As an Arabic-native, I have found out that it is categorically easy for me to learn/understand Maltese but it seems that it has also borrowed many words mainly from English,Turkish, French and Italian.
A legacy of proximity and invasion as well as the profound influence of English who the Maltese invited to take over if they promised to get rid of the French.

I speak Arabic and I understood 70% of the words.
My Grand father was Maltese and a Fisherman who worked out of Valletta. So one day he took his little fishing boat out of Valletta harbour and sailed it all the way across the sea to Tunisia and landed at Tunis port and once there he could easily speak with the other Tunisian fishermen and people of Tunis. He felt quite happy and ended up being stuck there. I don't know if he had a 'girl in port' or not. Maybe he did find a nice Tunisian lady and lived happily ever after!

@@magnuscorbin5040 Not at all. Because he spoke Maltese *(which is basically a polluted form of ARABIC)* he could converse easily with the Tunisian locals. At Tunis where his little fishing boat ended up. He spoke to do trade and by these business trips he ended up meeting a beautiful Tunisian lady!

Lots of words similar in Tunisian Language
How can you make so many mistakes in such a short video?
- jekk jogħġbok = "please", not "you're welcome" (you're welcome is ta' xejn).
- il-ġurnata t-tajba -> you never start the article with a vowel if the preceding word ends with a vowel (all such cases)
- għandna/għandniex -> you're using h (akka) instead of ħ in many cases
- miżżewweġ not mizzewweg -> again, missing Maltese letters
- you don't need jiena with għandi, jisimni, etc. it's like you're saying "I am I have", għandi, m'għandiex is enough, the funniest is "jiena m'iniex miżżewweġ" = "I am I am not married" LOL!
- I am from = jiena minn (or mill-), not mil
- m'iniex not miniex, m'għandiex not ma għandiex
- sifirt = I travelled (past tense) not I travel (present tense), in present it's nsiefer
- sifirt ma' not ma (the apostrophe is a silent għ and is important!)
- there is no "OK" in Maltese, there is "mela" instead
If this is the quality of the courses then I would definitely not pay for them :( Almost every sentence/expression has an error.
I haven't spoken Maltese since I was a child and I was sure that the extra jiena was wrong!

You're mostly correct apart from a few exceptions (Maltese is my mother tongue):
1. You can use "jiena" with "għandi". We drop the "jiena" for ease, but there's nothing grammatically incorrect in keeping it in. For example: Għandi l-ġuħ / Jiena għandi l-ġuħ = I am hungry (not I am I am hungry) ... This is the same as in Italian i.e. you can say Io ho fame / ho fame.
2. OK is used a lot in Maltese. Not sure if you'll find it in the dictionary, however.

Our darja should be it’s own language as well. Our darja is almost as close if not closer to Maltese than standard Arabic.

Omg as a Hebrew speaker who can also understand some Arabic, I understood almost all of it😱 I always thought Maltese was a Slavic language, can’t believe it’s actually Semitic. It’s so similar to my language, Hebrew. I’m so glad to hear other languages that are close to Hebrew other than just the Arabic language.
One of my best friends is from Israel and I have been to Israel myself. I can understand the numbers and a very few words in Hebrew as a native Maltese but not much more. I can understand arabics a bit better though.

Maltese is one of the smallest languages there is. Spoken by approximately only 700 thousand people in the entire world. That includes people living in Malta and Maltese living abroad who migrated. The population of Malta is about 500 thousand. The language is actually dying because it is not know world wide and so people choose langauges like Spanish or French to learn, as they are familiar about these languages. And also possible finding careers in thise languages. So people are not choosing to study Maltese except for the citizens of Malta, because there is not enough exposure about the language or even a need in the world for Maltese. Since Malta also speaks English as an official language. So people in Malta are born being thought 2 languages and so we get along very well IN English to do business. ZAlso I think you can only learn Maltese in Malta, the country the Maltese language belongs to, in schools. So for let's say an American to learn Maltese while living in Americ, he has to resort to the internet. Even though he can go to class in school to learn French. It is not known that Maltese as a language is giving as an option in school, for students to have it as a choice to pick, to learn a new language. Mostly students are often given choices to choose French, Spannish and German for example. So a language thought only in 1 country where it is spoken by a maximum of 700,000 people does not have much room for growth and it will be one of the first languages to die.

OMG this is hilarious! I am Maltese and was in Egypt on holiday few years ago. And I could understand Egyptian and they could understand me in Maltese sometimes. I used to say xorb jekk jogbok and they understood I wanted a drink.
in tunisia we say sahha when someone burps, finishes showering, finishes eating, buys new things, goes to the beach & when someone falls(for joking purposes but not seriously)

Fun fact Bonġu is a French loanword, Maltese has a bit of French vocabulary because there was a period of two years (1798-1800) where Malta was under French rule
When I was a little girl in the 60's my Maltese father (mum is English) taught me how to count to 10 in maltese & said "that's all u need to know" funny stuff! But those were different days & now adays Maltese people are proud of their language & history & consider that all foringers should make an effort & even speak it fluently...which can be a bit unrealistic as a lot of foringers specifically take a job in Malta because it's an English speaking country & so Malta has that advantage in terms of foringers bringing their skills to the Isalnd...these people are not nessaserily going to have the inclination to learn a difficult language which (realistically) u can't take anywhere else..like for instance French or Spanish. & just to add that my Maltese husband never speaks to me or our children in maltese nor does any of my relative's on both sides & when I hear a Maltese husband speaking with his foreign wife & their children it's always in English...so the trend goes on I'm afraid.
Wow! I still have not mastered Arabic but the phonetics sounds strong due to the influence. Also the Italian and English ones.

If this is Maltese, it has several errors. I don't know if it would be correct in Arabic, which is similar to Maltese.
Largely correct in pronunciation - a little bit off in the actual everyday language use. Some obvious mistakes in ortography - notice the haphazard use of h and ħ, z and ż and g an ġ. Also there should not be a vowel following a vowel at the end of a word - the preceeding word - eż. not l-għodwa it-tajba - but l-għodwa t-tajba. Otherwise a useful exercise for simple everyday use purposes.
