack of grappling skill. I mean, he's still at the end of the day not what I'd consider to be good or anything, just that he's better than people give him credit for imo.
That all being said - and despite me being the biggest Poatan fanboy out there who also thinks he certainly has a chance with Tom.... it's just not much of one. Alex may be improved, but he's still nowhere near Tom's level, plus Tom would be arguably even stronger than Alex to boot. Tom's also an extremely smart fighter as well as being both well-rounded and very athletically gifted. Unlike guys like Strickland and Hill - he's not gonna allow his ego and the need to "prove i can beat the guy at the thing he does best", he'll take him down, control him and then more than likely submit Alex or get a tko stoppage from ground and pound. He def has the skills and physical attributes to have a have a better chance of putting Alex away on the feet than anyone he's fought yet, (including Izzy, who yes rocked him in their first time and then ko'd him in their second - based on the fact Alex take clean shots from Jan and Jiri and not even being wobbled, i think it's proving more and more that his ridiculous weight-cutts were the pre-eminent factor in why Izzy put him out), Tom's simply not dumb enough to risk the possibility of getting flattened. This is why i agree with the dude on the far left - he just should fight some other HW contender on this short of notice, (if he even gets medically cleared due to that broken toe he suffered a couple weeks back), and i think the best option o both get his feet wet in the division while also demonstrating to the UFC that he could legitimately compete at HW - should be Cyril Gane. Now that'd be a banger of a fight! I'm a huge Gane fan too, but the way he's been ducking guys like Aspenal lately has been pissing me off. Poatan has arguably less experience at grappling that Gane has and yet Alex is still willing to step to Tom. I think Gane would though take the Alex fight, and man that' be a great fight to see. No one that Gane has fought yet has, (not even Volkov), anywhere near the striking pedigree that Alex has, it's be interesting to see what'd happen if he fought a dude even more skilled, equally as athletic and quick - the way Alex is. Sorry for the rant, didn't realize how effin long this comment was till i just finished typing it.
Jason, did you say “start hiding” like they haven’t done it before?
Alex and Jiri fought in UFC 300, they both are same "tired", or not so, cause Alex have this thing broken and Jiri had more struggle on his fight, idk, but I think Jiri is crazy enought to sign a contract for 301. That could happen.
"name a cheaper subscription service" I can certainly name cheaper podcasts 😜
I’m an Alex fan and I think he might lose to Ankalaev but I’ve been saying champs need 3 title defenses to move up and I’m sticking by that.
He won’t lose
Give him a “layup” in his division if possible for 301. I say Khalil rountree. Still a tough opponent, but a theoretically good matchup that should be fun for the fans
UFC needs to cut Jon Jones and make Aspinall the legit champion. JJ has been destroying UFC for his entire career just kick him to the curb and let him go fight in Pellator.

Is that Aspinall's MiniMe wearing brown over brown?
Yes sir
Even if he is medically cleared to fight I can’t see a world Alex takes a ankalaev fight on 3 weeks notice after just doing a predominantly striking camp, magomed can say he would stand with Alex all he’s likes but as soon as those doors shut you know he’s thinking about shooting

If Peirra wins a 3rd belt hes the greatest of all time which is insane because he started his ufc career at almost 35 years old. I think he should defend his belt once or twice before he challenges for the hw belt though. Beating Espinal right now doesn't do anything for him because Espinal is only the interim champion. It would only be worth it if Espinal becomes the undisputed HW champion "even though I consider Tom the heavyweight champion because Jones never won the lineal belt anyways and Tom has been beating the top guys"
He doesn't want another weight cut, so jus give him Parker porter lol. And let him have fun
I thought I heard Dana said he didn’t want pereira in heavyweight
Yeah, he can save it, as long as they keep him away from anyone with good grappling.
He's a multiple time world kickboxing champion and he's just kickboxing in the UFC, it's not really mma.
Ankaliev should be a test because he will probably use mixed martial arts when he fights Alex.
Brazil: this is your guy. This is your Michael Jordan. Not Anderson, not the noguerias, not Aldo, Wandy, etc... Alex MFng Perrera! A living legend.
No need to disrespect past legends. Anderson and Wanderlei, etc were the guys but Alex is just the man right now.
@Priceluked all the love for past legends too ❤️ I've been watching since 04. Alex is just awesome. And the scary part is he's still getting better.
Alex broke one of his toes during camp. I don't think he'll be medically cleared in time for 301.
Renan Barao defended his interim belt like 2 times, no?
I want Pereira v Blades if he goes up. Will never happen though.
Its complety pointless to find for interim belt, come on
Too bad someone from his team just came out and said he'll be there for the show but he will not be fighting. Probably should have waited a day for that topic 😂
If you are shoving him up there at heavyweight it can't be Tom on that short of notice. Tom won't do that I wouldn't imagine. But I bet you could get Curtis Blaydes to fight Periera in Brazil
I'd pitch Alex vs Gane. Would be a v interesting striking match-up, a taste of Alex at HW and gives Gane something to do because he's still technically the number 1 contender.
They’d be pretty stupid to let him fight at 301. Why risk him losing on short notice and killing the buzz from 300
I say give him a fun fight at catchweight!
As a fan that appreciates quality competitive fights over the drama and pageantry of the sport I'd rather see great fighters fight eachother than watch popular fighters pad their records knocking off tomato cans.
Considering he just set a new record, it seems logical for Alex Pereira to fight Francis Ngannou
Dude Alex literally got knocked out cold
Not sure if it’s just me, I have absolutely no desire to see a Pereira vs Ankalaev
Is that Tom’s little brother?
As fun as it would be to see Pereira to fight Aspinall in 301 or whenever... it would be a disaster for Pereira if Aspinall is smart. Aspinall could take him down basically at will and fold him up like a lawn chair.
Alex should fight for an interim interim title against Derrick Lewis
Jon Jones and Alex should fight in December. If Alex moves up and win . And if Jon Jones beats stipe
