The mayor is allowing homelessness right in downtown, and now that they have started a task force to "study" the problem (not actually put more feet on the street), do you think the mayor's office is involved? Absolutely not.

YEAH it's the mayor's fault -- there have been homeless people downtown for 265 years

@@Tarantulisimo Not a tent village at the corner of Smithfield and Grant! No way. And there have been several assaults right on Smithfield. I understand that some of these people are mentally ill (my husband worked on a psych unit for 20+ years.) They need services, not tents.

    Pittsburgh is a mini California.
Pittsburgh needs a new DA and mayor.

@@markasteelsr.5990 No because the guy in the story was arrested 9 times within 5 years. Each time he was arrested he got probation. Which means he was already on probation when got arrested and only got his probation extended. A slap on the wrist is a understatement

Reopening Schumann might be a good step. Same goes for using Mental Health court to make repeat offenders go to some of the remaining State mental hospitals.

@mikebott6940 schumann closed for a reason. the fact is ppl around here are from a time when you just ✂️ people who fall below a certain line of helplessness.. a lot of this culture old east Europeans and north Irish escaping respective persecutions.. still a lot of recovery happening in everybody's lineage. In addition: old prejudice on new with africanamerican persecutions.. this city is going thru a LOT. A lot of what I wrote may be perceived as a pessimistic purview, but I see positive growth in this city as well.. something born from conflict and unity

The problem is officials not doing their jobs...the system has been broken from day one if an officer encounters an individual whi needs help get them the mental health they need but thats not what happens, what happens is their placed in a jail system and then released without getting the help that was needed in the first place. Its more than just voting alot more involved than just voting. 😏

I work at the PNC tower for the cleaning company and last week a group of kids on bikes came threw 5th Ave and busted out car windows and stole stuff. My SUV was one of the cars they hit, and the cops just didn't even care to show up when I called them at 6am and now they took my info but never heard back. Smdh

I feel bad for the people who are stuck there, 40 years was enough amazing we don't have these issues in FL wonder why. You would think some Homeless would love to come to sunny Florida rather than Pittsburgh right ? LOL Its because Government is the enabler there. Born and Raised, went to city schools, lived threw the gang era, yet we didnt have these problems in the 90s, youtube any of the old Pittsburgh cops episodes from the 90s lol, you can see what real law enforcement used to look like.. Supreme Court just cleared the way to REMOVE the homeless LEGALLY. Lets see what the excuse is now that the SUPERME COURT ok'd it. Bike Lanes!!!

The authorities might want to seriously consider getting more help for the victims of these crimes than the attackers.

Nobody wants to go to western psych bro. The available civil services in this city that address mental health related addictions are absolutely horrendous. There are ZERO dual treatment options in this city that are worth a damn. Where does all the allegheny tax money go? Zero percent of liquor tax funds or sponsors dual-treatment rehabilitation centers?

KDKA loooves when any crime occurs downtown -- then they can start saturating us with "just when you thought it was safe to go downtown" horror stories. Well, according to KDKA, downtown has never been safe -- you can go back 1-2-5-10 years & find the very same "rising crime epidemic" stories. Of course, now it plays into the political divide much moreso than before. And Marty & Colin on KDKA Radio wish, hope, & pray for these types of incidents so they can go all in about the living cesspool crime-ridden hell that is downtown Pittsburgh. I went to school downtown in the '80s, worked downtown in the '90s, partied & hung out downtown in the 2000s & beyond -- there was always crime, always homeless people, always beggars & bums, always all of the same things you find in ANY urban area. The things that HAVE changed about downtown are that there is less hustle & bustle due to the closing of the huge department stores, consolidation of business offices, loss of the old-school retail hub, & more folks working from home or in the suburbs -- this makes the crimes & homeless more conspicuous because there's less foot traffic. And sure the closing of instituations & facilities doesn't help matters. A guy standing on Smithfield beging for change stands out more when there's only a few hundred people on the street as opposed to a thousand
