At first I thought that it was a part of the character, the way he speaks, this Sullivan, throughout the series I hardly understood what he said (nothing wrong with my ears or knowledge of English) and now I have seen this short interview I know it's just him, he just eats up the last part of what he is trying to say, I find that it irritates me, but can live with it, enough understandable actors co-starring this series......
Honestly I thought/think he was drunk or intoxicated and realize after looking it up today, I'm not the only one that thinks that it's not a language barrier issue. It progressed as the seasons went on. Not just the slurring or his annunciation but even his mannerisms when talking are all indicative of someone intoxicated. Even in this interview speaking in his original accent he appears intoxicated. There are many prior years of interviews where he spoke sharp & alert. If he were the sole character that lead this show without so many other great actors, I definitely wouldn't have watched it for long. I think there's a reason why his character had a lot more lines in the first 2 seasons and then trickled down to as few as possible in season 4. Haven't watched season 5 yet. Hope that's not the case, if so he should get into treatment because landing a huge role on a show with some longevity and now season 5 concludes the series, he may never get that lucky again. A lot of competition he'll be up against, especially in this global pandemic and the aftermath that will ensue.
Sadly I agree. I was thinking he would make a great "Bond", but he seems to be devoid of any perceivable personality. He's sexy and handsome but that's about it.

Aussies speaks in this way only their accent is difficult to catch. He is aussie.
Stapleton is incapable to formulate a complete phrase. I think he's the less intelligent actor I ever seen.
