      Yes, it is different on the Lancer. This is a 1.5 engine, the Lancer got a 2.0 engine. so yea
      Hopefully I will get to change the Timing belt on a Lancer.
      ps. If I were you, and with no tools/equipments, I would not attempt to change it
      cheers

  • @Rodneyzoom
    @Rodneyzoom 9 років тому +1

    O lol but yes the reluctor blades are located behind your camshaft sprocket the 2 brass lookin blades. on the right of the sprocket the a sensor that's the cps when the car is crank the blades spin and go thru the cps which tells the car ok we are TDC go and ahead and fire up. If the cps is faulty you will get no spark so doesn't matter how many times the timing is set also you did a great job putting everything together before cranking because the hermonic balancer or crankshaft pulley has to be on for the blades to position correctly or the blades could hit the cps and your car with be without fire. I'm so used to setting timing to my eclipse. I usually set timing turn it over if it fires up put everything together you're done if not go back and try again the mirage is a different when. It comes to the timing

    Just a note of wisdom for you on a timing belt replacement.If you have not done this yet,it is smart to change the camshaft oil seal and crankshaft flywheel oil seal when you are already there with the parts exposed than to do the oil seal change later down the road when they leak oil.

    Great video, but I think theres an error on how you have done the timing belt, the belt can go on anyway there was no need to mark it you should of marked the camshaft sprocket against the engine as a set point, if the sprocket moved the valves will be out of position resulting in the engine damage you mentioned earlier on of the video.

    • @darthvanzer
      @darthvanzer 10 років тому +2

      I agree with you, also there is already marks on the cam shaft and the head for timing and on the crank shaft and block. Great job but you never know the belt could've slipped and doing it that way would of changed nothing.

    Just curious why didn't you align the crank to top dead center? I am just worried that the pulley might could have jumped while you were taking the old belt out. I'm still new to changing timing belt, but your opinion would help my mind clear. Thank YOU! more power to your channel.

    I'm watching your video to understand how I ensure I got the timing right. I'm replacing the timing belt on a 91 Lancer. Why is it important to mark the belt and the sprockets, shouldn't it be enough for the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets to align with their respective marks on the engine block? Thanks for your videos.

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  2 місяці тому

      @user-zf4uz3hy8z It is already enough for the sprockets to align with their marks. I just don't bother to adjust the sprockets to align with their marks, just paint and done.

    Hi, Thanks for this very useful video. I have a water pump question. Is it really necessary to replace the water pump? The one you removed looked absolutely fine. I am changing all belts including the timing belt on 2000 model Lancer with a 4G15 engine with 100,000 km on the odo and I am being advised to not change the water pump as it’s the original Japanese part and they last a long time. What is your view?

    • @DarkDragonWing

      If it works, don't replace it. Especially pretty low mileage.

    hi I'm planning on changing the timing belt on my car and I have a ?. before I go on first I want to say thanks for all the great videos I've learned a lot from you and I didn't know nothing at all about cars now I'm not scared to do things on my own car so thanks a lot .so now for the ? when you do those marks with the white paint what exactly are you marking I want to know what exactly to mark because I've read that if you don't put the timing belt on correctly you can mess up the whole timing and the engine and be very sorry and of course I don't want that so can you explain it more to me and let me know exactly what to mark. thanks again

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  9 років тому

      Nava Rodriguez Thanks! At 5:59 I marked the timing belt and the pulleys. Then I take the timing belt off. At 8:41
      I matched the new timing belt to the old timing belt and marked the new
      timing accordingly. Finally, I put the new timing belt on by matching
      the marks on the pulleys. Cheers

    hi ! thanx again for your videos last time that i asked something was the trouble that i was having with the poor horse power and too much fuel consumed in my lancer and checking out i discovered that the problem was one ignition coil wich i already ordered . see the first vidio was to change both lower arms, second was to change front and rear struts
    and now i'm about to replace the water pump and there comes the question
    what i'm watching is that you are replacing the water pump on a mirage it is the same water pump for 2003 lancer es ?
    do you have a brand name wich fits better on my lancer???? thanx

