So, about the art. I personally LOVE this sort of "some obscure manga from the 90's" artstyle. The problem comes from questionable designs for the 2nd and 3rd ascensions (they might be intentional. The 2nd ascension definitely looks like something from old sci-fi manga with their weird robo suits) and coloring. Oberon also had a pretty unique artstyle, but he had no issues with colors. Here, however, he is too light, almost transparent. I think the art itself would look better if you give him more shading and more brighter colors. It also can be a compression issue. The artist for Luvia's art in FGO said that their art was compressed incorrectly into the game, which is why it looks "bad", I guess. They actually contacted Lasenge about this, but no changes were made
Agreed. The black Jaguar and the obsidian leg elements are accurate to the lore of the character, and the artist -Shou Tajima- can actually draw quite well... His realistic sketches and black and white drawings are particularly nice. However, he drop the ball here. I don't understand why Lesangle agreed to use that artwork. While it is debatible if the artist's usual style (the watercolor and light palette, etc.) is a good match to the character's story and personality, the art of the second and third ascensions is below the standards of the artist's usual work.
Honestly, I personally like the art, because it give him an ethereal and smoke-like feels, that he just straight up doesn’t care about what anyone think of him, while forcing you to care about what he think of you. But it’s definitely one of those “Love it or Hate it” Art
the art style is nice to be fair but i think the posing is the big issue that and of course the colours being so washed out looking, which works for the artist's work but not for this context but yeah, mainly the posing is very awkward
Personally, i think the whole "passives buffing MC skills" thing is great for the bond system, something like "the servant is so in tune with their master that their buffs are X% more effective"
Someone in the comments said it best, it doesn’t fit FGO. The game is unique by letting artists show off their art styles, like Dantes and Cleo’s artist, but Tez goes too far in that direction. If the artwork was more solid and less watercolors, it might look better. But right now, it just looks like concept art. Like the artist was running late submitting the art and just gave Lasengle what they had finished.

Strong disagree. His art looks like it was done paper and then scanned and very minorly touched up on PC. Digital art is much easier and faster to make than that, AND it's what his artstyle has always been. They picked him because they wanted that style. Running late and submitting what they had is a good call on Emiya Assassin though. Literally paint bucket 3 shades of grey and then 20% opacity a texture over him. The issue is that most people who play FGO are weebshits and consider traditional art mediums ugly because digital is 'cleaner'. I make Digital art myself, and that's because of how much easier it is than painting. Cheaper, there's an undo button, and other peole have done most of the work for you in creating brushes and textures.
@@ThoraeJenkins nah, don't project. The art is just bad. It's not the first time FGO had weird art styles. This is just bad art with weird proportions, muddy colors, flat composition.
As a Mexican myself and since Tezcatlipoca is my favorite god from the mesoamerican pantheon, I find it to be really disappointing... No only because I feel the art style itself doesn't match the character (Camazotz looks way better in comparison), but because the artist's abilities seem lackluster; Coloring, anatomy, even the Mexican elements are lacking and look flat and ugly in comparison... It's a fact they have way more talented artists in Japan, so I can't understand their decision... By the end of the Post Classic Mesoamerican period, along with Hitzilopochtli and Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca was the most relevant God... It feels like a big wasted opportunity.

He seems like a good team/main DPS for some fun comps like arc Though with Valkyrie assassin being a thing he isn't the most top need as you'll have may options. Art is very cool feels like a old history design Also this lostbelt is so cool and love Ereshkigal is going to be in it
Don’t worry Myst a lot of players are agreement that his art is probably the worst in fgo so far especially for a 5 star limited Lostbelt servant. I’m honestly glad he’s not the summonable grand berserker. I hope he’s like Tai Gong or the first emperor qualified but isn’t.
Just a small correction, but QSH simply has a spirit origin on par with grands and does not qualify for any of the seven grand class containers (also I think that Tez’s 1st and 3rd ascensions look kinda cool ngl)
He's not Grand Berseker, but Grand Assasin, just he wanted be the Grand Berseker, he became the Grand Assasin cause KH doesn't wanted to be anymore Grand Assasin
I feel like the artstyle is really jarring when you put him next to other FGO art, but if you look at it on its own, it's got this really nice like...traditional pencil style that grows on me the more I look at it. Definitely like that final ascension art. But I'm sure when he comes to NA in a couple of years I'll be just as iffy about it lol
Yeah, the big problem will be every time he is on screen alongside another character. He stands out way too much, which is funny because the water color makes him look washed out.
