Lovely drawing, Paul. I really do love sketching. I hate sharpening pencils though! So many times you sharpen and the lead inside is broken! 😡 so now I mostly stick to mechanical pencils. I have been interested in trying these though because of the varying softness of lead. Maybe I’ll have to give them a go.

Oh yes Paul, I would love to see you have a drawing channel! It’s fascinating watching you sketch, I’m watching your new video right now. I didn’t want to forget to tell you, so I paused the video. When I first saw the photo of what you were going to sketch, I thought was very ambitious of you. Never had any doubts that you could sketch it, mind you. It amazes me how you move around on the paper and capture the image so easily. Well, I’ve got to get back to watching you complete this drawing and can’t wait to see your sketchbook!! Definitely yes please to drawing videos! The Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black are a similar type of matt pencil that I've used quite a lot.

I watched every second of this! ❤ Drawing is a fundamental of art and it’s worth practicing. A drawing channel would be awesome! You gave me something to think about that I hadn’t before: move around the whole page filling in a little bit but not spending too much time in one spot. Great insights on process. Yes, a drawing channel would be good. I do a little drawing in the evening when the Tv is on, it stops me dozing off! Again, it's about editing out the superfluous and retaining the interesting. Nice selection of music in Valse Francais style.

Wonderful Paul! As a pet portraitist I often trace my work because I know if I’m slightly out with eyes, nose and mouth it just looks wrong, but I am trying to sketch more freehand for landscapes and architectural painting. I’ve never tried to just do a big drawing like this though, so will give it a go! Thanks again.

Today's wonderful drawing lesson was an interesting experience for me because it brought back some wonderful memories...but also some guilt feelings. Years ago the university I attended always held a big juried art show during graduation week, at which they awarded the Commencement Art Prize given out at the ceremony, a big deal because our uni was known for its Art Department. Well, the year I graduated, I won the Prize with a drawing...Shock! Yes, it won over oil and watercolor paintings which apparently caused some consternation and controversy with the university's Art Museum administration which housed the show. I remember my art professors had to explain and justify their decision. A drawing just couldn't be as 'important' as a painting!
Now to the guilt part....I loved to draw in those days and had really perfected my skill, but over the years, somehow I let drawing for its own sake slip away. I've always painted, but just started doing enough sketching to give guidelines for my compositions, but mostly 'drawing' with my paintbrush, so to speak, even with more complicated watercolor paintings. No drawing for drawing's sake! You've awakened my desire to regain the pleasure that I used to get from drawing....Thanks!

I knew as soon as I saw it that it was Flavigny ! Kind of on my doorstep ( well a 50 minute drive ) and a place l went to as a child, a time when the ' Anis de Flavigny ' were very popular, and it so happens my mother didn't consider them as real sweets so they were not forbidden!!
Even though it's out of my reach ( buildings AND lots of details!) I may try this one sooner or later 😉