    • @DarkDragonWing

      +isamel valens Hi. Oh I think your 2003 Lancer ES has a 2.0L engine. You can watch this video for reference: ua-cam.com/video/T__PVmqXf6g/v-deo.html
      If you are gonna replace the water pump, you should replace the belts too. Here is a complete set: www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-Lancer-02-07-2-0L-SOHC-Timing-Belt-Tensioner-Seals-Water-Pump-Kit-/360852687802?fits=Year%3A2003|Model%3ALancer|Submodel%3AES&hash=item54047f0bba&vxp=mtr

    I have a BYD F3 car with a Mitsubishi 4G15S engine. I replaced the timing belt in 2020, and after driving for 30,000 kilometers, the timing belt broke in April 2022 while I was on the highway. I had to tow the car to a repair shop, and the engine valves were damaged. It cost me a lot of money to get it fixed. Until now, I still can't understand why the new timing belt broke.

    Hi man,
    I am thinking of getting 4g15 DOHC 16V, instead of my current SOHC 8V, do you think it is a good idea?, I read some articles on it, but I am not sure if it will make much difference for me, please let me know if you have any comments. thank you :)

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  10 років тому

      I think SOHC 8V is bigger than 4g15, that means SOHC 8V is more powerful.

    hey bud i was wondering if you could help me out here, my father was changing the waterpump on a 4g15DOHC (dual cam version) and long story short he didn't mark anything and the belt and timing is not completely off
    we found the timing marks on the cam sprockets itself but i can't seem to find the markings on the engine to line it up, you got any idea where it is?

    Hey man so is the water pump easy to get to and replace on a mirage? Mine is a 98

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  9 років тому

      Drew Cobain If you're gonna replace water pump, you should replace all the belts too. Yes, it is easy to replace the pump. Just make sure to clean the surface good and I only use the gasket, and I use some grease just to make sure it stays inplace when I put the pump back in. If you also wanna use sealant that is made for water pump along with the gasket, it would be ok too.

      @DarkDragonWing  9 років тому

      Kenick Willie If the water is green ,then it's the water pump. Check engine can be checked with this tool: www.amazon.com/Autel-MaxiScan-MS310-Diagnostic-Vehicles/dp/B005KOZ25Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

      You want to change the timing belt, other belts, and water pump on your 1.8l?
      Here buy this kit (you might not use everything in the kit, but it is a good deal): www.ebay.com/itm/Timing-Belt-Water-Pump-tensioner-GASKETS-Kit-Mitsubishi-Mirage-1997-2002-1-8L-/360792603162?fits=Model%3AMirage|Engine+-+Liter_Display%3A1.8L&hash=item5400ea3a1a&vxp=mtr

    How can I send you a video showing a problem I have with my Mirage 2001? When I start the engine and I retired the terminal cable of the battery, the car try to turn off or run in low charge, the pannel lights, radio, and external lights slowly gets low and low like is loosing power. I dont know if is a Relay, electrical cables, computer or is out of time.

      Hi. It looks like you need a new alternator.

    • @joshspanic
      @joshspanic 6 років тому

      DarkDragonWing
      I bought it, along with a new battery. When I turn on the car and the battery terminal is removed, the panel light turns off, the panel's backlights start to blink, the radio stops ringing and starts blinking as well. only when I accelerate, it stabilizes but once I stop accelerating it after several seconds the radio stops playing music and next to the panel they continue blinking. I have a video, could I send it to an email?

    My mirage de 2000 evaporates water and coolant you think I might need a new engine water pump or what could it be ??

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  10 років тому +1

      Hmm, do you see any leaks? If not, then you might need a new pump. I think because the water is not moving so it got hot and boiled.
      OR.. worst case would be that the coolant leaks into the cylinders and burn out that way.
      Just what I think. cheers

      Well today I found that some pipe line below the throttle body has a pine hole and water comes out through there , but also I think there might be another one because more water come out from below and it is not from where the water pump is ...
