"you thought that i was a devil, but i'm an angel waiting for my wings" said that to one of my teachers in 82. Still got expelled !! Best Jam songs ever
My favorite group with The Clash and The Attractions.. This was such a great time period of time.. Keeps me 65yrs young.. couldn't imagine my life without Paul Weller!
best band i ever saw because they were our band.. time will give the jam the credit they deserve i hope..they were by far the best biggest and most inspirational band of there time....
ACEFACE.. nice to see the clip again, saw the jam 14 times, spent, borrowed, sold records, anything to go to their gigs, easily the best british act since the beatles, live no one could touch them. P.S rock n roll did originate in america, though it originated through the poor 1950s black communities, which white anerica tried to ignore, by 1958 rock n roll was old and failing, it took a british act, the beatles to take modern popular music to a new and unequaled level.
The Jam split up too early, I always wonder what could have been, three more LP's ?? Same with The Smiths!! It's probably for the best - finished at the top!!!!
they kept getting better and better; lots of folks said they were nothing but derivative, but weller grew as a songwriter by leaps and bounds with each successive single and album and packed the band in at 24.
Wow, another awesome live Jam post! I love to blast Happy Together in my car and sing it at the top of my lungs as I slam the gas to the floor! Really I do, from an American aged 44. Awesome stuff thanks a lot!
Takes me back to Portsmouth '82, first gig of the Trans Global Express, and Wembley arena in Dec, the last gigs. Running on the Spot as relevant today as then.
'i believe in life and i believe in love but the world in which im living keeps trying to prove me wrong.' eye carved these words on a school desk in '82 when my girl split with me. the song is still fantastic. cheers ace.
These guys ALWAYS make me happy, even their dark songs! And I've felt this way for 25 years. The words are heavy and deep, but it rocks and it's, well, fun as hell!
Though we keep piling up the building blocks, the structure never seems to get any higher. Because we keep kicking out the foundations and stand useless while our lives fall down...................Superb lyrics, just simply superb
My concerns for the world when this record came out were echoed by a guy seven years older and from a similar suburban point of view, mixed with working class righteousness. And yet, a whole world away. The Jam 'The Gift' was a very important LP for me at seventeen. Thanks Paul, Bruce, & Rick.
Love his voice.., and these lyrics are genius. Typically PW. He is so level headed even now. Really he should be a nutcase, but he's fine. Cheers to Hannah too :)
Tosh. Seen 'From The Jam'? Perhaps you should. The Jam are a truly great band - and certainly one of the finest that Britain has ever produced. Whether the greatest boils down to taste - something which you are apparently lacking pal.
i think they´ll be plyain Happy together in Heaven...joined with curtis mayfield...Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayby weller love ya maan! thanx 2 the aceface mod 4 ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
while the UK has some amazing bands, and I've travelled all over England and seen a million shows there......we invented this thing called rock and roll. Scoreboard: USA......mates.
thanks for uploading ... blending fields (deinterlace) before uploading would improve video quality a lot here.. just a hint... awesome upload.. thanks a lot for sharing.. best !!
I was hoping we'd make real progress - But it seems we have lost the power Any tiny step of advancement Is like a raindrop falling into the ocean - We're running on the spot - always have - always will? We're just the next generation of the emotionally crippled. Though we keep piling up the building blocks The structure never seems to get any higher Because we keep kicking out the foundations And stand useless while our lives fall down. I believe in life - and I believe in love But the world in which I live in - keeps trying to prove me wrong. Out in the pastures we call society You can't see further than the bottom of your glass Only young but easily shocked You get all violent when the boat gets rocked - Just like sheep - little lambs into the slaughter Don't fully grasp what exactly is wrong - Truth is you never cared - still - You get all violent when the boat gets rocked - Intelligence should be our first weapon And stop reveling in rejection And follow yourselves, not some ageing drain brain Whose quite content to go on feeding you garbage We're running on the spot - always have - always will? We're just the next generation of the emotionally crippled.
the mighty and powerful performances of THE JAM are a delight to watch. I met paul and chatted for an hour with him and we talked bout the jam a lot.He says his fav album was SOUND EFFECTS.Mine was SETTING SONS but he could see why i liked that album.......but running on the spot is 1 of my fav album tracks.
ACE one of the best bands ever at the top of there game. such a shame weller called it a day and spent to many years out in the cold with sub standard style council crap. he could have kept the jam going for a good few years more than he did. long live the jam
i know, could not believe these people, still they will be telling us Tom Jones and Justin Timberlake should be considered together next! haha The Jam loved it first time round and takes me right back now to my scooter owning days!
Paul weller I wonder if you are a big Human League fan like I am. I'm also a big fan of the Jam. That's Entertainment is my favourite A side & The Butterfly collector is my favourite Jam b.side track. Maybe Paul Weller u cud do a duet with the 2Human League girls and me doing my drum kit inpression on the track. Good idea? From Paul Eyles from Portsmouth
+Steve Mcniel Weller is a much better Vocalist than oakey. Also a superior songwriter. ASolid bond in your heart by the style council is a Masterpeace. Oakey was half way to Boy George. IMO.

THE JAM were the best band of their time in the 80s. NO COMPARISON. EVER! BRILLIANT.
Yes , they was my life
Running On The Spot is an Anthem, and based on his delivery here, you understand that Weller's integrity is second to none.
I get drunk every 6 months and watch this video... one of the best .
"you thought that i was a devil, but i'm an angel waiting for my wings" said that to one of my teachers in 82. Still got expelled !! Best Jam songs ever
From In The City to Beat Surrender THE JAM never made a bad song ,they were best that was and still are,i never get tired of listning to them.
the jam were and still are the best band ever to walk the earth
My favorite group with The Clash and The Attractions.. This was such a great time period of time.. Keeps me 65yrs young.. couldn't imagine my life without Paul Weller!
I think when The Jam split Weller was 23 or something...just to think of the songs he wrote in that time....unreal
a boy genius.
I reckon 23, I suppose it's easy to check but I'm just gonna keep listening.
No-one wrote lyrics like Weller, and man he killed a guitar.
Weller's guitar at 4:30 is pretty wicked. That Ric just cuts thru the mix and the rhythm is jamming
Happy Together. One of the Jam songs that went under the radar but is so good
I reckon it’s my favourite , just can’t stop listening to it
Best band in British music history. Simple as that.
sorry for all that missed the jam play live, their energy was undiscribable.
best band i ever saw because they were our band..
time will give the jam the credit they deserve i hope..they were by far the best biggest and most inspirational band of there time....

Two very strong, overlooked tracks and a powerful performance
Love me some Foxton on bass!!

Running on the spot - The last great song The Jam produced.
What a band.
Weller was so ahead of the curve then.
Awesome.
while the UK has some amazing bands, and I've travelled all over England and seen a million shows there......we invented this thing called rock and roll. Scoreboard: USA......mates.

Want running on the spot at my funeral

Hey, they didn't translate the part at [1:56].
In Danish, it should be "Bå-bå-bå-bå-bå-bå."

Fantastic band .. only thing ever let them down was the mullet on bass!
The Jam rule. And a donut with no hole is a danish.
They were great as a three-piece.
When they started added dead weight, things went south quickly.

Oh man, this video rocks. We need The Jam back ASAP. But the audience seem to note even notice that they're on stage. What's with that? Yikes.
maybe... the best band there ever was.
i know, could not believe these people, still they will be telling us Tom Jones and Justin Timberlake should be considered together next! haha The Jam loved it first time round and takes me right back now to my scooter owning days!
Only good thing to come out of Woking, hate the town and their football team. Aldershot till i die !!!! THE JAM, PURE CLASS.
