This Modrone Deck is really growing on me. The more I see the LoScarabeo deck, the more I’m liking it. ❤️
The Sun Card in the LoScarabeo is definitely a winner.

Thanks for doing these videos. And I agree, I’m really starting to like this deck a lot, lamination and all! The alien card is too funny. 🤪

Thanks for this Kasia! I absolutely agree - LoSc new cards are so much more in keeping with the rest of the deck. I am warming to the deck now as well 😁 I just dont look at the backs 🤣

Oh wow, now the Lo Scarabeo version really pops in comparison to the Cary Yale! Before I clicked on the video I was pretty convinced I would prefer the Cary Yale, but yeah, with the comparison it becomes clear how much work Lo Scarabeo put into retouching the cards and restoring them to their *shiny* glory :D I hope it's gonna be available outside of the kickstarter too.

I prefer the original "old" looking cards. I wish the Il Meneghello's version wasn't missing cards, but its still my favorite.

Thank you for the comparison, Kasia! :-) I agree and much prefer the LS Modrone over the USG Cary-Yale. Maybe it's not too bad -- as was your/our initial reaction... ;-) BTW: I noticed the replacement of the mirror in the virtue card too. But I can live with it. ^_^ I would have preferred the Devil without minions though. But most of the other re-imagined Trumps are gorgeous, especially the Star and the Sun!

Did they replaced the Mirror on Prudence with a Cup...? 😕 From my research, Charity (Love) is often depicted with a suckling child, and Prudence with a Mirror. But who knows. The "replacement" cards feel more consistent in this LS edition. Scapini could not help himself in the US Games' edition LOL. It is lovely to see LS aiming for how they might look like brand new!

Hi, and congrats for your review. Just a question anyway: I didn't understand a thing: the surface of Lo Scarabeo cards is uniformly smooth/plain as a normal “plasticky” pocker card? Or it has some relief texture? I'm asking this because I'd like to use the deck just to play cards-games, and I worry to waste the deck after various shuffles (and in this sense US Games' deck is exactly like a normal deck, perfect for playing). Thanks in advance for your answer.

Very good video, Lo scarabeo has won some points back on this deck lol. The faces do look nicer and the contrast is better. But I still think the gold is a bit over the top. I do understand there might have been gold on the original cards but I can't imagine they looked like this 500 years ago.

Honestly, I thought this deck was beautiful the moment I first went through the cards. In my opinion, it absolutely TROUNCES the US Games version for a variety of reasons. I'm SO glad I never bought the latter.
Luigi Scapini is a great artist (for example, his Medieval Scapini Tarot is beautiful), but his versions of the replacement cards absolutely DO NOT fit in with the pre-existing artwork in the Cary-Yale Visconti deck. The same was true of his renditions of the Tower and Devil cards in US Games' newest version of the Visconti-Sforza Pierpont Morgan Tarot. Both cards stuck out like a sore thumb from the rest of the Majors. Thankfully, the artist Lo Scarabeo chose for this project did a MUCH better job with the missing/additional cards, in regards to ensuring they fit in with the pre-existing art.
Concerning the gold and silver foil, yes, the original cards are VERY "blingy". I think Lo Scarabeo has done a wonderful job recreating them on a budget. I mean, let's face it, most of us only paid $40 for this deck. That's unbelievable when you think about the quality of the entire package you're getting for that price. The fact that they were able to recreate the surviving cards in their original, "hot off the press" form, while attempting to at least get close to their original "bling", AND hire an artist to create the missing/additional cards and have them actually MATCH the rest of the deck, all while keeping the price affordable, well that's something to be commended and nothing short of astonishing.
I'm sure some people are going to say they prefer US Games' version, because it contains all the defects and damage caused by aging, which is true to the deck's current condition. However, It takes a lot more effort to restore an image to it's original luster, than it does to simply copy it warts and all. Personally, if I'm going to have a reproduction, I'd much rather have the deck as it was when new, not as it is now with chunks of paint missing and edges worn away.
I do agree with you about the lamination. My preference would certainly have been a more matte finish. It's the only real disappointment I have with the deck. I wish the cards could have been similar in texture to another Lo Scarabeo deck, the Mantegna Tarot. The cards in that deck have a large amount of foil as well, but they're much less glossy in texture (especially the older edition), so I'm curious why Lo Scarabeo went with such a high gloss finish here.

Thank you for the great comment. The more I see Lo Scarabeo deck the more I like it but still can't use it as it is missing cards. And as much as Lo Scarabeo responded quickly to the first email about the missing cards, they have been silent since and I don't know when Im going to be able to use this deck :(

Great video! I have to agree with you, I much prefer the Lo Scarabeo version. So glad I didn't jump on the Modrone bandwagon....lol. TONS of love, Kasia!

I think Lo Scarabeo's version is so stunning. I definitely prefer it to the US Games. I do wish the cards were not so heavily laminated - especially the card backs. I wonder if a little bit of light sandpaper could remove some of the lamination from the back? hmmmmm