The artstyle in my opinion isn't bad its just doesn't fit in a FGO game because it has a background art while in Fire Emblem/Romancing Saga it fits so well the reason behind it doesn't have a background art only the characters profile. This would fit as a box art of an SNES or SEGA SATURN Cartridge.
Maybe I'm being too harsh on Tezcatlipoca's design due to personal reasons, but I believe that, while Umino Chika's style seemed kind of out of place compared to other character's when the 1st ascension was revealed, the character's design became better with each new ascension.. Shou Tajima has been drawing for decades and, while I'm not a fan of his artwork, I know he can draw quality stuff when he feels like it, but it is like he didn't even tried. I don't mind his color palette... While I don't think it matches the character I'm aware it is part of the artist's style, but the outfit design, the pose and anatomy are lazy and lacking in quality, and the character expressions are incredibly cringy as well. Instead of growing on me, like Oberon's design did, it disappointed me every time a new ascension was revealed. I can't help but think that a less reputed artist could have done a much better work. It's like he just wanted to finish early and go home.
I love how we all feel the same about his art..I got him and I was jumpscared by his expression when I ascended him as well..will keep him in the first ascension..his FA is neat as well
I think my opinion's with the consensus for the most part. The second ascension is...really something. I think part of it might be most of the fandom (including myself) being used to F/GO with its attractive characters, even though the ugliness may well be intentional in this case. And even so, the second ascension is just kind of counterintuitive artistically, in terms of choice of facial proportions and the overall lack of contrast/stiff posing. Also, as has been noted from the get-go, the general art style and lighting choice also tends to contrast the backgrounds drawn by other artists in a way that isn't so appealing. Ascension-wise, I can only comment on the first ascension because I'm not knowledgeable at all when it comes to the character's lore (Ascension 3), but I do think the tacky tourist look has grown on me a bit. The dude seems like someone who intentionally would make himself look like that to make others underestimate him and to annoy them, and it fits with Quetz's assessment of what he'd look like. Plus there's just something about characters who look iffy as all heck for me, I dunno. And for his FA art, I think it actually does better what (I think) Ascension 2 tried to do. For me the pale colors work better in this case, and there's something about Tezcatlipoca's expression and perspective that feels really nice to me. But this one does seem to be more subjective. I do think that it's funny in a way that this dude jumpscares us F/GO players, who are usually expecting ascensions to get cooler/more epic. It feels like the artist hit the nail on the head in terms of knowing how we'd react and usurping our expectations. Overall, the expression changes just seem like such a bad joke, which seems very characteristic of this dude. Anyways, again, all of this is just my opinion lol. Feel free to disagree or agree with any part of it. But this does feel rather new for the community, and honestly I can't say I dislike that. (But if I summoned the dude, I definitely would avoid the random ascension option just to avoid the second ascension art showing up. xD)
His art stile reminds me of hand drawn 90's MTV cartoons or Pink Floyd videoclipes, looks like the artist used western adult cartoons as inspiration to enfatize adult traits and the disconnection with eastern principles.
He basically works in the same vein as lolinci where he can easily use castoria’s np to help buff up his damage in farming and he also seems great for cqs
He was never Grand Berserker, I think. He says in his voice lines that he is only an Assassin because 'someone gave up the title'. So he's probably occupying the position of Grand Assassin since Gramps gave it up.
the art itself is good, watercolor and all feels like an old manga style but on this sevant idk, feels weird to have that style right after they released Nitocris Alter with banger art

I'm quite disappointed. Daybit's grand servant was huge for me like what servant could be so wildly powerful and crazy to be a grand servant AND in the final Lostbelt and it's this guy? I bet the real crazy ass servant is down the line in the story still.
Why everyone hating on the art, I mean yh some of the faces are off and the poses could be a bit better but it ain't that bad, reminds of a guilty gear cover
I checked the number and NP1 is already enough to outdamage NP5 Valks by about 5k. That's assuming if you use his Guts first then Charisma and if the Valks aren't facing Earth Enemies. The Valks are NP5 but their damage is capped and they have smaller Buff Numbers compared to Tez that can ramp his every turn. Refund wise, I do feel like he's worse in regards the Valks have worse gain but offset by their Hitcounts and NP Gain Buff
Funny thing is, I hate his art. Think it’s ugly as hell. However, he’s a must roll for me and my favorite character from this LB. He has some of the coolest animations in all FGO in battle and his sprites and appearance in the TVCM show he looks cool as hell outside of the artist’s style. So yeah when he comes to NA, I’ll be rolling for him.
