Nikon F5 is a great backup beside the Nikon D3s. The Nikon F5 is my first camera back in 2000. I shoot 8 years B/W erotic portraits than in 2008 i must go to the D700. Now i got two Nikon D3s but i used my old D Nikon prime portraits lenses from my F5.
I Enjoyed it. I own a D300s, and I wish I owned an F5. I have a question for you. Does F5 focuses faster than D300? I am asking that because I also own an f50 and I think it focuses faster than D300s when you use a D lens. F50s cant focus with G lenses unfortunately. But yes please give me your opinion regarding focusing. Is F5 faster than D300 when you use a D lens?
Dimitrios Zacharatos Thanks for your kind comment, I have not compared the speed focus speeds, but it is something that I will check out and let you know my findings.
lensman2online Well, if F50 focuses more decisively compared to D300s, I assume this is also true with F5. F50 was at the bottom of the line when I bought it. I didn't have money at the time to buy F5 since I was a student. The cost was around 3500 euros for a brand new item. Nonetheless F5 was and is a wonderful machine which deserves the cost. My guess is that the more focusing points Nikon adds the more difficult it becomes to focus fast because you need more processing power for every focusing point added. F50 has only one focusing point whilst D300s has 51 focusing points which is too much if you ask me. I never had a problem focusing and reframing with my F50.
+Dimitrios Zacharatos I've shot a D300s and I currently own a D7100 which as far as I know have the same focusing system. I have also both a F100 and F5, and my experience is that the F100 and the F5 tend to focus faster than the D7100 and D300s.
I believe that you can use all Nikon lenses with the Nikon F mount, but on modern SLR's you may not get all the lens functions, But please note that the DX lenses are only for DSLR's with the cropped sensor.
