- In this video I give you 3 tips plus one bonus tip for adding width to your Axial SCX24 crawler. I get asked very frequently how I get my crawlers to be so wide. This video answers that question and details my favorite methods for adding width to my SCX24's. Adding width with these upgrades is a great way to improve performance by way of increased stability, articulation, and weight addition. Plus, it just looks good!

This was really helpful to me because I’m building up a deadbolt just now , I’m going to be looking in to ways of widening the axles next , I’m just waiting on some parts from injora to get here so I can continue with the car , I’ve got quite a few crawlers like Trx-4 trucks - Trx-6 - Traction hobby - Cross rc Gaz 66 all 1/10 - 1/8 - 1/12 scale and I find the larger trucks are a lot more forgiving with climbing and side slopes but the little scx24 needs that bit more attention to get things just right , the double barrel shocks took such a long time to get them to move smoothly I was very close to giving up on them but after many attempts and a lot of thinking mine are as smooth as silk , you have none of this with the larger scale trucks so the Scx24 is in my opinion a more challenging truck to build but boy do you feel good when you do solve a problem , keep the videos coming they are the best on UA-cam for this little truck really helpful, stay safe mate 🇬🇧
Thanks Keith! You are so right about the satisfaction of solving a performance problem. I think that’s my favorite aspect of this hobby. I’m addicted to tuning and tinkering!
Awesome. Finally got my deep dishes in the mail and gonna set my wheels up today! Thanks CAPE CRAWLERS. Enjoy the videos 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks for watching!
A very useful video. Appreciate you sharing your experience
Nice video and clear explanations, appreciated :)
Thank you, I am glad it was helpful!
I appreciate sharing the tips, love my deep dish rims, specially my new mofo RC super deep dish aluminum bead lock rims, I ordered them with +3 Way too much with so I ordered 0° hubs they are awesome just got my new wheel nuts in brass and stainless steel they are longer nuts to mount up to my FCX 24 power wagon and the output shaft are thickerFinally got a mounted up to my power wagon, again appreciate your videos catch on the next one
Thanks for the info on the mofo wheels! I would like to try those but I am skeptical about what offset to get.
As always great info and thank you sir for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great tip on the deep dish wheels, thanks! 👍🏼
Love those wheels for that reason!
Perfect video as usual!
I started with +4 Axles and wider tires.
Than i got Mofo Rc Ultra DDP Wheels and +6mm HEX. And that was too crazy😂 Articulation was great, but i really dont like look. So i get +3mm hex for same Ultra DDP Wheels and cant be more happier. 👍🏻 And Wheels Island Spacers are great too - little extra weight + wight.
But performance change significantly. No side rolls at all
Thank you! I need to get my hands on some of those mofo DDP wheels. I appreciate the feedback about the offsets because I was unclear what size to get. +3mm sounds like the sweet spot!
@@CapeCrawlers Mofo Rc Ultra DDP wheel + 0 mm hub basically same as Injora wheel with hub backwards. Cool thing, that now you can have brass hubs😀👍🏻
I've bought three Axial scx24 in the last month due to watching Cape Crawlers builds.
I’m a terrible influence 😂
Another great video Adam.
Thank you!
Hello! When you explqined the scrub radius, you've made a small mistake: you spoke about the shock axis, that's true on a Mac Pherson design, but here it's about the axis which the knuckle turn around., like on an double wishbone design. 😉
Great ideas thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great informative video 👍 like your videos
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'd recommend a higher torque Servo and Motor for this weight. Reduced gearing also. Excellent videos!
That is a lot of useful information. Thanks for that. I came to know about your channel thru your trx4m mods. I am wondering why I don't see any of your recommendations/mods on trx4 (1/10 scale)!🙂
I also have a trx4 2021 bronco and i recently installed those +10mm wheel hub extension from Treal. While they do look great, I feel it may be causing some rub on the bumpers. Not sure if it has made steeing control a bit uneven too(on 2nd gear) or if it is just a psychological thing in my case
I have never laid my hands on a TRX4 actually! I would like to in order to get some comparison and a broader knowledge base. I know that added track width on the scx10 creates the same issues you're running into with the rubbing. Not sure about the steering control
What’s goin on man, love your vids and follow you on instagram but I just had to mention that when you mention wheelbase your interpreting it wrong. Wheelbase is the distance from front tire to rear tire. You are showing how to expand track on the vehicle; the distance between front tires or rear tires separately per axle. Love the content tho brotha 🤙🏼
You’re right and I often incorrectly use the two terms interchangeably. Now I’m going to have to change my thumbnail! 🤣
@@CapeCrawlers lol i kinda figured you did honestly lol, anyways man love the footage!
I have the gladiator scx24 that I am swapping to the Ir40 body and I want to get axles when I do and swap the servo. I’m torn between the meus 3pc and the injora axles is either one have any benefits over the other love ur videos so much info
Hello lov the vids
Thanks for watching!
Nice video
Shut up
I knowwwwww youuuuu
Thanks!
Informative video as usual. Have you seen the Injora Deep dish wheels? I’ve only seen the on Injora’s website. I ordered a set to check them out. Guess they’ll be here in a month or so.
