This guy might be legit the coolest rockstar to ever have lived. The way he describes running from the police is actually so subversive of most typical 'badass' anecdotes, he loved playing music and expressing himself, and simply doing that is such a cooler act of rebellion than any riots or messes that typically accompany a rock front man.

I gave the thumbs down because there’s no doubt about it. He is the most legit, coolest Rockstar!
The best Strummer video is him at the Atlantic City boardwalk. He’s such a cool dude, so humble. I’ve watched it over and over. RIP Joe, I love you sir.
I thought the opposite, it showed how far Joe had fallen practically begging for people to watch him perform. Joe was one of the coolest people alive until about 1983. But then he lost the plot, fired Mick Jones and formed the horrible late version of the Clash. He became a selfish, corporate shill with nothing else to give or say.
@D MERLS wow that's harsh. Joe certainly is to blame for some and he immediately knew and regretted it but Mick was on such an ego trip so there is that. Joe still deserved better than how it was for him after the clash till his death...
You listen to the London Calling album and the sheer finesse of the music, it boggles the mind that it came from such rough beginnings. The Clash transcended punk rock by leaps and bounds. There will only ever be one Joe Strummer.
I always say that: The ramones started punk The sex pistols blew it up The clash saved punk and carried it on, if not for them it would've died the day the sex pistols disbanded
I didnt know either, this interview actually helped cuz I was gonna get my first guitar, and im left hand but I was gonna get a right handed one because how hard can it be? And the lefties ones are like £50 more but then I heard his story and I new I had to get get the left handed 😂
Joe’s autobiography is worth reading! His lyrics and music were a great inspiration to me and contributed a lot to my sensibilities as an artist. I had the great fortune to see The Clash perform twice - in Pittsburgh and in Philadelphia. Thanks, Joe! Peace and love to all.
it was always the clash for me from 1978 i was so sad the day he died i remember seeing a headline punk legend dead later i found out it was joe strummer

It really was Steve Jones taking offence to what the vulgar interviewer said to Siouxsie Sioux " you dirty old man, what a filthy rotter..." An amazing moment in broadcasting and music. Feel lucky to have seen both The Clash in 1981 and The Mescaleros not long before Joe's death. I cried out in anguish at work when I saw the news. "who's Joe Strummer?" was the reply from my younger colleagues.
that scene at the end was so sweet. for a man who played so ferociously, what a gentle, kind spirit he had.
He is always is a kind spirit

Well that's the first Strummer interview I ever saw. What a cool guy.
Such a gentleman. Makes sure the lady gets the seat. That’s class.

Thats his "public school" and "diplomates son" upbringing !

I sort of leart to play bass on "London Calling"… I could play it as well as Paul Simonon after a couple of years.
