I skated competitively as a kid and quit at 17. I had all of my doubles but was very burned out. I'm 43 now and back on the ice. It's insane! My center of gravity is so different now. I want to just be able to dance around the ice and do some decent spins. Thankfully I've been active and fit my whole life but this is a whole different thing. Love your vids:)
I’m also a figure skater I just had a competition and it’s good to stretch so you can do the sit spin into doing a leg hold also your axels are really good you know only so many people can do it I have a few more sessions till I do triple axel class so keep on trying you will get there
I'm gonna be honest, but I admire you, Cathy! Doing intense figure skating and working in consulting (which is already hard in itself) is definitely something admirable. I'm a Chinese American woman that's one year older than you and I also work in corporate, but I have a hard time getting up early, so I practice in the evenings with many of the teenagers at my rink. Of course, I will have to learn how to get up early eventually too if I want to advance further as a figure skater. I don't skate every day like you, but on days when I don't skate, I do off-ice training in the form of ballet classes, yoga, and pilates after work. I do volunteer work outside of skating, so that can make it hard to balance in addition to work, skating, spending time with friends and family, and other hobbies. But you do everything so well. I used to be more introverted, but I've become a lot more outgoing over the last few years.
Aww thank you so much for your sweet note! I really appreciate- you seem so dedicated to your own journey and it's truly inspiring to see more people doing the same things out there! Keep going at it and wish you the best of luck on your journey! Keep us all updated!
tip for getting the sit to y spin ( 6:42 ) when you’re at home doing nothing just lay in your split and try to press your body to your front leg. (it’s very painful at first but eventually it will stop) you should also do the pike stretch. i love doing these stretches bc i can just watch youtube while doing them lol 😭 oh and you should do leg hold to sit to leg hold to sit off ice as much as possible! having a slight oversplit will help sm aswell, just put your foot up on something low to the ground. your sit is amazing i think you could get this spin someday!!
@@aquamarine_ocean thank you so much for the advice! Yes yes a lot of stretching needed! And totally agree haha I also watch UA-cam when I do these stretches 😂 thanks for the encouragement! 🫶🏼
Cool video. Great seeing my coaches as well. 6:00 wake up? I wish!!! I'm already on the subway, changing from a local train to an express. You reminded me that 1) I have NO work/life balance; 2) I need to do a separate workout other than skating; 3) I need to stretch because my sit spin isn't low enough to count right now; 4) I must resume my off-ice training (jumps and the spinner); I should try intermittent fasting (so hard when you work from home); 5) I have to get to bed earlier (skated on 4 hours of sleep last session). Thanks for the video. I'm off to make some improvements. 😊
@@cathydinggno no it’s actually very good for working on. It’s a very realistic goal that y could def achieve with a lil but more practice! I don’t wanna be braggadocious but I have some triples and my weakness was spins. But with more balance and strengthening workouts, my spins have greatly improved to the point where I got my first +4 GOE on my level 4 spins!! (Finally 😅)
i do inline figure skating and let me tell you, spins are a nightmare!! back camels are terrifying bc if you fall it will hurt and there is nothing that you can do to help it
Wow, I don't know how you do it all. I envy your time management skills. Your sports bra/bralette is so cute. Do you mind sharing where you got it from? xx
we have a similar level, ur a bit better than me. i never dreamed that i coul eventually do skating as a job! how do u do that? is it about price money from competitions? or more than that

I want to know how you did the handheld video of the spin!
Great question haha- I literally just held my phone in my hand while spinning! It was quite the experience, but we made it happen
