This is one of those hidden Bangerz that the Beatles are known for
That noise is called feedback, Feedback was very common in the 60's
Lol after I Feel Fine came out..then it was common
The feedback in this is glorious. Resolving from the horn, in tune. Beautiful.
I love how you weren't sure at first but Ringo's drum fill made you smile and the rest sold you. This is one of my favorite songs. Makes me wonder what might have been if they had let him do more songs on the album.
Great drumming from Ringo
A little bit of George psychedelia. I always dug this one when the album came out, and still do!
A real deep cut. You have to be a true Beatles fan like this one. Glad you enjoyed.
Written by the great George Harrison in an attempt to convey his experiences with LSD. As a side note, George, John and their wives were invited to dinner at George’s dentist’s home and at some point realized that the dentist had drugged their coffee with LSD and did not want them to leave…totally bizarre, but true. Back to the video though. I love this song! It’s such a vibe. I really only started listening to it a few years ago. Would be one of the songs that dispel the myth that the Beatles are just some “boy band.” Great reaction from you too.
Can’t imagine being slipped acid
YyiKeS
Too Much.
This is it ladies and gentlemen, this is it.
Been a Beatles fan for 34 years and always gets me how they managed to get what was in their head on to tape, amazing
Wow! I’m impressed Jay. I love the deep dive you’ve taken. This is great. I love your enthusiasm and your willingness to check out more obscure songs from this band of geniuses. 🌺✌️
Love this deeper cut! Sonically asmazing..
All the world is birthday cake...so take a piece but not too much.
When The Beatles had finished recording the Sgt Peppers album they were worried that all the production techniques they had used in making it had ruined their abilities as live musicians so they started jamming in the studio to get their musical chops back together. One night they played til about 2am and the Abbey Road staff all went home and left the keys with the boys. It's All Too Much is the only recording they "jammed" together at this time (May 1967) that has been released. Glad you enjoyed this overlooked track Jayy! ;)
I remember suggesting this one to you many moons ago. George was certainly 'out there' when he wanted to be.
Great pick Jayy. Keep it up. The Beatles are something else.
George Harrison could hold a grudge. George Martin openly displayed his disdain for Only A Northern Song. Stating flatly it had no place on the bands next album (Sgt Pepper). Harrison knew he needed Martin's help in scoring and transcribing his Eastern influenced Within You Without You for the studio musicians. George didn't want to record his newest composition at EMI. Harrison wanted to liberate himself from EMI's stale conditions and Martin's scrutiny. So the band spent 3 nights at De Lane Lee Studios, located in the Soho district of Central London. These 3 sessions were described by those in attendance as uninhibited, experimental and a whole lot of fun. Harrison never got over Martins dismissal of Only A Northern Song. The fallout was Harrison and Martins relationship was never the same. RNB
If Martin was really so ugly towards Harrison regarding OANS, that's appalling. I bet he wouldn't have handled things the same way had it been Paul or John's composition. Martin's assessment was totally wrong. OANS would have been a highlight on Sgt Pepper, an album about a BAND playing their SONGS! I'd gladly swap OANS for Lennon's Good Morning Good Morning.
@@tracyyork1428 As you may know Tracy, after the breakup, Martin did admit to not giving George songs the same level of attention he did to Messrs. Lennon and McCartney. A regret he carried with him the rest of his life. As he should've. I could've done without GMGM as well. Best wishes, RNB
@ricknbacker5626 Yes, this exchange about OANS makes me recall a one line quote from Martin about his treatment of Harrison, which I read in Phillip Norman's Shout: "I was rather beastly to George".
I wouldn't blame George Martin. He was an older gentleman who had served in WWII and he was more traditional. If my memory serves me right, "Only a Northern Song" was an insult to the music publishing company the Beatles had helped to create. In those days, artists, including the Fab Four, got ripped off. George Martin was a proper English gentleman and he would not want to be associated with anything unbecoming of him. Nevertheless, he tolerated quite a bit of nonsense from the boys. The Beatles started Apple Records to help other artists avoid getting ripped off by managers and record companies. They produced the band, Bad Finger, who were great. Unfortunately, they had a contract with an unscrupulous manager. They were so distraught by their legal problems that two members of the band committed suicide.
