One thing I absolutely love about our country, is its birds! Such a great variety. Love most of those ones you showed. The bin chicken I think must have been when God was having a weird and off moment . . . . . .hahahahha. Thanks for sharing Duade. I always stop to try and find the black cockies when I hear their call. Subtley different with the different species in different places, but I love hearing them, and get excited when I see them.

We have Galahs, Kookaburras, Rainbow Lorikeets, Gang Gang Cockatoos, Lapwings, Magpies, occasional Sulphur Breasted Cockatoos across the road at Wattle Park in Melbourne and if we drive a few kms to our local Waste Transfer Centre there are usually a hundred Bin Chickens.
a good collection of iconic birds. My favorite iconic bird is the black cockatoo and I am still trying to get a reasonable shot of it. Keep up the great work.
Awesome shots and video, as always... It's always tough to name a few favorites when you have all these beautiful birds... but from the photos I have seen so far from Australia, I love Australian King parrots, Crimson Rosella, Eastern/ Western Rosella, apart from some you have already shown in this video... I hope to get to visit Australia and photograph some these!!!

I have some of those birds on my place but I was a little disappointed that only one raptor, the wedgie, was included. I would love to see you take some photos of such as the nankeen kestrel, the sea eagle or Black-shouldered kite. Some of the smaller hawks are pretty good too.
Fabulous shots Duade! I'd love to get one of the Major Mitchel. The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo and the Regent Bower Bird, could also have been included but I guess you could go on and on as there are so many amazing species. To get a Cockatoo with its crest up you only need to come to Brisbane...we have them in the garden destroying the Olyiander Tree!! They love the seeds. Thanks for this terrific video.

Thetes a few birds there that we don't get in Qld like the splendid fairy wren..beautiful birds..we have the superb fairy wrens here..such beautiful colours.
Guessing you're near Brisbane, since Superb Fairywrens don't get much further north, but if you head about 5 or more hours west, you start getting into Splendid Fairy Wren habitat. Once you start getting around St. George, they start becoming relatively populous. Hope that helps if you're looking to photograph them.
Planning on doing a tour of Australia later this year( covid-pending), and must say as much studying as I've been doing for a couple of years now, I still learned some things. So many birds, every fairywren, the chats, Nullarbor Quailthrush, all the parrots, both striking and subtle in their own way, spinifex pigeon, and fruit-doves; I think your selection was both representative and alluring, and will help instill wonder at the birds foreigners may not have heard of.
Thanks, yes the variety of birds we have is crazy. The only tip I can give you is Australia is huge and the birds are very spread out and some are nomadic and very hard to locate. Sometimes it's best to visit locations that have lots of species so you can maximize your time. Darwin, Cairns, Melbourne Treatment Plant, Perth, Gluepot. Good luck. @@Duade I'm preparing for that in the red centre, victorian mallee and inland top end. I've tried to give myself a few days in certain habitats, or at least whole entire days to cover good areas, but time and money only permit so much. Still I'm pretty happy with my 22-23 day plan to do Sydney, Melbourne-Victoria, red centre, Darwin and Cairns. I won't see everything and that is fine, so picking spots for several hoped for species in each area that also have a wide variety. I like the fact that I can use the train system to get to everywhere I want to go in Sydney, and scheduled some tours for some of the iconic spots( ocean road, phillip island and Uluru.) Thanks for the swift reply and also helping me prepare for a more realistic outlook on what I can expect. Cheers.
I have Rowland and Farrell's birdwatching megaspots which is considerably incomplete, and feel some birds listed for some sites are rare at best, and may have been more common years ago( White-fronted Chat must've really vanished from much of Coastal New South Wales some time ago, cats?) I also have Thomas and Thomas from the 90's which still seems to be relevant and is more helpful than the other book, also with tips I haven't seen anywhere else, like don't stand under a metallic starling colony tree, for fear of mites; good to know!

I have a couple of photos of the Tawny Frogmouth looking like a branch. I heard the Gan Gans up the top of Mt Buffalo yesterday, but could not spot them. I think my favourite bird would have to be the Major Mitchell Cockatoo. Keep up the good work Duade.
The magpie, masked lapwing and cape baron goose in nesting season.... Run for your life. They all make loud noises and want to hurt you. Don't look back. BUT, the scariest of all is the Cassowarie and it is beautiful and surprised it wasn't in the video. It's ancient and probably one of the most dangerous animals in Aus apart from the spiders and snakes and jelly fish and that one octopus and stone fish and the line up to get in the gates for the Bathurst 1000 or Summernats

I'd have loved to have taken your "worst" shots! I'm not new to bird photography on UA-cam but I've missed your channel until now. Great videos, a likeable, friendly and typically Aussie approach to things. Beautiful pictures by a good bloke.
Some gorgeous shots there Duade, (spell check always offers up Dude when I type your name). I am still to see a Gang-gang Cockatoo let alone photograph one. I didn't know about the different appearances of the Masked Lapwing which is really interesting and I had no idea that the Regent Honeyeater was so endangered. I would have thought the Cassowary would have made it into your top twenty Australian birds not just because they are so uniquely Australian but because they are so difficult to photograph well. I just thought as I was watching this that if you are looking for a subject for future videos, a video about how to create a photo book w2ould be of interest. So many photographers have hundreds of photographs that sit on a hard drive hardly ever shared.

Duade, I'm impressed with your knowledge of these birds. The Australian Magpie is literally EVERYWHERE, we have about 8-10 that visit the house every day, they tap on the window to get your attention. Also, I used to get King Parrots in my garden however, a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo came along, dwarfed the King Parrot and that showed how big this bird is, huge.... I did think of one bird you could have included, the Long Billed Corella which is often mistaken or assumed to be Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's when seen in flocks.

Every time I'd see a Willie Wagtail in the backyard I'd call it Senor Willie and ask him what he was up to. The best morning was when four rainbow lorikeets were hanging out in the front yard. They were quite the sight.
Been secretly feeding a wagtail at work. It sits in the rafters and gets loud as hell if I didn't put some seed out. I think they prefer insects though? Might be thinking of the magpie lark maybe. Also got a pair of Kestrels that live in the rafters of the wash bay. People get annoyed by the wagtail but it's awesome we have the birds here and they wonder why lol. Also got a magpie that only swoops one person cause they got aggressive at it swinging arms and stuff. It's hilarious.
Once again, a great video to watch! Australian biodiversity never stops amazing me. That 2nd image of Tawny Frogmouth, taken probably at night... did you use a flash and flash extender setup for that or it was a normal torch?

We are blessed with a great collection of bird species in Oz. I think the bin chicken is #2 in the ugly stakes, #1 has to be the bush chook :-)

Is there a good website to see an online source for Birds of Australia ? Like here in the US we have the Cornell Labs Birds (www.allaboutbirds.org ). Thank you
G'day Rajat, not that I am aware of, Birdlife has a resource on their website here birdlife.org.au/all-about-birds/australias-birds/find-a-bird, www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz/ is a wonderful resource and has many Australian birds also. The Australian Bird Guide field guide is the best if you are looking for a hard copy.

I love Australia and one if these days I'll definitely want to make a trip there. In fact I fell in love with photography at the scenic sunset on 2012 in bondi Beach. Do you run photography tours. You take great stunning pictures BTW.
