And they also attacked Finland and didn't do so well, but fought the defensive war much better (seems like they don't like attacking someone that didn't attack them).

@@Scar626 I hope that you are correct about "they {the Russian population} don't like attacking someone that didn't attack them". If that is so, there may be some push-back from various areas of the population. Particularly because the population appear to becoming more aware of the deaths and destruction occurring in Ukraine (see "1420" channel). If the WAR, waged by Russia against Ukraine, looks as though it may come into their own lounge-rooms physically, as distinct from through their TV's, there may be some resistance develop.

It's sickening to hear that Russia is complaining that Ukraine is attacking them with small drones that I compare it to mosquitos while they are attacking Ukraine with their sophisticated missiles and drones like no other day. They are raining Ukraine with those unstoppable and powerful missiles. If not for the supply from the west with air defense Ukrainian people will be terrified every day, look at those children running outside looking for cover in the train station to avoid being hit by those bomb. This is not happening in Moscow yet.

Many Ukranians (most?) must have hatred, and steel, in their hearts when they think about Russia.
To be honest many Ukranians must have hatred in their hearts for the Iranian regime as well. Not only has Iran supplied Shaheed drones they have supplied operators, at least in the early days, who operated from occupied Ukranian soil. Iran therefore was, and is an active part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the killing of Ukranian men, women and children. That, it seems to me, make the Iranian regime, or some members of it, war criminals and I hope the international criminal court will name Iranians as suspected war criminals as well as Russians.
The whole Iranian regime are also war criminals. There is no doubt about it. It's not just their stance in the war between Russia and Ukraine, but also Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and internal with women wanting to take off their veils. Iran is facing the very real possibility of war with Afghanistan's Taliban Army right now over water, so any concern with them may be moot. Consider that many of the Taliban are both murderous thugs and veterans with experience fighting the Afghan National Army and Coalition Forces. They also have a tremendous amount of war materials available with which to fight the Iranians. The Iranians might be better equipped, but their nation hasn't had to fight a major war since the 1980's while many of the Taliban were blooded fighting over the last twenty years.

Note on Russia's massive defensive network: Wars are never won by defense. He who defends everything defends nothing.
I take issue with Dr Hall's opinion that "should the Ukraine offensive not achieve much, then (words to the effect that land will be ceded to Russia)". Principled minds want the Russians out of all of Crimea. Should western support wane, the liberation of occupied lands will transition to an insurgency. Insurgencies are always politically risky since they can result in groups like the Taliban having effective control over liberated territories. It's best to keep increasing military aid to Ukraine regardless of this offensive's outcome.

Agreed! And we should lift the ban on the use of Western weapons in Russia itself. It's ridiculous, proposterous and downright criminal not to let Ukraine defend itself with full power, totally unhibited. The constant whining about 'red lines' and 'escalation' needs to stop also. The Russians are only talking about these things because we do, just like with the 'nuclear option'. They are parroting us, because they see it upsets us. Times Radio is one of these culprits. The defences erected in the south by the Russians are a waste of time. If anything they demonstrate the extent of corruption and incompetence in the Russian leadership, both civil and military -- somebody saw them coming and made a few roubles by selling them a pup.
The so-called "dragons teeth" can be removed by the simple expedient of putting a bulldozer blade on the front of an armoured vehicle and engaging first gear; minefields don't have to be totally cleared, all that's needed is a to clear a pathway; and as for those trenches on the Crimean coast, that's just Russia saving Ukraine the trouble of having to bury all those dead Orcs. Once the Ukrainians sever the resupply lines, the Russians are done.
Apparently a lot of the dragons teeth just crumble when pushed, very poor quality. Typical of the corruption of the Orc's system.
Those aren't the Russian defenses that matter much. GPS jamming capability, EW, S400 SAMs, a relatively intact airforce, mean much more.
@@SkyRiver1 the relatively intact VKS [RU air force] is the only thing you list that could stop the counterattack and they will face Patriot systems if they try it.
They aren't designed to stop, they're designed to slow, you pre-soght your artillery and once they slow down you scrap them.ditto minefields are primarily area denial weapons, clear a path and set up a nice narrow target for hidden machine guns

the Ukrainian counteroffensive started a few weeks ago on the flanks of the Russians in Bakhmut and ended in defeat. It is basically over, and there are plans to launch a different, weaker offensive in the summer

@@abatesnz Moscow to Kharkiv is about 750km, even more from Kyiv . Even Kursk , which is well within Russia, is over 500km from Moscow. Who ever stated 300 miles (450km) as the distance from Ukraine to Moscow, got it wrong. It is nearly double that.