@@bobrush4217 Hi Bob. I was specifically commenting on Georges rational for choosing a non EMI Studio to record It's All Too Much. This was directly related to the fall out from the OANS sessions. The Badfinger debacle was criminal to its core. One of music histories saddest chapters. Formed in Feb 1963, Northern Songs was the publishing company listing Dick James Brian Epstein and Lennon & McCartney as partners who which would divide the spoils. George and Ringo got a pittance in comparison. Sept 1964, saw George set in motion, to what, by December, would become Harrisongs Publishing. George had to wait till late 1967 for his contract with Northern Songs to run out. There by then allowing George complete control over his publishing. After years (in Georges mind) of getting ripped off. OANS was a justified rejoinder. My view is George Martin was out of line in his public dissing of OANS/ That's the Beatles call, not his. Sorry for the ramble. Best wishes, RNB
Great track, one of their most underrated
Back in 1965, when i was 12, when "Ticket to Ride" came over the am radio for the first time.I dropped everything and by the time song ended I was waiting in line at my record store to buy the new Beatles 45------ Rick Bloom (Drums) Beatlemania 1978-1980)
Yes, great analysis, Miss Jayy! The music itself was almost too much! Good one!
More Cowbell!!
I love the way George was singing and his voice is most haunting of all Fab 4. This song is so full of love. I compare it to Stevie Wonder's Love Have You Around.
"With your long blonde hair and eyes of blue" is borrowed from a song called "Sorrow" by The Merseys.
"Sorrow" was actually first recorded by The McCoys a year earlier than The Merseys, but The Merseys made it a hit.
Or perhaps in reference to George’s wife patti you moron
Thank you, I have been waiting for you to react to this song. There is an 8 minute version too, somewhere. One of their finest tracks. Good job.
This song is very familiar to anyone who loves the Yellow Submarine movie ❤
It's the Beatles !
George was definitely coming into his own element by the time Yellow Submarine came out ~ he was exploring Indian music & adding Indian session musicians to their songs ~ combine that with LSD & you have a very unique mixture
This was recorded mostly in May 1967. Published 19 months later.
George plays the organ on this but as for the distorted guitar I have seen a source say it was played by George as well and I have seen a source say it was John.
It actually sounds like Paul's freestyle playing !! It's a bit advanced for John.
Never heard this song as much.
The song they used in the Yellow Submarine flm after they got rid of all the Blue Meanies, a song of joy, flowers blooming everywhere etc, very psychedelic.
The background sound is guitar feedback. If the guitar gets too close to the amp, the guitar picks up the sound of the amp and it will keep feeding back sounding like a shriek until the guitar is moved away. Guitarists began using feedback for musical effects in the 60s.
I believe it's an electric guitar with the 'whammy bar' or tremolo. If you watch Hendrix at Woodstock, you see him use it to maximum effect when playing the Star Spangled Banner. Imagine, though, that's John playing a la Hendrix on this tune when they recorded it in May 67.
There's also an 8:30 minutes version of this song
George Martin Producer, Genius, 5th BeaTle
Steve Hillage did a brilliant cover of this.
Have you heard the bootleg version? If not you should look it up. "It's All Too Much" is in my opinion the Beatles most underrated song. It is one of my favorites... and one of their best.
George Martin its brillant, he is The fifth Beatle for sure.
My fav❤️🤘 blue jay way by the beatles is a must
My favorite George Harrison composition. I love the way you can hear him growing slowly as a songwriter though from the early 60s, when he was still a teenager, over the next decade.
Blue Jay Way
The guys recorded this right after Sgt Pepper, in a different studio from where they normally record. The four of them recorded the basic track, Ringo on drums, George on organ. The big debate is whether Paul played bass or lead guitar. I lean towards him being on bass, and it's John Lennon on lead guitar. He wasn't known for playing lead guitar as often, he was the rhythm guitarist in the band during the early years. It's an amazing performance, Hendrix would have blushed if this had been released back in mid 67 when it was recorded, as opposed to 1969 when the Yellow Submarine album was finally released.
You should hear Steve Hillage's cover of this. A worthy cover excellent in its own right.
Cosigning the shit out of this recc, Steve Hillage's version is glorious
John Lennon screams “for your muff” at the start of the song lol, it’s all too much for your muff, I think was the joke. ( muff is British slang for umm Va Jay Jay ) .. sorry to bring a lowbrow moment to an absolute classic from Harrison.
Nice story, but it was George. What George really said, although it was all but unintelligible, was "To Jorma". Jorma is Jorma Kaukonen, an American guitarist, who once played with Jefferson Airplane. Jorma and George had recently become friends.
Brilliant
EARGASM😎
My favorite song by George
FLAB bass
George singing!
There’s the Beatles then the rest of them
ya think!
A lot of feedback back from amps makes otherworldly noise.
And now you can look forward to a brand new Beatles song ('Now and Then') coming up - to be released next week, 2nd November. You should do a reaction to this one!
You will be very disappointed in the new Beatles song it is a total waste of time.
No it's not@@MUE4731
Is Ringo slamming the drums ?
that's a bass harmonica.
Hi ! Try to listen to the Reo Brothers the Beatles of the Philippines.❤
George has had enough
Intended for Sgt Pepper but never included
Journey does a great version of this song.
George..
I’m not getting any picture
George Martin ?
