...fuck you. Fuck you! I've already given money to Archvillain games! You mean I gotta give them MORE MONEY??? Those sculpts are so awesome! I don't even own a 3D printer yet! ...you win this round, buddy...you win this round. (Awesome content as always; I'm just salty that you've advertised such great models. I thought Frostburn Horrors was enough!)
Back to the classics! I love this approach, and these little "fairy lights" are so perfect for this! Also, thanks for turning us on to Archvillian! This month's release is NUTS and these mindflayer models are unbelievably cool!
There must be a thing called "fancy crafter syndrome" where we get caught up in using specialized products and trying to make a new favorite material work, when really the old basics were what we needed right from the start. Great video man!
I really do need to do more stuff with LEDs. Making glowing magic crystals was fun. That rune-tile really seems more like an altar or something that I'd put on TOP of a tile. But I spose it works either way!
I've been waiting for this since I first started watching your videos! Thank you for inspiring me to get into the hobby and tabletop gaming. Now let's see a mega collaboration project with you, Real Terrain Hobbies, Miniac, and Goobertown Hobbies.
Red/orange lights and make the top a grate and it could be a grate that goes over lava. Trap door to a lava pit or add to a volcanic mountain dungeon crawl for effect.
Your sponsor is really hitting that Baldur's Gate 3 vibe! - This project, like nearly every other project, gives me so many tools and ideas for things I will do, even if they will not be exactly the project in the video. - Those lights would be great, I think, to attack to a tree armature (I was given about a dozen with no foliage attached yet) under foliage to represent a faerie tree or maybe a swamp tree infested with will'o'wisps and draped with hanging strands of Spanish moss.. - edit: lights ordered!
If you wanted to make a removable top for it, it would likely be a good idea to attach the top and middle pieces together and then attach them to the base with magnets. You could add rigidity to the top piece by putting a thin piece of clear plastic under it, which could be scuffed with a red scotchbrite to help diffuse the light some.
One day I'll get into using LEDs in stuff, maybe these lights I'll actually take the plunge. Really cool tile you made. If you know of any 5min epoxy that doesn't smell like burned hair's dirty diaper, let me know :D
It's a bit pricey for what you get, but Alumilite makes an Amazing Casting Resin (that's literally what it's called) and while I haven't tried the clear version, the white stuff sets in like 5 minutes, fully cures after 15 minutes, and doesn't smell like burned hair's dirty diaper. It does *not* like water, so be warned.
@@CubicApocalypse128 yea, Smooth On has many super fast resins too. The problem with resin is that it often reacts very badly to a lot of additives for colour. That's why EPOXY is a lot safer to use...but it's often stinky and thick.
Another cool concept that is simple(-ish) in the execution, but looks great and is viable for all sorts of uses. After watching Real Terrain Hobbies vs. Jazza,, I totally want to see what you could accomplish in the same challenge conditions (trash, AP starter paint set, AP terrain basics kit, 1 12x12 sheet of dollar tree foam core, some cork sheet and miiliput).
I used them the length the came as. They are fairly long, hence the tedious task of installing them neatly shown in the video. That being said, you can just cut them if you need to.
I simply love it when you and other Content Creators revisit some of your older videos with new takes on the basic idea along with using new techniques, materials and ideas. Nicely done Jeremy and thank you!
Channeling your inner Table Top Witchcraft, I like it. As cheap and easy as LEDs are to get and work with, it’s an easy way to add that extra level of awesome to your builds.
Hi! My husband is getting really into terrain and minis. I would love to put together a DIY starter set for him for Christmas, based around your videos and techniques. So far I've got - foam board (lots), hot glue gun, pva glue, cardboard, paints, acrylic caulking, baking soda....what other things would you include? I would like for him to be able to make tiles as well as buildings/3-d terrain. Thanks for any help in advance. I love watching your channel even though I have little time for crafting it all right now.
Descent Into Madness mini look awesome.....hoping you have some to display..(see scale too)...especially werewolf....and mind flayers with other no name brands
Awesome video mate. A square of acrylic sheeting would bypass the need for any liquids being poured in. You could scuff the surface to get the right diffusion of light.
I use lots of materials. They are all explained in the videos. For commonly used ones I suggest watching my series of basics videos and checking out the essential equipment page I always mention :)
I really appreciate that do much of your stuff is available from Dollarama. I have 4 all in close proximity and eithoutvyour vids I'd never have known they had a decent amount of supplies. I didn't even know they had Mod Podge. So again, thank you.
