    Great thank you! Worked for me. I used a flat tapered steel type spatula like a thin but not sharp knife and just pushed in under the battery separating the glue from the battery and the chassis. Just keep the pressure gentle and firm until it gets to the point of no return and the thing just starts to let go and its's off!

      Yep, just takes time. Glad this helped you out.

    ALWAYS hook up the new battery and test that it works and charges before you stick it. Imagine having to do that all over again for the same result. You can also just leave the peel-off side on the battery for super easy removal in the future. If you're worried it might rattle around in the case, use a thin piece of foam tape to shim it against the back of the case.

      That's actually a great idea. I had thought about sticking it down just barely, in such a fashion, but I wanted the video to convey how it's actually supposed to go. Most people won't even possibly attempt this repair, and toss the unit, buying a newer one because they think it's "better".

    Thank you for doing this video. I would not have had the courage to try this had I not found this. For me the hardest part was getting the cover off; didn't have any special tools to do that so I'm lucky I didn't break the screen. This was my last chance before getting rid of my Fire HD10 1080P 64GB.

    • @jaykay18

      Sure, no problem. Sometimes you have to think objectively about the situation. If the thing really doesn't work, or the battery only lasts 10 minutes on a charge, it's not really a useful device anymore. That means that even if something were to go horribly awry, you had nothing to lose to begin with. That's exactly why I attempted this repair.

    I have a dumbed down version of that. It's a Kindle fire 7. It's the $49 one. Got it for Christmas a few years ago. Mine still works fine but I got tired of only being able to download apps from Amazon as their selection kinda sucks and they don't upgrade the apps too often. I knew there had to be a way to download from the Google Play store so I started Googling how. I found a website that told me how to install Google Play on a Kindle Fire and now I have all the apps I want and can get the latest revisions. For instance the Ebay app on Amazon was so old I was getting messages from Ebay to upgrade it because support was ending. As far as i know Amazon still hasn't put an updated app on their store, probably they prefer you buy from them instead of Ebay, but I was able to get it through the Play store. I really only use it for a few games and surfing the internets on a weekend morning when I'm too comfortable to get out of bed :)

      This was a Christmas present also, the mother-in-law got it for the wife. Meanwhile, I got a $50 WalMart special HP tablet for her the same year. Guess which one received more usage. The HP is still going strong after all these years. Though the OS on it is getting a bit dated and apps are starting to lose support, so it may be time to replace it soon.
      This Kindle was a misguided purchase from the get-go, because the wif reads on a black-and-white e-ink display that actually has contrast AND can be seen outside in direct sunlight! She has no use for a color screen since the text is black and white to begin with. There were a couple of blah games available for it; I need to look up how to do that Google Play trick with it.

  • @jeep146

    Your right about the glue. I took the kindle outside and worked it on picnic table just in case. I used a mouse pad to lay it on. I ended up using a putty knife and worked it slowly.

      Yes, it was awful pulling that old one out. I really regretted putting the new battery in with its adhesive backing, but I figured when that battery dies anyway, the device itself will be so antiquated that it wouldn't be worth putting another battery in.

    I have in the past used dental floss to remove adhesive pads. You use it in a sawing action to get under the adhesive pad. It might work for this

      @jaykay18  5 років тому

      Yes, always see what you have first, with any repair, so you know if the new part will looks the same. Then, when you get the new part, you can compare the two side-by-side.

    You were really pushing your luck bending the battery even that much.. Aside from the ridiculous adhesive, this device seems relatively serviceable.. On the new battery, I would have left the adhesive protection on, and put a few pieces of tape around the outside of the battery to secure it.. This way it could be removed easily next time.. There's probably not enough room inside for there to be much risk of it shifting around anyways..
    And to add a rude comment for good measure, you should have used a different background.. The visibility of the dark device was rather low as the camera was compensating for the light background..

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  6 років тому +1

      I agree. The adhesive on the back of that old battery was way too strong. There was no other way to remove that without heating it, which is also a big no-no. I actually thought of not securing the new battery down like you said, but didn't want to have to re-open the device should it come loose. Sure, if it did, it has nowhere to really go, but might rattle. And yes, the tape around it could fail, causing that. Chances are, there won't be a next time replacing the battery, just the device. Not because of physical damage to it, but either because it will China out or just become so obsolete it's unsupported even by Amazon.
      To answer your rude comment, you said was was for good measure. The problem is, the previous things you mentioned were actually perfectly measured, so now the entire thing is ruined. You have overbid (Price Is Right Losing Horns)! Besides, I don't see any other background in any of your videos, black phone or white phone or anything in between.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU 6 років тому +1

      There's no doubt it was intentionally too strong.. It's unfortunate this flavour of devices has such a limited lifespan for no good reason..
      I don't use a stark white background in my videos.. I've found the color I use is the best combination of being able to see well in the video, and me being able to see well in person.. If I were to use a darker background, I struggle to see the smaller parts like the speaker gaskets and such..

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  6 років тому

      The color you use is just the wood that's there! But I don't know where that fits in with not being able to smell colors...

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  6 років тому

      I don't have the plethora of colors of towels at my disposal. Just that one and a sort of yellowish one. The yellowish one is awaiting a wash cycle. Come to think of it, this white one could go in too.

    I replaced the battery in my fire 8.9 2012 version and was doing well until the last two steps of reattaching the two screen connectors. In doing this the far left clip retainer fell apart. Is this the end of the line? What’s odd is that the tablet had actually turned on and was working until I broke the clip retainer.

      Unless you can somehow get that retainer back together, that's probably about it.

      If it were too far away, you'd say there wasn't enough detail. I can't do it for you, this video demonstrates the steps and technique, you have to do the actual labor, so seeing more won't make the job go any easier. A lot of it is being careful and wrestling the old battery out. The rest is simple.

      @jaykay18  3 роки тому

      @@tiffanyvelasquez1939 I wasn't there when you replaced the battery so I don't know what or even if you did anything wrong. The only thing I could suggest is to open the unit back up, and inspect everything, make sure there are no connectors that were dislodged or anything like that. Some of these connectors are very small, so you may need a magnifier. Disconnect the battery and leave the unit for 30 minutes, then reconnect it and try again. Sometimes it's just a transient issue.
      Even if it doesn't work, it didn't work to start with, so you're only out the price of the battery; the unit was going to have to be replaced regardless.

      Can you please be so kind to tell us exactly the battery specs you bought for yours. Thanks for your time doing the video to help us all :o)

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  5 років тому +1

      I'm sorry, but this isn't a one-size-fits-all application. You need to find out EXACTLY which model AND revision Fire you have. Once you have that information, you can search for replacement batteries. The listing for the battery should list your specific one. If it does, there's a good chance it will work. That's why there are different numbers and it's so confusing, you need to find out specifically what you need. The replacement procedure is very similar.

    • @hayjud5123
      @hayjud5123 5 років тому +1

      I know it's not a one size-fits-all battery, I'm really not that dumb. I asked you since your video is for the Kindle Fire HD, which is what I have... Thanks anyway!

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  5 років тому +2

      There are different revisions within the same model. It might be worth your while to pop the back case off and get the numbers on the existing battery to find the right replacement.
