As someone who first learned on Maya in 2006, I appreciate all of the ways Blender has found to automate stuff that someone at some point just got sick and tired of doing by hand.
While there is a sort of satisfaction of doing things by hand, I don't think MOST people are going to give a shit if a plank of wood or grass is randomized by a machine.