Wow you have just opened up possibilities unknown. Glowing portals in doors and on walls. Altars lit from within. Yee gods man! Do you know what madness you have unleashed?!😉
Cool, you briefly thought about making a whole set of these with different arcane emblems, Spell traps like Symbol of Death, Weakness, Fear, Persuasion, Pain, and Flame. The symbols seem to be open for interpretation, but the research might be fun. Imagine your gamers stepping onto a tile, you immediately inform them that a saving throw must be made, while they are rolling you replace the tiles with your 3X3 symbol, the players hold breath waiting to see what the emblem might reveal. *phew* a Slowing spell trap, it could have been worse. Damn it Rouge why didn't you search this room. I'm new to your page and am trying to catch up on everything you do. Very enjoyable channel.
Yes, I’ve watched your videos and they are wonderful! You do amazing work and I along with THOUSANDS of others do too. Yah but to see the trees and a cottage and a trap I have to watch at least 3 videos. I’m not on patreon, sorry, . I’m just some shuck on vancouver island who watches your channel and website. Maybe put it out there if anyone would like to see a tour of your artistic talents. At least it’s a possible video topic.
cool video Jeremy. I've done a similar project posted on Scotty's Facebook group I used glow in the dark paint. I've always wanted to come back to that project and use EL wire or EL luminated sheets.
don't know if it helps but there's LED EVA foam that is used in cosplay and prop making that is thin enough so when a coloured LED is placed under it, the colour is displaced making it look better, might be useful if you try a foam LED project again
Very nicely done. Those fairy lights could have a hundred different uses. Already matches well to an idea I had for a temple of Tiamat (purple lights for the black dragon, matching perfectly for the other chromatics).
Hmm, I've been thinking of doing a see-through/mesh pathway over an immeasurable black depth with lights/stars far below (while not actually having the tile be far too thick to be usable). This gives me an idea for how to do it... not certain I actually will anytime soon though, as I am trying not to start even more projects that will never be finished.
cool video as always. I like it when you leverage tools, like the proxxon to its fullest, this is really where it shines being able to make super clean very precise cuts. The tile turned out really well! The sponsor minis look great, on point for all those BG3 players out there. the nautiloid ship looks b-b-bonkers! Thats right, so bonkers it just made me stutter! its that cool! Have you messed around with colored resin for your 3D printer? I've seen some really great glow effects done by using the translucent green resin and clever painting. Great work sir!
Pretty awesome I looked at the worlock tiles and go man 50 bucks is it worth it, then see the amount of work you can put in if you dont want to spend that much...but gives appreaciton that 50 isnt that much if you dont want to do it your self.
One of your simpler ideas, but so well executed! There's no way that players won't all go "woah!" when that tile is revealed. In a year. When we can play again in person 😩
@3:40 my brain was screaming "wait, why is he not using clear epoxy!?" lo and behold, often simplest is best-est. but thanks for leaving those mis steps in the video because we all learn from them.
You call this gimmicky, i call it useful. Especially if its related to something you use alot as a dm, like wizard villains. Imagine if you hooked up some color shifting leds in there instead, and made a set of decently matching runes, like different arcane symbols that are similar enough to be a matching set. Perfect for generalized arcabe villain hideouts.
I have not played any of the d&d style games or whatever you're referring to but I think the LED tile looks really good I'm thinking of like the dark crystal where everything else is pretty much around it completely dark except for the fiery pit way down below and then this purple crystal rising up out of those colors that's what that kind of reminds me of but not the same just kind of
To be fair? Keep trying new ways. You know a way to fall back on, but trying new things and failing, is the only way you will try a new thing and succeed.
Great tutorial as always! I got into crafting after discovering your videos. Iive in your region so getting what you use is easy. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great videos!!
You have single-handedly turned me into a crafty bastard. Finishing my first set of tiles and columns right now. Starting on ruined wall sections as soon as the hot-wire table arrives later today. These lit arcane tiles are on the list to make next!
This would be a great story feature if you could make one of these or something like it with remote toggleable leds. The party solves an important puzzle or the big bad guy starts some kind of summoning ritual and the runes start to glow without having to take the tile out and flip the switch, love how these kinds of things just inspire more and more ideas
I working on a pond with dollar store epoxy resin and I have plastic fake plants in it and I worried off I pour it it'll heat up and melt it because I did a test in a small container and it got so hot , does anyone have any suggestions? maybe doing thin layers ?

