They now have the option of 4 half pans which are quadruple divided, so max of 16 colors. I never wanted only 6 colors but immediately ordered it when I saw I can do 16! The other option is putting a jump ring on the little loop and hanging it around your neck on a lanyard. I crocheted myself one. Portable Painter has also made new pans that fit in the brush slot of the original palette to bring it up to 18. I’ve also done that.
Love my micro palatte. It is fill with DS 6 color kit. I walk around with mine all the time. I carry a Small Altoids as well with sap green ,Sepia, burnt umber, new gamoage, moonstone? , green Apitite genuine.
I love this micro palette. The mixing space is great for such a small palette. I really enjoy mine. I augmented it with a tiny altoids tin with 5 more colors.
i half expect this portable painter to have a bluetooth connection that lets you know when you're running low on a color. Great review lemi it was super informative and the drawing looks cool!
Great review as always, and I appreciate your honesty. I agree the water cup is more an emergency situation deal, but it's nice to have that option. Beautiful portrait too btw!
All these years and I never realized you uploaded videos on your channel! Fixed it. Subscribed and now I'm binging. 8D Why did you stop uploading? Everything okay? :< Also thank you. 8'D! You're too kind!
@@LemiaCrescent Oh lol, thanks for checking out my little channel :P You were one of the big people to inspire me for making my own channel after posting to your breakfast club competition many years ago (username was onyana back then). I stopped uploading when I moved back to Australia early 2020 for a range of reasons. Partly from depression, partly from the effort involved, and partly due to setting up my new life back in Oz. I hope my old videos haven't bored you too much! It's great to see you posting again!
I just love your enthusiasm and the fact that you painted something with the palette to review it. Most folks talk about it when what I want to see is how it is used practically. I have both of these abs love to paint when traveling with them! It is so easy to spend time waiting when I have time to kill just have this out of my bag.
i think a great idea for the water cup thing would be to put a small sponge or paper towel in there so you can wipe off the color from your paint brush or water pen brush.
I love this little palette. By the way, the Daniel Smith essential color set is a perfect set of 6 primaries (warm and cool versions of each) that will fit perfectly in the six pans and let you mix just about every color you wish. Have you put a taller cup/ container that would fit in the large "water compartment". Just thought of that this moment😊 I'm combining those paints and this palette as travel gifts for my WC painting friends! The large classic palette by this company is fabulous too! I love the way that one fits on my knee too. Good thorough review and very nice painting by the way!
They say in their description that the "box" is meant for either water or mixing space. So the ridges are intentionally there to make it more useful for mixing. I usually just have 2 tiny soy sauce cups for water so I use it for mixing, just because it's connected to the palette and I like to have the whole thing in my hand while I paint so I'd definitely just slosh water absolutely everywhere if I tried to keep water in it.
thanks! just got this palette from local art store and agree about using the water side for water only if you're stationary. I'm curious about what 6 colors you chose. I have Daniel Smith Hansa Yellow Med, French Ultramarine, Pyrrole Red, and Michael Harding Yellow Ochre, Cinquasia Maroon, and Vivid Blue.
Fantastic review! :D I got this for Christmas and have been eager to try it out, but haven't had the opportunity to yet x'D But it's nice to hear your thoughts on it. I felt very similar, despite not having used it yet. It does seem like a really great palette, and I do agree that I wouldn't put water in it, it's definitely too shallow, haha. Gorgeous portrait too x3
I have this little micro palette (as well as the classic) with a set of warm and cool primaries (Daniel Smith essentials). What 6 color might you include? I'm curious.... I think would rather have 1 set of primaries wth sap green and 2 more convenience colors, but have not tried it out. Clipping it to your sketchbook was a great idea! I've also seen 2 of these little palettes connected for a set of 12 colors. Thanks for the great review.
it really really lays flat? I never used my tin palette I bought to mix paints because I use it inside and I have a plastic palette and I wanted to keep it clean but I recently took notice that the lids end at an angle and now I wish I had noticed before buying it lol
I'm always down for a good ghetto pallet, lol, those are totally awesome if you wanna make your own instead, this is just something that was designed in an extremely cool way for those who can and want to spend money on that sort of thing, the type of choices they made were really well thought out and the business works really hard to make something that people might like using instead of an altoids tin.
This is convienent I DIYed an altoids cases but this is so much more convenient because it has a water well as well. So now instead of carrying my altoid tin, collapsible cup, rag, sketchbook, paints, pencil, and gouache I only carry this micro palette, sketchbook, and travel brushes. It all fits in a sand which bag

Your reviews are always so helpful and informative, Lemi! the way you use watercolors is soooo cool, I love the painting so much!

This is amazing thank you. The clip at the back slides between your sketch book pages that has been clipped together. X

You’ve got interesting brushes (the flats and travel)…. and nice painting!

Just got mine - and BTW, I love the little pouch too!
Looks cute! It's nice to see you posting again. I hope you can keep posting.
I like how they give you empty pans so if u use paint from like tubes like I do u could take the paint from those too. V nice
does seem like a well designed little palette, very handy size
I saw someone clip it to their sketchbook using a binder clip but attaching it by the ring so you don’t loose mixing area

What brand of brushes are you using? Where did you buy them?
Your paint is awesome
DUDE you could use a water brush and use the water cup to hold a towel or rag or whatever to clean it off img

I love that palette! It's so nice to have the deep wells on the sides. :>

Hi, what do you think about mixing colours in a plastic palette instead than a aluminium one? Thx for your attention

A bit expensive for a plastic case... altoids tin with sprayed with white enamel and small metal water cup attached for $5!
You also pay for research, design, manufacturing, and keeping a small business in business. I bought the original and it is an amazing product.
@@aartadventure Sure.. I get all that.. and I'm happy to support if I needed a tiny palette like that.
