- Named for nearby Mount Index, which is just a few miles south, the town is located in the foothills of the majestic Cascade Mountain range, off U.S. Highway 2. To the south is the sparkling Skykomish River; to the north is the Town Wall, a 1,000-foot-high granite cliff. Throughout the area are abundant forests and places to day-hike and explore. The town itself is relatively untouched by commercial development; there’s a general store, a quaint town hall, activities center and lodge where you can buy coffee (a staple of Northwest living) and rent equipment for outdoor adventures. In Index, the vibe is quiet and peaceful, given that humans are far outnumbered by mountains and trees.
Khub khub sundor... Durdharsho
So pleased to see folks from the city who drive out to our little town in the mountains to enjoy for a few hours what we live every day. Index has been my home for over 47 years and I never tire of the beauty that surrounds us. I would just make two corrections for places that are misnamed in your video. What you refer to as the Sheriff's Office is the Index Station for the local district fire department and what you refer to as Heybrook Ridge is the northern end of the Index Town Wall in Forks Of The Sky State Park. Heybrook Ridge would be directly behind that viewpoint to the south, back across the river. Thanks for sharing your lovely afternoon and come again.
