Rivalries: The Battle of Alberta
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- This feels like a rivalry that is finally heating up again after being long dormant, but both teams have struggled to remain in contention. That has a lot to do with the heat cooling down between them.

Flames and Oilers...combustible.
I feel so robbed. The 2020 playoff B.O.A would’ve been a clash for the ages.
We all feel robbed of it :(
Edmonton needs to bring back those jerseys back full time. The current jerseys have too much orange.
For your lips to Katz' ears!
Mayureshan Muhunthan as someone who’s high school used orange as the main color for our away lacrosse jerseys. The Edmonton jerseys are way too damn much orange.
I personally like the orange jerseys, but I wish they were the alternates. The blue/orange one that Shannon is wearing is just so iconic and classic...those need to be the main home jerseys.
The oilers need to bring back the steel drop silver and blue loved them as a kid
The midnight navy kills the jersey. The classic royal blue is the team’s correct look.
The Gretzky jersey Shannon is wearing is so sharp...such a sweet jersey!!
Someone could troll and send him a Klima jersey with a 1990 Stanley Cup patch lol
The Goalie fight this year was a fun watch!
11:21 Vegas already has a rivalry with San Jose. My best guess is that Seattle will square off with Vancouver
Not gonna lie, the Sharks/Knights rivalry is probably one of my favorite ones in recent memory.
Also a Seattle/Vancouver rivalry sounds like it would be fun...Battle of the PNW.
Seattle and San Jose will have a good rivalry as well. Pacific Coast, lots of Northern Californians in the tech industry have moved to Seattle.
Jonathan Z Vegas and San Jose already have a rivalry so it’s probably going to be Vancouver
@@bleakvolcano9035 San Jose having a rivalry with Vegas doesn't exclude them from being rivals with Seattle as well
We were robbed of a Oilers Flames series this year.
💔
It’s sucks.
Not necessarily if playoffs happen.
@@kylexinye1990 It'll probably be a 1-24 fornat.
Sports Fanatic, wouldn’t it be a 9-24 format with 1-8 getting a bye? I thought that’s what was being considered. I’m just wondering
As a Flames fan I can say you were spot on with this video . I was a teen in the 80s when this started . Some of the best hockey I have seen was between these two teams . As you , I can hardly wait to see a playoff series again .
Great series Ottawa vs Pittsburgh 2017
FINALLY BOA!!!
Sweet. I was looking forward to this more than any non-Penguin rivalry.
This year's playoff match up would be fun to watch!
Not sure why Calgary gets an asterisk for the Smith goal. It's not like they won because of a bad call. The Oilers made a mistake. Plus, it was in game seven.
More of a Flames fan-Fluery and Macinnis were 2 of my fave players.
Seattle-Vancouver will be the new Vegas-San Jose, I hope they do a throwback game with the Metropolitans and Millionaires jersey
Been waiting for this one...
been waiting for this one
If the 2020 hadn't been so 2020, we probably would've had the first Oilers-Flames playoff matchup in 29 years. Damn.
Plus/minus can be a useful stat. You just have to take a minute and look around at the other stats to see what it really means.
IMO as an Englishman this is the closets the nhl has to a full on derby two big teams and the two most well known cities in the same region who absolutely despise each other, long live the battle of Alberta
After 31 Years, the Battle Of Alberta will happen again in the Cup Playoffs.
A big storied rivalry and battle for first overall picks
Yeah Baby Go Flames! Everyone let pray to the gods that within the next few years we get a Flames vs Oilers playoff series!
Both teams are relevant now and the rivalry will get rekindled even more. Wasn't for the damn virus now. Playoff series could of happened. Always had the dislike for Edmonton growing up with those playoff series but Vancouver is up there due to some recent playoff series that had dramatic finishes.
The Flames were Sham and Edmonton was Secretariat
I wouldn’t say 1-8 means no rivalries. It might be more difficult to get those matchups, and they might have to happen in later rounds, but if you get two good teams, they’re going to meet. Col/Det. Chi/Van. Phi/Pit.
Not that divisional playoffs are primarily about rivalries. It’s the time zone issue, at least in the West, and should you get a long standing rivalry out of that, that’s icing on the cake,
Some I'm looking forward to:
Rangers-Devils (6 playoff series, 2 conference finals)
Bruins-Flyers (4 playoff series in the 70s, including the SCF)
Maple Leafs-Red Wings (only 3 playoff series since expansion, but great ones in the Original 6 Era)
Devils-Flyers (5 playoff series,, 2 conference finals)
Rangers-Flyers (11 playoff series, 1 conference final)
Rangers-Capitals (9 playoff series, no conference finals but some fun ones!)
maybe a throwback to Canadiens-Nordiques as well?
