    I moved from lego to metal earth... Started running out of room in the curio! Lol I've got 9 models completed so far and I've revised one model in particular.. These drive my ocd insane but they are so beautiful.. I think I'm never doing it right because I always see gaps etc.. Seeing someone else build makes me feel better. You're really good at this thank you for the videos they have helped me more than you could imagine!

    I know how involved this build is, there is a lot of trying and retrying and a little bit of luck and a lot of focus ... started doling these kits around 10+ yrs ago ... I've recently built 2 'USS MISSOURI' ... every bit as busy a build as what your doing there ... it is a 2 piece hull ... I have shelves full of these and I keep giving them away to people who like them ... I've done many but the most challenging are the boats/destroyers and bombers small fighter planes... tho my collection is rather diversified it keeps shrinking as well .... GOOD JOB BROTHER

    Began the Arizona a few days ago, patience is a virtue. I am finding all the same difficuties, and your tips should prove useful. Particularly like the idea of twisting tabs and then coming back to flatten. Big problem for me with tabs is the light reflection making seeing them difficult as they come close together.Interested in building the village on the hill as I do something similar with soapstone which is a soft stone amenable to carving with razor knives,files and a multitude of other tools, hoping it will go together a bit easier.

      Hello,I'm John, I very recently bought this kit not realizing it's difficulty level. Although I'm a model builder of 50+ years,never built anything like this.I do have a couple of questions.First are the metal parts fragile?I've looked at them,they do look fragile.2ndly,should I attempt a simpler metal model first?

    The USS Arizona was sank on December 7, 1941 during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The USS NC was at Pearl Harbor prior to the attack. The NC located in Wilmington, NC as a floating museum, was the most decorated war ship of the pacific campaign during the Second World War!

    Just finished one of these today, it was my first ever model like this. In the very first step, I broke a part and almost gave up, but with some glue and perseverance, I managed to finish the model with nothing more than some tweezers.

      Get a tool kit, it’s a game changer, especially for the rounded parts. I bought mine on Amazon for $27. Also bought a magnifying lighted headset at Hobby Lobby. The Arizona is my 2nd kit, did the P51 Mustang using just tweezers and a needle nose pliers I had in the house and it looks nice, it doesn’t look as good as the battleship.

    I'm a fellow Metal Earth model builder and I've done quite a few over the past 2-3 years. The main issue I had with the Arizona was one of the last steps where you attach the sides of the hull to the main deck. They wrap around the deck _TOO TIGHTLY_ and it causes the deck to "warp" in an upwards position. The whole thing ends up looking curved (like a banana or Samurai sword). I saw another example at a model show and it suffered from the same problem, so I knew it wasn't just me. It looks like you experienced the same thing too. I'm disappointed in the manufacturer for not fixing this issue before they released it.

    This will be my 14th Metal Earth model, but peice 11 has me nervous. Could be why there's a backup. I know it's been a while, but any advice before I start? You're videos have been fantastic and gave me the confidence to start doing these. Thank you!

    Well, I started it this morn and never made past the first stage and broke the bends twice. So I put it way for now. Can't think of how I can fix the one I broke. :-(

      Solder! Not that California lead free silver solder junk, that stuff doesn't like to stick! Use a tin/lead mix solder. 60% Tin/40% lead mix is most common, but 63/37% gives the solder a slightly lower melting point than 60/40 solder and it also sets/hardens quicker which most people find easier to work with, you don't have to wait as long for the parts to solidy join. Then you can file or sand the joint down so it's smooth.

    Do you think the stands are necessary at the bottom of the ship for it to sit upright? I love these models and have a couple of the aircraft, but I really don't like the stands.

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  8 років тому +1

      masterfox72 with this model the propellers in the back would keep it from sitting flat without the stand. you could create some sort of stand or platform of your own. You can use magnets to hold the model in place.

    I just tossed mine out to trash. Both masts broke at the bend points when I was installing the radar shacks (or whatever those two structures were). I am pretty disappointed, almost an hour in to the model making and now its all wasted time. Definitely will not get another one of those models again. Plastic might be less "cool" but its harder for the Chinese factory to mess it up to a point where its garbage.