Good old epoxy.
This is an algorithmically required comment. However, this is also a pretty sweet build idea! Gives me some ideas for other stuff.
This reply is also algorithmically required!
Don’t forget to like and comment to appease the almighty algorithm
I know right... I hate asking people to do that on my videos... but the almighty algorithm rules...
All hail the algorithm
The Algorithm is life.

They honestly look like something plastic like warlock tiles at first glance. Such great work man!
I really do need to do more stuff with LEDs. Making glowing magic crystals was fun. That rune-tile really seems more like an altar or something that I'd put on TOP of a tile. But I spose it works either way!
Why not both? :D And it also works upright as a portal or glowing run on a wall. The weight of the epoxy makes it pretty stable standing like that.
I was thinking a glowing magic circle holding in a demon. ;)
That looks so cool, I love using the led string lights, so cheap and last ages =)
Simple yet elegant. Nice job and great vid Jeremy 🙂
this works best as an "arcane trap" and will glow ones you step on it..
I've been waiting for this since I first started watching your videos! Thank you for inspiring me to get into the hobby and tabletop gaming. Now let's see a mega collaboration project with you, Real Terrain Hobbies, Miniac, and Goobertown Hobbies.
This is so damn cool!
Y'know, a pentagram with red led lights would look amazing, right?
THIS IS CORRECT
Red/orange lights and make the top a grate and it could be a grate that goes over lava. Trap door to a lava pit or add to a volcanic mountain dungeon crawl for effect.
I was just thinking that
“Every once in a while you just gotta give in and build yourself a gimmicky prop, just because it’s cool”
You’re goddamn right
Your sponsor is really hitting that Baldur's Gate 3 vibe!

requesting vid where another youtuber sends you mystery supplies that you have to incorporate into some type of badass scenic piece

Did you somehow shorten the LED string as it doesn't look to be 7 ft long. If so how did you go about it. Great video.
I used them the length the came as. They are fairly long, hence the tedious task of installing them neatly shown in the video. That being said, you can just cut them if you need to.
Super effective!

Grabbed some string lights. Lots of possibilities! GREAT build this week! All hail 5-min epoxy!!!!! Cheers!

Maybe you could defuse the light by "frosting" the epoxy with a quick pass on rough sandpaper
Now I'm trying to figure out how to use this in my games, even though I play almost exclusively historical stuff...
That sponsors models. That Illithid Spelljammer! Wow! That was so cool!
Ha! Ive been thinking about this very thing recently... tiles with grating above lava, or something glowing... This is really cool!
The models made me think of BG3. I'd love to get the models, but I don't have a 3D printer, so it'd be useless. Darn. :(
@3:40 my brain was screaming "wait, why is he not using clear epoxy!?"

Man when I can afford a place big enough for my own workspace (with ample storage for all my builds) I'm gonna make so many of these projects
I love this build. Super cool looking, and super easy to build. Awesome!
too much work for tiles for me, but I'd totally use similar techniques to make pillars, altars, thrones, doorways, etc

Nice work! Sick paint job on that mindflayer mini too!🤙🏼
I would love to make this for my dolls, can you tell me how i could get started the best ? the dolls are 30 centimeters tall. thanks ^^
Great video!
Nice mood setter for making great emersive environent.
Any thaugts about baldurs gate 3?
I plan on making this for my Homebrew campaign and I wanna use LEDs that has a color control setting.
This was a great application for the lighting. Genuinely thinking about doing something similar.
I think it was The Sword and Steel UA-cam channel reviewed a product like this with interchangeable tops and it changed colors as well.

archvillan is one of the very few patreons i keep paying month after month, amazing sculpts
the intro was so cooooooooooooooool
amazing build, its always cool to see you try stuff and redo something if it doesnt work out!!! :D
Love this idea! Silicone finger tips will save you some burns.
You have single-handedly turned me into a crafty bastard. Finishing my first set of tiles and columns right now. Starting on ruined wall sections as soon as the hot-wire table arrives later today. These lit arcane tiles are on the list to make next!
Love this gimmicky stuff. Seriously so fun to drop on the table serving no other function than looking cool 😎
Love you going back to those tiles. It was what you were making when I first started watching and it’s just whaT I still associate with this channel
I know you said it's gimmicky but I really like it. Nice job.
Thanks for sharing this. It was really cool. I will be trying it! Thanks again for the idea. Stay safe

I would really like to start incorporating lights into my stuff and this gives me some inspiration to do so. Thank you!
WHY the thumbs down this was a Great Idea!! Now that you know how not to make it you should be able to make more quicker.
I working on a pond with dollar store epoxy resin and I have plastic fake plants in it and I worried off I pour it it'll heat up and melt it because I did a test in a small container and it got so hot , does anyone have any suggestions? maybe doing thin layers ?
Love it! Very happy to get more tutorials on stuff to plug into your standard 3x3 tile system.
What if you were to use UV-reactive clearcoat or even hairspray on an otherwise ordinary tile, and then shine a blacklight over it?
Nice! I love light up things....something else to add to my ‘oooh want one’ build list lol
Oh man, those mindflayer minis look SICK!
I really appreciate you including the things that didnt go quite right in your videos. It helps a ton!
As soon as I saw you put on gloss gel, I winced. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite tools, but it takes a week to cure.
Milk jug plastic also works great as a diffuser and would make it easier to construct a tile designed to have the top layer swapped out.
I had 2 choices, watch the video or go into my collage zoom call... I thought the video was great!
Solid video dude! Love the method, love seeing the learning, and damn do I want to play in a game with your props! XD
If you put resin over the battery compartment how do you change the batteries?
Another great video! Can't wait to dive in and start making some stuff for myself
