The fact that NFL 2K5 records your online opponent's gameplay so that you can play them again offline is pretty damned cool
You’re the GOAT for uploading these. I don’t think an archive exists anywhere else, correct me if I’m wrong. I’m so damn nostalgic for this channel it’s insane. This was truly a good time to be alive.
Also, watching G4 always makes me want to play Resident Evil 4. Something about that review stuck with me so hard that I subconsciously attach the two things together now lol.
you're officially back to being the official source for g4, please keep it coming as much as possible. absolutely love your channel. if you could do more of the multiple hour techtv/g4 compilations as well, id love you forever, please keep up the fantastic work!!

XPlay may have died twice, but at least we'll have the old episodes to remind us of how great it once was.
they never revived it, a 2 hour podcast is not xplay
@@Tw0tson and this was the main reason people wanted g4 back. I wish they got a cash injection from a younger company, and they actuallly brought back the REAL xplay formula. We didnt need G4TV to return, just some of our favorite people and formats.

When this episode originally aired, Mallys made a thread on the G4 Forums about feedback on the G4 set. Just about everyone hated it.

@@stephenthedude4383 They hated how it looked too small, and also how the colors clashed. Special criticism was reserved for the egg chairs. I also remember one person saying, and I quote: "They have a bar, because a bar looks hip, modern, and cool." (i.e. it has the stink of all generic G4 sets).

I appreciate that the video is in 4:3, instead of 16:9 with black bars on the sides.
The black bars are due to "upscaling" the episodes in my video editor. The original application I had used for years was sold to a German company and went the way of the dodo when Apple went fully 64-bit. So what I have to use now to make videos accessible adds the black bars automatically when I export at 720p. It's either less compression with black bars and somewhat clearer video, or lots of compression at lower resolution without black bars.

I got burned out during the pandemic.
I went from uploading videos maybe once or twice a month to uploading at least one video almost every day for like 1/2 a year. In early 2020, my old iMac started slowing and nothing was functioning as I hadn't updated it in 9 years (I didn't want to lose my stuff that was not compatible). And the 90% of my archives on the new computer I got were NOT compatible, as I feared. Plus my interests in general changed, stuff in my personal life happened, and I started moving away from gaming more and more. And when my telecommuting started to end last year, that was 2-3 hours less time a day to do and keep up with things.
When G4 announced their return, I didn't know if I would receive a cease and desist request or not. Come to find out, just the opposite happened. A few people at G4 reached out and others were actually rather supportive of the channel and giving me shout-outs. But the impression I had was that, ultimately, G4 was going to start uploading older episodes and content. Reps had on their Discord had said in passing that the master tapes were in a vault, but they couldn't be accessed because of COVID. Well, almost two years later, G4 is now gone again and no one ever went into the vault. We would get some older footage spliced into some modern content, but not the way I think a lot of the longtime fans had hoped for.
The odd thing is, I started uploading and publicizing random videos on my channel a few days before. Stuff from FoxKids, old TV clips, comic book stuff. I randomly grabbed a few X-Play episodes to upload and began the conversion process. I started putting them on UA-cam and a few hours later, the news that G4 was ceasing all operations hit the web. Just a very strange cosmic abnormality colliding all at once. Now a bunch of people are coming back to watch the older stuff and I have a few episodes converted as all modern G4 content no longer exists.

10 bucks says you don't have Sesslers review of the PS2 launch title Smuggler's Run. :) (literally I'll give you ten bucks... Or name your price, if you can find that darn review. It doesn't exist anywhere or any archival footage i've seen on the internet. or channels that have uploaded episodes )
An episode of "GameSpot TV" from July 1999 resurfaced four months ago. "Pokemon Snap" and "Ape Escape" were reviewed in that episode.
@@VahanNisanian Yea. For the better part of 10 years I've looked for the smuggler's run episode. Once a year I seem to sleuth all the archival footage in hopes I missed something in years past.
I believe it was a PS2 Launch episode or around that time. It's shocking there is a dreamcast lauch episode on the internet, but not the Playstation 2 launch episode.
Only thing I found is Sessler giving some cheat/advice for smugglers run in a later episode but it's not the full review that he did. Specifically remember him talking about "Draw distance.
I did not receive TechTV unti a few weeks after X-Play launched. I was only able to catch 4 episodes of Extended Play, thanks to their VOD service. At one point, I had two episode recorded, but one accidentally got recorded over or lost... so I only have the "Year in Review" from 2002. I do, however, have a whole folder of random web clips from that era in horribly, horribly low quality .ASF file format.

What is it about old G4 that makes us so nostalgic? Why couldn't the reboot have done things right?
I grew up with xplay during a time where being a gamer meant you were getting verbal and physically metaphorical tomatoes thrown at you at a daily basis! Hehe I hated school! And i remember that I RAN home to watch xplay cause it felt like a place with friends, where I could belong, even if I was watching it alone! I remember being so utterly excited when I heard they were coming back... only to pay them little to no mind nowadays! Ya see, I don't want sex appeal! And i certainly I don't want games and politics to mix, as they enjoy doing lately! I just want to watch a video about a video game by gamers that love games, and aren't washed out from them or absolute bigots who just don't understand gamers or video games in the first place!
Need someone to remaster all these old episodes to make them look better?

I used to work here as an editing intern. Morgan was phony as fudge.
She couldn't have been. She started at TechTV, which was known for having people who were personable and relatable. Not saying everyone who originated at G4 were/are phonies.

Those low-to-the-ground chairs didn't last long. Looked really uncomfterbal.
Sudeki is one the best games in my bad videogame collection. For all its faults it hard lots of charm.
Not every game has to be technically good to be entertaining. Sudeki isn't bad, just very mediocre.