Normally I would love that style of Art on an FA but, part of why I love oberons FA because it’s a beauty in simplicity thing but…I’m just slightly annoyed that it has to be tezcatlipoca of all characters that has a design like that
I like it, and FGO doesn't have a set art style, especially in ascension art. There's enough generic anime characters that something that really stands out is far more interesting. Only thing I disliked about him was the partially uneven body contour. People are allowed to like or dislike it, as it's all subjective. Attacking someone for either is just plain stupid.
Sprites really do pull a lot of weight. Nightingale’s card art for ascensions 1-3 is a little rough, for some, but she has one of the best sprites in the game. I do think his card art is very, very mid. I might still put some of the lazier Year One bronzes lower than him, Eric for example, but that’s just because they change very, very slightly from stage to stage. This is a big miss for me.
I feel like tez is a really special case in the matter of "how pretty he is" Because his art do nothing for me, I don't like it but I don't hate in But his in game sprites, God he looks cool, especially his NP in the third ascension
2:54 BRUH i swear these kind of arts reminded me of my friend when we was in middle school who tried to draw full-body anime character for the first time 💀
This is a Servant that we're supposed to take seriously but the artstyle makes us want to mock it instead. Fortunately his kit is on the really good side.
The style itself is good, first assension looks great imo but the other two just have really strange designs. Even with a different art style they'd still look off. Basically I have nothing against this artist or their style I more dislike the character design fundamentally though I do think the first design is good.
Note: The artist well know for this work in the game "Galerians" and "MDP Psycho", sorry if you dont like the art but, Shou Tajima. Its my favorite artist.
This whole lostbelt gives me babylonia vibes. And the art style on Tez is honestly a breath of fresh air and I’d like to see more variety in future art
I heard the artist usually drew manga in analog, but this time he had to draw the ascensions in digital coz obviously FGO is a game. I guess that’s what happened, also I kinda love his final ascension. (first impression sucked tho)
ngl, i like stage 1 and final ascension of tezcatlipoca the other stages, not really im still gonna take the 1 copy i got while rolling for tlaloc, an ssr is still an ssr even if the arts a bit weird
This art causes me such pain. At least Columbus looks like he took some effort to make, but this is worse than the concept art books. Really not cool for a finished project. As much as I like the Pretender he’s on rate up with, I will not be giving Lasengle money on this banner in NA.
Look, I'm all for trying out new artstyles, but this....this isn't it chief. Also can Lasengle stop with locking ascension art for story? It's just stupid.
@@Maklocke It is good to have a lot of diferent artstyles in the game, but Tez... is not a good example. Oberon & Columbus feels organic, but Tezcatlipoca's postures and faces changes WAY TOO MUCH, those colors doesn't help as well.
I really like his art style, because his color and expresions are super unique. Also, the waifu booba/ass style is getting super old for me, and with the rising of AI i'm looking for something that i can feel is human made, it adds a lot of value.
I can agree that not every fa has to be erotic in some sense but look at saber gilles for example he has one of the best fas in the game because they actually put effort into the symbolism
I assume you meant a minute ahead of that. Anyway I'm starting to go crazy lol. I always have people saying that me saying the word "Deck" comes off as the other similar sounding word. It can't be that bad of a pronunciation :(
@@MystFGO No worries, bro. It's all in good fun. And it's not a pronunciation problem. That's just how your accent makes it sound like. So don't get worked up over it. And altough I know this, I still got caught off-guard when it happened, so I decided to make a joky comment about it :p
I heard some FGO fans saying that the furry version of Tezcatlipoca in Tokyo After School Summoners was better so i looked it up and... Honestly they were right, plus hes voiced by the voice actor of Dio/Takehito Koyasu so thats a bonus 👍
In my personal opinion, even the design of this character does not save the situation with color and style as such. His latest design directly screams that he is COSPLAYING some shaman against his own will. Where is his famous mirror, disk, face with yellow and black stripes and God forbid the fog and the severed leg? Even his crown looks ridiculous compared to the flying snake and his enemy. The damn god of bats looks more like Tetza, than Teza himself.
If it had been a different Servant, I’d be more understanding. But he’s one of the most hyped up Servants in the game and his artwork just seems so lacking in comparison.
I legit think that looking at his art style and kinda generic skill set that this guy was rushed asf... It's not like the "art style" is bad... it's honestly unfinished.... Lasagna dropped the ball here
Feel so disappointed by his art. So shit. I may seem salty but there is no art style in this game that has made me audibly go "I wish it didn't exist". And I'm so disappointed because this man is a major character in what is probably the most major chapter of the story, and this is what we get.
