When Nightwish came to Winnipeg in March 2016 I stared into my wife’s eyes during the performance of this song. I’ll never forget that day.
This is such a great song and when you know it's the same Marko who sang Master Passion Greed you begin to realize the depth and breadth of this band's incredible range. Also, props to Troy's amazing guitar work here. Jesus, I miss Marko. He brought such an undeniable presence to the stage.
Right, and same for listening to this after hearing 'The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean'. It's really one of those moments; 'Wait, THAT'S MARKO!?! WAT?' lol
And then realizing he sings those high harmonies with Floor in Greatest Show on Earth. They are quite high for male singer.
All these, plus his STUNNING work on bass, stage presence, wits and sense of humor is why I still cannot get over his departure 🥺🥺😦😦

It's such a small song in comparison to the rest, but it's so breathtakingly beautiful.
It's easily one of my favourites.
This beautiful little song is originally made for the Finnish movie "Lieksa!" (Pölönen, 2007). This Wembley Arena 2015 live performance is excellent - and so touching. ⛄👍
Just to clarify, Tuomas and Marko wrote this song for that movie. So it's not taken from the movie.

What makes this version magical is the way it is pulled back, nothing is dominant except the song itself, Floor sings her harmonies so subtly, Marco is showing his fragile side singing, Troy playing the Ebow on the guitar rather than a hard guitar sound just adds something else. This song can have me n tears sometimes, it is a pure feeling
Yeah! My son is a pretty cool guitarist, & when I first heard Troy playing with the Ebow, I immediately went out and bought one for him to have a play around with. Haven't heard him use it yet, but if he does as well with it as he did with a cello bow I bought him, to play like Jimmy Page on Dazed & Confused, he'll be bloody brilliant. Must drive over & see him soon.

Thank you! This is a theme song for the movie "Lieksa". The official video is also like a "trailer" to the movie with Marko and Tuomas. Tuomas wrote this for the movie not for NW but he did not want to "put it under" his name only so he made it a NW song with Marko. And if you like to "cry" listen Marco (solo): "The Voice of My Father". Tissue alert!

Even though it's one of their shortest songs, it's one of my favourites. As per usual the live version is so much better than the studio version. Marko and Floor's voices together just make it so much more impactful. And Troy's guitar work is haunting. I love it.

The single version of Amaranth included the original soundtrack version. On the dvd single the original movie video.

Nightwish actually started with this kind of soft mood music...just check the demo in year 1996. Tuomas later added more heavy symphonic metal vibes. Tuomas made this for a movie Lieksa and without guitar and female voices.

Jacqueline, It's a beautiful song and it makes me tear up every time. It does make you think about how fragile life is and how you should tell people you love them while you can. I had the chills a split second before you looked at your arms and teared up as you did. The guitar sounds like its crying too which adds to the emotion then FLoor comes in with backing which completes the song. take care.
This song was made for a movie, not exactly a Nightwish song more like a Tuomas-Marko song, that they released as a B-side with the band.
If you want to really see how great of a vocalist and frontman Marko is you should check The Islander, from the Tampere show, you won't regret ;)

You will love "The Islander" performed in Tampere 2015. It is also from the 'Anette' era, when many new songs were written for Marko to sing lead. Again, there is a clear crescendo in the vocals whwn Marko and Floor sing together.

Hi Jacqueline, beautiful and enthusiastic reaction. Nightwish guys can really surprise you. Hard metal, operatic, delicate, what ever you can imagine, they'll play it. And every song is different with a story behind it. One of my favorite songs is Gethsemane (Buenos Aires 2019). Waiting for your next reaction.

As others have mentioned , 'The Islander ' is a must if you really want to hear Marko excel. Again with Floor providing the backup & harmonies to his voice. Your eyes will leak a bit when you react to that one.

Thank you, Jacqueline. So on the eve of winter, I’m not worried about the dryness of the eyes caused by the heating and room air. This band has a cure for it ... and I'm glad I'm aware of it. A beautiful song ... and by the way, the original arrangement has a violin instead of a guitar. Admittedly, that part played by Troy on guitar ... maybe even better.

The fact that the Vocals is not "perfect", gives it a more emotional touch over it. And I think if it was 100 % polished you wouldn't feel as connected to the song.

Nightwish played this song in Paris only couple weeks after the terrorist attack. And they were one of the few bands who didn't cancel their show.
With Nightwish, expect the unexpected.
No ego in the band at all, every one of them willing to step back to give the others a chance to shine.
Troy's guitar work is exquisite, and he really is a true master of every instrument he touches, and he also has a lovely voice, which we too rarely get to hear.
And Emppu is taking a complete break for this song - Troy is the master with the Ebow, so Emppu leaves the stage and the spotlight to him.
Marko's voice is fantastic, and as with all the members of Nightwish, he is amazingly empathic to the song he is singing, from this through "The Islander" to "Master Passion Greed". Missing him already :-( While other bass players can be found, his voice is unique and very special. That is irreplaceable.
Kai is perfect on drums, giving real expression to the instruments without dominating.
Floor's backing vocals are as sensitive and expressive as her lead, and of course, the ultimate example, Tuomas, the Metal Mozart. Composing mostly for others but largely taking a background role on stage.
Music is what feelings sound like.

In the original studio recording the part Troy plays was a violin, so what he did live was use an e-bow on the guitar and personally prefer it.
