We returned home an hour ago from driving the Palouse on a mild spring day, puffy clouds in a blue sky, and rounded hills in green, dark green, clear soil, soil that looked like coffee grounds--all SO BEAUTIFUL! I had this thought: If this is what a dying Earth looks like, what indeed will Heaven be like!? It's glorious.
As a kid, I watched the movie "Toys" with Robin Williams. The toy factory was in an area of rolling green hills and fields, truly beautiful. I didn't think it was a real location, until I researched and discovered those external scenes featuring the fields, where filmed in this region. As I'm in Australia, will be a while before I visit the states again, but this is on my list. Thanks for your video.
I lived in the Palouse for 6 years and never visited Steptoe Butte. Watching your video fills me with regret that I never made that trip. Now I will be sure to visit if I ever find myself back in the region.
Thank you for putting this Palouse video together. I really enjoyed it and it's given me some ideas on where to go for my own photo-journey there soon.
All details about time to visit and view points are in the video. For a perfect photo, make use of morning/evening golden sunlight. I have used polarizing filter in some pictures, but no editing in Photoshop. When taking portraits, remember to take a full picture also , otherwise friends say it's a backdrop... Lol, it happened to me.
We never had any road issues from Falls to Steptoe. But get full tank fuel & plan for fuel stops. I am not sure what will be the farmland view now. I think the harvest might be over by now, but you might get a colorful Sunrise/set due to the wildfires, hazy sky. Have a nice trip.
The earliest we went there was in May end. So we are not sure how it will be in April. The Palouse falls will be great with lots of water for sure. If you will go there only once then go in June. Otherwise you can visit Ginkgo State park, Palouse falls park, Steptoe Butte Sunset. There are some early harvesting fields which should be green. Now I am getting curious to go there in April to see what’s there.
Beginning of July, definitely will find green fields. End of July is harvest time, many fields will be golden brown. July is when the mixed color green/brown happens and it is a beautiful view from top, like from Steptoe Butte state park. If possible, plan to visit early or mid July.
