We are all dinosaurs, I'm afraid. But this program has some pretty good training wheels. Had to if I was able to learn it. I tried and failed at others, getting frustrated by the steep learning curve and then just going back to the old scratch building techniques. This has been a real game changer for my modeling. Now let me go see if I can hitch up my carriage and get back to work....haha. Appreciate your good comments and it was good to finally be able to make a video after such a long delay. Too many "life events" during the middle/end of last year.

Wow, as someone just coming to grips with my Silhouette I see a pretty healthy learning curve on this to get level. But damn cool to see the possibilities that await.
Lots of possibilities and the learning curve isn't as steep as you might think in regards to this particular software package. A lot easier then the others I tried. But like the Silhouette, there is a learning curve but it's worth it. Thanks for taking the time to provide some feedback. Cheers!

thats great ,because i am making tons of 3d parts my self ,make sure in order to get the details to smaller scale more pronounced you need to up the scale of the details a bit ,for example the bolts make them bigger !

Brilliant I suspect this would only be practical with a good quality SLA printer though rather than your run of the mill FDM Still amazing how quickly you can set everything up for that level of quality

Nice to see you back my friend Is the software similar to AutoCAD? For 3D printing the higher the micron value the better the resolution? ¥r the other way around?
Thank you, Peri. The break was too long but several "life events" kept me from doing too much the last several months. The software is very similar but really easy to use. It's a NURBs based program vs. the Polygon based ones that are used for graphic design and CGI. I'll let you google and read up on that...haha. But yes, the lower the micron setting, the smaller the step height between layers as the print head moves up and down curing each successive layer in the build. The resolution can be increased by going to a great number of pixels on the LCD. They now have 4K printers that are pretty reasonable and even a slightly pricier 8K one that I saw the other day.
Very interesting, it looks like you could do a large variety of parts, maybe pilots and instrument panels? How sturdy are the parts, are they as strong as standard parts cut off the sprue in the kit. Actually the cost you reference is not that bad, when you compare current kit cost running between 150- 200 dollars for large scale and a out 50 for 1/48th. Pretty good ROI. Just retired and getting back into modeling - think I'd better subscribe as I m getting up to speed on materials and kits after a long absence.
You can print whatever you can design (or download from design houses). Like RiverRock says, parts are strong, just like any other resin parts. Cost isn't bad at all given all that can be done with it. I've had great ROI on mine by selling many of my printed parts. Hope you subscribed. Appreciate it and the feedback! New thought, NASA sends the plans for new tools to the ISS, where they print out custom designed tools on a 3D printer. I think 2022 just got got a little more interesting

Books like aviation archives are relatively inexpensive and available on eBay. Up-ship and secret projects forum are online sites that have some good reference material. Hope this helps.
Thanks. There are a couple of ways to do that. You can change the view by clicking right, left, front, back, etc using those buttons on the lower left of the program. Or you can select the object, select the transform, then rotate, then rotate around axis feature. Click the center of the object and then drag the mouse straight up and click to select a vertical rotation axis. Then in the command box in the upper right, Input a rotation angle of 90 degrees and it will rotate to face you. If you have any more questions, just let me know. Hope this helps.
Was first I've seen someone using MOI's software. Looks as easy as have heard. Am curious if you have any thoughts on using it in Naval kits for Anti-aircraft platforms that tend to be the wrong shape etc. Can't see it being too dissimilar. As a common example, Fletcher class destroyers AA platforms varied, depending on refits and wheel houses being open or closed. Am sure bit of learning the software, appreciate sharing your experience in this video. Well done with the pace and timing.
Thanks for the comments. I think this software is well suited for making these type of structures. A quick search online shows that others have already modeled up some gun batteries in various scales (not sure exactly which comes you are looking for). But if you have good references, MOI is very easy to use with those references to create those platforms you are looking for. I don't have a 3D printer (yet) but the thing that worries me is not the printing aspect but the process of developing the object(s) as you demonstrated.....obviously a knowledge I don't possess and following your demo, although informative, to an IT novice, I found hard to follow (not the way you presented but my lack of computing know how). I guess that practice makes perfect.
It took me forever to dip my toe in the pool too. I didn't buy a printer for a long time given my fear and inability of the design side. I downloaded the free 90 day trial of MOI and found it to be far easier than all the other programs I tried an failed at. Within about 2 weeks I felt really proficient, at least enough to commit to a lifetime license purchase. I continue to learn new things as I go but I don't think you'll find an easier way to get into 3D design. Give it a try, it's free. I just downloaded it and then started to use it by following along with various tutorials I found on UA-cam.
@@FlyingSModels Thank you for your advice...much appreciated. I guess that getting started is the biggest hurdle so I'll take your advice and download the 90 day free trial of MOI to see how I go. I am aware that you can download pre-designed parts and accessories for kits but they don't always apply to the kits we own. It also defeats the purpose of having a 3D printer and creating the parts exactly required without purchasing from kit companies (as I do at the moment). Thanks again for your advice...see how I go

I can afford the printer but I am not familiar with the file software it looks like you have to have a backround in design software. Although I hear there are sites were files can be downloaded.
Appreciate the feedback. I don't have a background in design but have been teaching myself along the way. There are numerous sites where you can download files to print, though, so don't be afraid to pick up a printer and give it a try.

Have you never had a resin part before? They are stronger and better than the kit.

I have a 1/32 scale T-154 that I want to convert to a Mistel configuration. Can you design that?

The biggest problem is to learn MOI and it functions.
I actually found it much easier to learn that most of the others.