In 1987, Mathias Rust flew a 172 from Helsinki to Red Square. That's a shade over 1000km (600 miles). In an aircraft with the same speed range (80-100kts) but with a HUGE radar cross-section. A UAS launch inside Russia, flying fairly low could probably hit those targets.
He was an teenagae amatuer pilot, he landed near red square, but he was tracked by Russia all the way. They just didn't want to shoot him down.

The guy told you he didn't know right up front, but you insisted on him guessing.
What needs to be done is fly the drones over Russian cities. Instead of explosives have some with postcards with photos of the destruction Russia has caused and a question for the russians. This is what Putin has done to our country. We are brothers we just want OUR country back. Even if the drone is hit there is a good chances the postcards will be distributed in the air and drift down. I fear that this is just giving Putin credibility with the people

Behind Russian lines are no minefields. So the best Ukrainian Army can do is brake through the lines and make some behind the line pincer movements to annihilate the Russians.

The guy driving the truck that supposedly blew up the bridge lived and walked away, that would be impossible in the real world. The bridge was attacked by one of those submarine drones. The bridge deck was clearly lifted from an explosion underneath. One of those submarine drones washed up on the shores of Crimea a few days before the bridge explosion.

Yes.....visual evidence so supports explosion under the bridge....also huge delaay in rail repair and reduced weight llimit after repair indicates disruption of foundation by underwater explosion.
And you see a boat appear under the bridge before the explosion. Pretty obviously a vessel, not a vehicle.

Very incisive interview by a capable interviewer. Interesting observations about it being Putin's war, not Russia's war. That being the case, the KGB bratva will need to arrange the destruction of some large complex with attendant loss of life, like the Chechnyan ruse, to engage the urbanites.

The truck on the Crimean bridge was coming from Russia, not Crimea. It obviously had started on the incline to the truss section and the explosion occurred far behind it. So that is two things that he has wrong from the start.
Just to be sure, nobody knows who's responsible, right? How can they be reported as Ukraine's drones if no one knows?
After some highly effective assaults on military aircraft deep into Russia, this feels kind of amateuristic. Could it be some elaborate scheme of Putin to get rid of some high end officials without waiting on them to fall out of a window ?

It's worth noting that those Russian citizens that genuinely support Putin (which I believe to be a minority, the majority simply feel indifferent or helpless to oppose) do so because they believe him to be a strong leader that brings stability and security to Russia. That the regime is censoring reporting of these attacks (and indeed the extensive cover-up of the border incursions) perhaps shows a genuine concern that the veneer of Putin's reputation could slip very easily.

Ships destroyed trying to resupply. Long range rockets would handle that also. Ukraine just assaults or shells when, and where they want, making sure Russian forces have no Re supply, or sleep! Russians would have what they have on hand only, NO RE SUPPLY! Wait them out "Siege", before attacking weak, hungry Russians out of fuel. Partisans and spetsnaz attacking rear areas every night destroying any supply points. They can't move weapons systems they give up or die. Meanwhile a Coup is taking place in Moscow! Take 4 months to complete!

Ukraine I doubt would waste drones on non military targets. Likely they were targeting a nearby base and electronic counter measures resulted in drones going out of control. I would not put it past Putin to have orchestrated the attack in order to encourage enlistment. Putin threatening is a bit of a joke - he has been targeting civilians for ages.
Storm shadow is currently taking out major targets in the southern hinterlands. Next glsdb will rain down on smaller targets in the same area. Thirdly the 155mm artillery will start bombarding the trenches just before the attack. The russians will be soft by then.
Meanwhile Russia will run out of targets before they run out of shells, missiles and drones......
