My Ariens 524 with the Tecumseh Snow King engine just threw a rod. I think its a 6HP engine even though the Ariens model number is 524, I'm pretty sure its not 5HP. It has electric start, but I had a tough time getting it started. It finally fired up and BANG!!!
Great video thanks! I have a 18Hp lawn tractor that blows blue smoke. i changed the carb on it as well as the head gasket and re ground the valves and adjusted the lifters. my next step would be to replace the rings and hone the cylinder. would you recommend removing the piston from the bottom or top? also would it be possible to save the head gasket and hone it from the bottom? How can you tell if the rings are shot? The bore looked ok had a couple very shallow scratches didn't even catch the nail.
That crank is a mess and the engine won't be far from catastrophe again because you didn't polish it before putting a new rod on it. The #1 problem with the Tecumseh seems to be crank failure caused by wear between the piston rod and the crankshaft. Dirt, debris, water, and intermittent use all create the conditions for this problem until finally the rod seizes and snaps.
Y did you have to pull the crank out if it was scored I would not put a new rod in plus it would make it a lot easier to put the piston in if you remove the head a 3$ head gasket will save you a lot of work so you don't have to remove the fly. Wheel to get the crank out
Hey dony, I got a 208cc powermore engine on a blower here. Seems when I pull it over there's very little compression. I pulled the spark plug and looked into the chamber as I pull the recoil, and the piston doesn't move up or down. I pushed the piston down with a soft rod, and it went down pretty easy and stayed there. Could this be a busted rod? Or you have an idea what I'm working with? The spark plug is producing spark when I pulled it and touch it to the body. Gapped at .030. Could it be something I'm missing? Thanks a million. Great video as always
The piston arm snapped off the crank. I wouldn't bother repairing it because Powermore is the bottom line when it comes to engine's, there junk. But if you do, you have to drain the oil, you have to take off the back cylinder cover, remove the broken arm off the crank, remove the broken arm from the piston. Order a new piston arm and put our piston on the new arm, bolt it back on the crank. You also need to make sure your remove all little pieces of broken metal inside there from the first one breaking. Make sure you get every piece if you miss one little peace it will destroy the engine while running. New gasket, cylinder cover back on. Add your oil. Done fixed. Start it and test it to make sure it is fixed and running well. An engine rebuild, do exactly what he did here in this video.
"Dances with wolves" told the tribe that Shaman Tecumseh likes to expose his rod. Chief stood up, took a hit of smoke pipe and passed it on. "Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home." said a great chief Tecumseh to a governor as he threw a rod.
Dony, great videos. What would be the best way to clean carbon build-up from a piston and valves? What type of cleaner would you use? This is on a 6Hp Tecumseh snow blower engine. Thanks.
You have both of those wrist pin cir-clips installed in the wrong orientation. The open ends should face "up" or "down". 6 or 12 o'clock. NOT 3 or 9...
why does it seem like the flathead tecumsehs have a lot of problems I have a 5.5hp ohv that is a high compression engine and ive had no trouble with it besides the carb
Dony I bought some new lifters for my 6hp Tecumseh(from H60 engine parts diagram. The tappets(the part that hit the cam lobes) are smaller in diameter then the ones I took out.And also they only show one part number for intake and exhaust. Will these work out?
Thanks Don, am just doing this job on a old 10hp, hard to think about winter when it’s +40
You make it look easy. Nice build from the bottom of case.
the ignition is fixed. if you have points i have another video showing this. i will make a video in the future on valve timing
You were hammering on the rings
Awesome video. Thank you for this.
Great video quality.

Thanks, so what do I do with the hole in my block?😊
A hose clamp works well as a ring compressor.
Not too tight.
Allow the piston to slide through with minimal drag.
How did you get the aluminum off the crankshaft
thanks for this...
@Doginasnow did you try the rod cap in the other direction?
Nice !! and are you going to make a video on how to time these engines ? because I don't know how and I would like to know lol.
@Smallgasengine1 They went out of bisness. So no I don't think so.

does the dipper oil by splashing oil everywere and the vertical shaft type have a oil bath?
I had a briggs and stratton quantum xts 60 engine that broke a connecting rod, sadly the rod flung up into the cylinder and gouged it out badly
How does oil make its way to the crankshaft journal/rod interface?
not sure about singles but they did make a v twin ohv
That's was the wrist pin you were banging on.
nice man good luck! 5/5
200 inch pounds ? My god 200 ft lbs takes two hands
Need videos on those plastic carbs of briggs and stratton
They don't put slider bearings on those connecting rods?
hi dony what does a job like that cost to do ?
No. What I ment was the cam and the crank timing.

about $50 retail

find your part number and check the link on my channel

I use engine cleaner and a very soft wire brush, preferably a brass one
@@donyboy73 What Kind of Gloves you Used on this Assembly Work. Please Tell me
@@gobi.s8470 black nitrile
was the rod costly?
200lbs. That will break the bolts
He mentioned Inch lbs earlier. . Basically 16.5 ftlbs
Can you repeat step by step how much lb?
Should I use assembly lube on the bolt threads of the rod?
You can if you want
the vw crowd put a bowtie 327 rod in a pancake motor. more stroke ?
You have both of those wrist pin cir-clips installed in the wrong orientation.
The open ends should face "up" or "down". 6 or 12 o'clock.
NOT 3 or 9...
did you reuse the clips or put in new ones?
is that transmission fluid?
Looks like but I doubt it. But he said it doesn't matter what u use

i've always heard your not supposede to clean off the tops of pistons with a wire wheel....somthing about weakening it
What do they say is best to use?
Just who is "they?"
Do you sell any parts? Looking for piston rings for Tecumseh OHV130 206810A Part # 35779
Should I retorque the bolts 3 times to make sure I have proper torque?
Once should be good enough
@EXTREME4YEARSTOCOME i reused the clips
oh my god what the hell would`nt buy an engine of you
Should I change the oil soon after running a rebuild?
Yes
I'd say change to sae 30 after 5hrs of idleing
you just making the rod more let me say prone to wear cause you didint put some lubricant on it while putting it back....
lol
125 pounds? Seems abit much dosen't it?
That rod jornal looked terrible. Even looked like a metal shaving was hanging on. You won't get many hours on that engine till crank failure/seisure.
ACTUALLY STILL RUNNING TODAY 7 YEARS LATER
donyboy73 that's impressive because the crank did look like trash not even a polish lol fuck it if it works
it's actually still running 8 years later in our Canadian winters
You didnt show how to replace just remove
pos tecumseh engines