This season is the best battle of alberta in recent history
This is the biggest crime that sports being canceled has created. Denying us the battle of Alberta in the playoffs
It never mattered whether or not there were matchups in the playoffs. Nearly any regular season game between these two seemed to have just a bit more of an edge to it. Nothing beats Mctavish ripping out Harvey's tongue.
Loving these rivalry videos , awesome job buddy
The 88 sweep by the Oilers was the most disappointing being a flames fan. I think the entire city was pump for a good long series.
Would you do the Habs vs. the Sens? As a Sens fan, I've hated them since I started watching hockey. Even my first ever live game the Habs beat us in OT. Been hating them since 2010. Of course I hate the Leafs, but every time its the Sens vs. Habs, I always want Ottawa to win, no matter what. Doesn't help when their fans fill half of your building either. At this point, I feel like I hate Montreal way more than the Leafs. Their fans always get on my nerves. Great video by the way. Appreciate the amount of content coming out.
So Devils Rangers or Devils Flyers next?
You missed the Oilers not making it last 2 years
It was one goal in an otherwise very close series. It isn't like Smith's gaffe cost them five goals. The series was very close anyway.
I'm not sure how much I really want to watch a video about my team scraping out a win once then getting killed five straight times (plus there are so many other rivalries you'd have to cover before it), but when you said a lopsided rivalry is still a rivalry my first thought was "Hey. Oilers v Stars counts as a rivalry. Maybe he'll do that someday."
We need Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver all being relevant to make it great.
Edmonton had home ice in 1988? Calgary had the President's trophy that year.
I think he made a mistake. Calgary did have home ice in 1988. Edmonton won games 1 and 2 in Calgary and they won games 3 and 4 in Edmonton
Thank god I didn’t live in the 80’s I can’t watch my team getting slapped by our rival for all these years
CANT THINK OF A NAME don’t worry we’re about to start bitching Calgary again now that both teams are good
@@brahmabull5018 Are you sure about that?
@@brahmabull5018 nah, those days are over pal
The 2020 series would’ve been epic. I can’t even imagine the fan atmosphere that could’ve been.
ThatGuy with Johnny being a ghost, gio slipping out of his prime, rittich overrated and terrible offence ? Yeah oil about to be bitch slapping some lames! Flames have Defence and that is it!!
Best part of this rivalry was watching Tkachuk kick Kassians ass.
I hope you continue to write fan fiction this good in the future
@Lonnor Mcsaitl 2997 and Kassian is the one whose face went red after Tkachuk smashed it in.
Guy Am I watch the fight again lol, tkachuk barely threw a punch! Turtle is a wimpy ass girl
@@travis2952 I watched the fight a hundred times, you should watch it to the end where Kassian has his ass on the ice and Tkachuk is smashing his goon face in.
im a canucks fan but i like all of these teams, i just want to see a canadian team win
How many Stanley Cups would the Flames have if not for those blasted Oilers?
Filip Nässén 3
Edmontons mascot should be an Edmontosaurus and Calgarys should be an Albertosaurus
This will happen again in the next 5 years I feel like we're close
Big question: Will the Oilers re-sign Mike Smith?
On a 1 year, yes.
2 year 2 million
michelle fuller I hope Smith signs with the oilers so that he can disappoint them just when the oilers. think they are going somewhere
Flames are the oilers little brother
Yeah, same with Vancouver for a little bit.
@@AryNaik Hell no. if anything Canucks are the little adopted brother of both Calgary and Edmonton.
Maybe this one should come with at least a PG14 rating...?
What's even hockey anymore
84-85 Oilers GOAT-really? Who voted? I'm sure one of the late 50's Canadiens teams, or the '76-'77 Canadiens would beg to differ.
www.nhl.com/fans/nhl-centennial/top-10-greatest-nhl-teams
Sorry but that's what was voted! Makes me proud too. Go Oilers!
I want that jersey!! #99
Oilers > Flames
Jesus, why does Calgary look so much like the worse off team/franchise? Edmonton beats the crap of them when it matters.
Ancient history.
Oh please. Calgary had some very good teams, they just had the bad luck of running into a dynasty.
