  • The conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has intensified, with M23 rebels, allegedly backed by Rwanda, seizing key territories, including parts of Goma. South African, Malawian, and Uruguayan peacekeepers have lost their lives, and protests have erupted in Kinshasa against countries accused of supporting Rwanda. The UN has raised concerns over Rwanda’s use of advanced weaponry, while MONUSCO’s role in the crisis is under scrutiny. Experts Maurice Carney, Executive Director of Friends of the Congo; Nixon Katembo, Analyst for Great Lakes & East Africa; Mametlwe Sebei, President General of the Industries Workers Union of SA; and Zama Ntshona, National Spokesperson for the African Transformation Movement, provide critical insights on the growing crisis and its regional implications.