I agree with Astreas art being not that good but her final art is cool, imo this guy is in a competition with saber lancelot for worst art in the game, at least saber Lancelot has better quality
Not gonna lie, his art style looks like it was made for those free history books the government give out to students in Mexico. Can confirm as Mexican
Exactly what I thought lol
It's like the cover illustration from a SEP textbook lol
When I first time saw his 2nd ascension I barely had a heart attack, since I thought it was artist from MGQ.

Dude kills the sun in his NP animation and can resurrect the dead. His artstyle clashes with the rest of the setting true but he's really no slouch.
Why everyone hating on the art, I mean yh some of the faces are off and the poses could be a bit better but it ain't that bad, reminds of a guilty gear cover
Ascension 3: "Arise Chicken, Chicken arise!"
I sincerely hope that Tlaloc is also on Kukulkan's Banner too since I have a mighty need to NP5 her but I don't want any Tezca spooks at all
Honestly he's just a metal gear solid character and I'm here for it.
So yeah when he comes to NA, I’ll be rolling for him.
maybe something is wrong with me,because i absolutely love his art
I actually really like the Final Ascension art, everything else is weird tho. His 1st ascension sprite is great though
NEVERMIND, I'VE JUST SEEN HIS ASCENSION 3 NP ANIMATION. THAT CLEARS A1 UNFORTUNATELY
That 3rd ascension legit looks like a children drawing
Not gonna lie, the arts and expressions kinda made it worth the roll for THE servant of all time :'v
Normally I would love that style of Art on an FA but, part of why I love oberons FA because it’s a beauty in simplicity thing but…I’m just slightly annoyed that it has to be tezcatlipoca of all characters that has a design like that
I personally would rather get these experimental/"weird" artstyles over anime girl 315 any day of the week
I am waiting for a new PAKO servant. His artstyle is my favourite in FGO. That or something from the artist that made Mori Nagayoshi Berserker
Experimental lol more like ugly
I like it, and FGO doesn't have a set art style, especially in ascension art. There's enough generic anime characters that something that really stands out is far more interesting. Only thing I disliked about him was the partially uneven body contour.
People are allowed to like or dislike it, as it's all subjective. Attacking someone for either is just plain stupid.
I just wish his art card had a black suit like his in game sprite instead of that light grey
This guy got such a good chemistry with Oddy weirdly enough
I feel like tez is a really special case in the matter of "how pretty he is"
Because his art do nothing for me, I don't like it but I don't hate in
But his in game sprites, God he looks cool, especially his NP in the third ascension
So, i have a doubt: does the sun field negation work against gawain in Camelot? I dont think so, since it's called nightless
I doubt it would work against a special gimmick like that sadly
fgo's equivalent of boiling chicken until it is whiter than paper vs cooking it normally
2:54 BRUH
i swear these kind of arts reminded me of my friend when we was in middle school who tried to draw full-body anime character for the first time 💀
I personally like his art style. Looks really unique!!
Yeah it's very old school, niche, obscure manga-esque, especially with how it's colored.
This is a Servant that we're supposed to take seriously but the artstyle makes us want to mock it instead.
Fortunately his kit is on the really good side.
Unless Nasu pulls something like Oberon on him, he is an easy skip. Art is awful and aside from his last passive, he is nothing out of ordinary.
The style itself is good, first assension looks great imo but the other two just have really strange designs. Even with a different art style they'd still look off. Basically I have nothing against this artist or their style I more dislike the character design fundamentally though I do think the first design is good.
That magic circuit skill icon has to get ported to the Emiyas imo, gotta have that tracing action
OH MY GOD YOU REALLY PUT THE FACE THANK YOU
That second ascension is just...
Goddamn.
I like the art style ngl
It looks like something from a gritty adult manga
Like berzerk
1:05 thanks made my day 😂
Note: The artist well know for this work in the game "Galerians" and "MDP Psycho", sorry if you dont like the art but, Shou Tajima. Its my favorite artist.
I think the biggest problem is that he doesnt really fit FGO. Not that the art itself is bad per se.
This whole lostbelt gives me babylonia vibes. And the art style on Tez is honestly a breath of fresh air and I’d like to see more variety in future art
The variety is nice, the art not so nice
variety sure, that art style HELL NO
I heard the artist usually drew manga in analog, but this time he had to draw the ascensions in digital coz obviously FGO is a game.
