Industries needed on Mars. He mentioned a “pizza joint / Mars bar” but left out hydro farming. Moon Base Alpha and Mars Colony One have to grow ALL their own food and recycle ALL their own waste! “Astronaut Farmer?” We need lots of you. Fortunately NASA is already growing plants in zero G on the ISS and the astronauts aboard are already eating them. If you are interested in hydroponics, farming, and being an astronaut start talking to NASA now and begin working on your qualifications, including masters and PhD(s) in plant biology, engineering, hydroponics, waste management , and related fields.

@@iamaduckquack I’m sure they are designing / scrapping / redesigning different interiors for different uses as we speak. By flight time, they will be ready, beginning with Artemis.
They actually plan on building three Starships per day!
As for the grinding on the nosecone, you have to grind metal before applying adhesive, or else it won't stick. Gives it more surface area to adhere to...

I've been watching since the tower construction, you guys are my go to channel for all things Starship.
0:21 I'm actually a little surprised that the areas of Starship that use adhesive to attach heat tiles weren't roughed up from the start. Thought it was common knowledge that you want a rough surface so the glue has something to hold onto. Just flat to flat is way more likely to come apart otherwise.

New adhesive, or a completely different method for the nosecone TPS?
My understanding is that they will still use adhesive but they are removing the finish from the stainless to allow a better cohesion between the stainless and the adhesive creating a much better bond..
Grind the surface in both the metal and tile to produce a better mechanical bond. Spray on a primer coat to prevent corrosion on the metal. A hot bond adhesive cooked on under vacuum might provide a better bond with the tiles.
I wonder if this has anything to do with all the debris shedding we seen on flight 3 at the start of reentry. Looked like it was coming from somewhere around the nose section

I didn't realize that the star factory looks like it will have a nice light line incorporated into it. I also hope that they move to a sliding PEZ door with tongue and groove on three sides to help stabilize it more. Seems that would be a highly efficient approach.
I think the straight line of windows coming from the east will expand in the shape of the triangle outlined by the angled double beam. And it looks like the façade looking to the high bay will have the same window triangle, but reversed. We might still be able to see inside the Starfactory, when light from inside.
They should do the rings in reverse order. As it is they have to relocate their workflow every time they add a ring. they should build a work jig at the bottom and raise the stacked sections above them bringing in the next ring down each time, these could also have the guides reinstalled. This way the workers stay at the bottom and never have to relocate their equipment or use man lifts.
Sounds like those pully wheels need some greasing up, especially when lifting such brilliant work by the Starship builders and all. 🤔😯
9:30 is a usually done with cryo systems to purge out debris from maintenance or parts replacement. Then you hook it back up and you're good to go.

Watching the SPMT's in this made me think are those SPMT units the most heavily used in the world because most of the time when they are needed you move an item or 2 then they get transported elsewhere to do another job. Here its every day and night moving rockets or parts around the site.
Can always try to catch them later after learning how to stick the landings...

It's going to be a weird world when their ship building speed and launches become mundane, but I'm all about it 🎉
Absolutely brilliant videos of space X progress, but can they make the heat shield tiles like tongue and grove paneling so that the tiles do not fall off, of the there would have to have an expansion gap between the tiles. 🤔🌝🏴🇺🇲

Did anyone else see the graphic detailing Starship v2 and v3 during the presentation Elon gave at Starbase a few days ago? Apparently the Ship on v3 will have more than double the current thrust and the booster will get an additional ~40% thrust. Full stack is supposed to be 20% taller
I wonder if the site layout designers took into account the wind tunnel effect of the wind hitting the side of new warehouse and channeling high speed wind down towards the high bays and if it will effect operations in those buildings.
Steel work on the high bay needs some rust protection already with corrosion from the salty air. Is the level of noise constant off-site? We are used to noisy industry, but is the noise from Boca Chica 24/7?

@NASASpaceflight were they able to recover any of the flight 3 ship or booster parts? Or do they just get data from sensors cameras and whatever else that they have on the vehicles for data gathering?

The imbedded metal to fasten the ceramic tile to the pins is reacting with the ceramic, causing deformation and cracking.
Maybe a honey comb mesh sandwiched in the ceramic wouldn't deform and a locking pin from the side of the tiles would work ?
Frequency Resonation is separating the tiles, Splitting them where the heavy mettle brackets are imbedded in the ceramic. Vibrating them to pieces :P

What dictated the original diameter of the booster and ship? After watching Elon's video about making the starship taller, I got to thinking. Why not just increase the diameter of the two and not make it as tall? If it was larger in diameter, it seems that it would be more stable and not so tip heavy.... What would have been the restrictions of a larger diameter over a taller ship?

The first guy grinding on the nose cone has NO PPE! The second has an almost completely ineffective dust mask. Finally, the third guy is using filters. But the dust is floating away contaminating everything and everyone in the building and blowing out the door when it’s opened. They need to have occasional vacuum blow downs where they blow dirt and dust off every surface and vacuum it up.
Good observations! You would think that metal dust may be a concern as there are 3 ships inside the one bldg.

I wonder what would prevent Starship from using the same heat resistant material as they use in their Dragons instead of attaching thousands of heat shield tiles on the surface? I assume Dragon doesn't have heat shield tiles and the material used per se has high heat resistance. If someone could help me understand, it'd be great. Thanks
Dragon has an ablative heat shield - it burns away, and carries off heat in the process. Not really what you want for a short turn-around like Starship is planning to achieve.
Dragon's heatshield is also composed of tiles, they're also ablative instead of ceramic so not really good for hundreds of reuses

@@srinivasr.9976 First Space X needs to figure out how to keep them from falling off then after several flights with successful reentries they can project how the TPS stands up over x number of flights. Otherwise it would be guessing imo.

Rumors are that the tiles were deliberately removed on ground as result of data learning from IFT-3.

No one talks about this much but I think the need to go ahead and invest the time and effort into establishing landing legs now for the boosters. They are no way ready to catch one and if they practice landing them on the ground instead of letting them be destroyed they can gather much more valuable data from them.They have to have legs on the ships to land on the moon and mars any way so why not do the boosters too. Just makes more practical sense, way to lofty a goal to catch them and take that kind of chance of destroying the infrastructure, some one has to talk sense into Elon about this! Just saying...
