The fault with Virilo's analysis is that speed has been around for more than four thousand years since man domesticated the horse and invented the chariot. The motor vehicle was simply the replacement of the independent travel provided by the singular riden horse or horse drawn carriage, cart or buggy. Things have only sped up since the dawn of the age of fossil fuels.