I guess that’s what happened, also I kinda love his final ascension. (first impression sucked tho)
2 ascension Tez looks like grown up Butter Pants from Shrek.
ngl, i like stage 1 and final ascension of tezcatlipoca
the other stages, not really
im still gonna take the 1 copy i got while rolling for tlaloc, an ssr is still an ssr even if the arts a bit weird
It's just stupid.
nah, i kinda love it ngl.
apart from the middle ascension.... oof
we need more funky different artstyles like this and columbus
@@Maklocke EXCEPT that columbus looks awesome , this is just plain af
@@Maklocke It is good to have a lot of diferent artstyles in the game, but Tez... is not a good example. Oberon & Columbus feels organic, but Tezcatlipoca's postures and faces changes WAY TOO MUCH, those colors doesn't help as well.
Tbf, I love his sprites and animations
@@kiryuukomh the FA legit looks unfinished
his head looks a bit small for ascend 2
luvia looks gorgeous thou in that art in my opinion
His third ascension looks amazing imo, its colors and theme make it kinda unsettling
I like his art style very unique
I really like his art style, because his color and expresions are super unique. Also, the waifu booba/ass style is getting super old for me, and with the rising of AI i'm looking for something that i can feel is human made, it adds a lot of value.
I can agree that not every fa has to be erotic in some sense but look at saber gilles for example he has one of the best fas in the game because they actually put effort into the symbolism
4:14 when it comes to his WHAT!?
I assume you meant a minute ahead of that. Anyway I'm starting to go crazy lol. I always have people saying that me saying the word "Deck" comes off as the other similar sounding word. It can't be that bad of a pronunciation :(
@@MystFGO No worries, bro. It's all in good fun. And it's not a pronunciation problem. That's just how your accent makes it sound like. So don't get worked up over it. And altough I know this, I still got caught off-guard when it happened, so I decided to make a joky comment about it :p
in fact that the illustrator (Shou Tajima) he did final fantasy art
Bruh, I will never call Columbus ugly again after Tez.
Tezcalitpoca is the best thing to ever happen to my Chaldea holy shit
I heard some FGO fans saying that the furry version of Tezcatlipoca in Tokyo After School Summoners was better so i looked it up and...
Honestly they were right, plus hes voiced by the voice actor of Dio/Takehito Koyasu so thats a bonus 👍
My only real problem with him is how short his arms are compared to the legs and torso. He just doesn't look that proportional.
His 3rd ascension looks like a man wearing racially insensitive halloween costume
That art is really something
I love this artstyle. I really, really like it. It reminds me of amano yoshitake from FF. I hope they release more of this artstyle
it is Amano Yoshitake from F.F. he designed the character.
I really hope they never hire him again
@@h.e.d9499 Where did you hear this? I can't find a source myself but thought it looked like Amano - albeit a bastardization thereof
@@h.e.d9499 It's actually a different final fantasy artist.
@@black1blade74 oh damn youre right its Tajima Shou he also worked on F.F.
It’s funny looking back and seeing how much of a 180 peoples opinions of Tez has come.
yeah, i 100% agree, this feels like concept art. why is he so zoomed out?
In my personal opinion, even the design of this character does not save the situation with color and style as such. His latest design directly screams that he is COSPLAYING some shaman against his own will. Where is his famous mirror, disk, face with yellow and black stripes and God forbid the fog and the severed leg? Even his crown looks ridiculous compared to the flying snake and his enemy. The damn god of bats looks more like Tetza, than Teza himself.
The Tall Blond Chuckie!!
He'll compliment King Hassan very well.
His art style kinda reminds me of full ahead coco’s
1:16 Me When Monster House (2006):
I personally love this soft watercolor artstyle
If it had been a different Servant, I’d be more understanding. But he’s one of the most hyped up Servants in the game and his artwork just seems so lacking in comparison.
For sure , pvp is coming
His art reminds me a lot of Romancing Saga
New servant lookin' kinda like CursedCatalyst.png
I legit think that looking at his art style and kinda generic skill set that this guy was rushed asf...
It's not like the "art style" is bad... it's honestly unfinished....
Lasagna dropped the ball here
Feel so disappointed by his art. So shit. I may seem salty but there is no art style in this game that has made me audibly go "I wish it didn't exist". And I'm so disappointed because this man is a major character in what is probably the most major chapter of the story, and this is what we get.
"WOOOOOOOO"
The first one is nice. I like it, it has a very nice vibe.
The others look like they were drawn by Milo Manara lmao
They really came out and made a Jekyll Alter rofl. Just watch him class change to a zerk after the story
I love much tuloc outfit
I agree with Astreas art being not that good but her final art is cool, imo this guy is in a competition with saber lancelot for worst art in the game, at least saber Lancelot has better quality
imagine what he would look like in arcade 😅 he would look flat like that character from world of gumball
The art looks like Dingo level art style
OK but his kit is great and we don't have that many arts looping assassins iirc
his art style rather looks like a WIP sketch that a finished product 💀
