Years of police work have taught Detective Finlay that where there’s crime, there’s motive. But he finds no usual motive when investigating a man’s death by beating. The man was killed because he was a Jew. “Hate,” Finlay says, “is like a gun.” Robert Young portrays Finlay, Robert Mitchum is a laconic army sergeant assisting in the investigation of G.I. suspects, and Robert Ryan plays a vicious bigot in a landmark film noir nominated for five Academy Awards®, including Best Picture. Edward Dmytryk (Murder, My Sweet) directs, draping the genre’s stylistic backdrops and flourishes around a topic rarely before explored in films: anti-Semitism in the U.S. Here, Hollywood takes aim at injustice...and catches bigotry in a Crossfire.
Special Features: Commentary by Film Historians Alain Silver and James Ursini, with Audio Interview Excerpts of Director Edward Dmytryk; Featurette "Crossfire: Hate Is Like A Gun"
    Directed By Edward Dmytryk
Starring Robert Young, Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan

The lighting is great, isn't it? It gives the impression of darkness in the investigator's office, but the faces are actually very clear and interesting.

It’s a really great movie. Robert Ryan gives awesome bad guy. Just watched it on the BBC iPlayer. Much better than I thought it was going to be.

The only film in cinema history to have three above-the-title stars with the same first name. Amazing!

What an awesome, far sighted, clever movie this turned out to be. Just after we’d won a war to stomp out that sinister, murderous intent of racism in the world, Hollywood thought it was important to remind us that the demon wasn’t dead, just hiding in the shadows. A bit on the nose toward the end, but nevertheless, great writing and great performances from the four lead actors; especially Gloria Graham’s cameo.

The film sucks ass. Stupid little film about how it is wrong to beat Jews to death.
Nothing here about racism either. Where did you get that idea? The murder victims were white. The murderer also hated white Southerners.
The murderer an anti Jewish bigot beats 2 men to death but has no bruising on his knuckles, no blood on his clothes and the police do not bother to look.