Thanks! No, I haven’t seen those in person. Mofo RC makes wheels with custom offsets too that I would like to try eventually as well.
I’m running the Injora deep dish wheels. I like them. I did have some issues mounting some RC4WD Patagonias but no issues out of the LGRP or Injora tires. Very little difference in running the hubs flipped. Both ways are pretty deep and the hub face it pretty flush with the back of the wheel.
I love my Injora extended axles, they are awesome! I have both the Injora and rc4wd stamped steel wheels, and I found I couldn't install the center ring on some of my wide tires because the two halves of the wheel wouldn't come together. Is there a trick I don't know about maybe? Great video once again Adam, take care!!!
dang, when i read this comment i thought i was reading my own that i had just posted. I bought both of them too. I had that exact problem. Good question! :P
I think I’m going to get the injoras for the bronco build. Can you get the wheels together but they won’t hold the bead? I’ve only run into this with the scramblers. I have to be so delicate tightening the wheels down otherwise I lose the tire. But I’ve mounted trail kings and swamp kings on both sets of these wheels with no issues.
@@CapeCrawlers No with the center ring in I wasn't able to get the front and back to meet in the middle. It's like the ring is too wide or something. Could be user error, I'll try again and see if I can mount my Trail Kings to some of the Injora wheels.
@Trevor Park Jones they come with like 4 longer screws, you are supposed to us 2 long ones to bet it connected and tightened down a bit, then put in 4 of the smaller ones, back the 2 longer ones out that you used to suck them together and replace with 2 smaller ones and repeat the process for each tire
@@notapplicable5931 Yeah I finally figured it out. Thank you though!
Dude , you make me feel completely ok for spending so much time & $ on the hobby . Lol .
I support your spending habits
Hey, off topic but wondering if you could do a in-depth video on what are reasons for snapping dog bones. I’ve broke at least 6 in last few months, mind you my rig is super modded but I just can’t find the cause. Thanks love your channel keep it up my friend!
Thanks for watching! I will look into that.
17:50, i wonder if reversing those rims does not but too much leverage on the axles, i just realized that one axle is bent after only running three battery loadings in the living room. I think those axles really are the number one weak point but was also wondering if it is a good idea to reverse those deep dish rims. (Ordered YR replacement axles, will see if it happens again)
It’s very possible. The axles do bend pretty easily unless you get upgraded units. I bent my hot racing ones pretty quickly but my rcawd and mofo RC ones have held up well.
Hey boss what tires do you have on that gladiator ? I’ve been looking for some but don’t know where to look
These are the LGRP swamp kings. Awesome tires!
I'm trying to make my Axial scx6 wider. Any tips or part numbers anyone ??
I dont have any experience with the SCX6 so I am going to throw this one out to the community. I hope someone chimes in!
Thanks a bunch.
Hi,
I just upgraded my deadbolt scx24 with rcgf axel, before I installed it then it was working just fine... After the installation, it is going backwards... If I pull the trigger it goes rear if I push the trigger it goes front... Somebody knows how to fix it
I have a set of Injora deep dish steelies like your gladiator, and I have always hated working on them (I bought the RC4WD ones thinking I might have an easier time, no luck). Do you have a trick to working with them?
I got really fed up and went with some SSD wheels, but no possibility of flipping them unfortunately.
Great video, dude. This is invaluable information for those starting out.
Thanks for watching! The stamped steel wheels, regardless of brand, are a nightmare to work on. I have had success working on a glass table so that I can look down and see when the holes are aligned. One tip is to use a paper clip to help keep them lined up. Stick the paper clip through one or two holes, then start threading another. But regardless, they’re pretty frustrating. Worth it though!
Bent paper clip method all day. Why do people have such a hard time with steelies?? Great wheels, not hard to assemble with this method.
@@bcochener maybe its relative? those were my first wheel, and I struggled with it on day 0. then i bought some beadlocks from SSD and i could take them apart in my sleep. im just not super good at dealing with small stuff.
I eventually figured out the paperclip method (or really the M1.4 bolt method as the steelie bolts are bigger), but I'd still say the SSD wheels are easier to handle.
the 1.9" guys have tools to get their beadlocks on (i know because I bought one before I realized it was for a different wheel size entirely (again, I was new)). why hasn't anybody come out with one for us?
hey Adam question?
I'm at the beach right now and I was going to do a video on my fcx24 on the beach but before I could I was driving it around the yard and house and my servo horn rounded out, so the servo turns but I doesn't grab the horn is there an upgrade or something I can do like an upgraded horn or just a whole new steering servo setup like from injora?
My sons is starting to round out too. The tooth count on the stock FMS servo isn’t the same as an Emax I don’t think, but there are still aluminum upgrades out there if you want to put a new horn on the stock servo. The Emax servo will fit in the tray I believe, so you can do an Emax upgrade with the aluminum horn.
@@CapeCrawlers thanks i was really hoping to get a video in with it at the beach but i was to late
@@CapeCrawlers I'm going to swap my emax on to it and see if it works ill let you know if it does so you can save some time!
I looked into swapping the emax ,I think it fits but the connecter has the wrong end, so if you can solder it might work but I'm not good at soldering so I'm not going to take a chance🤣
Those RC4WD wheels are REALLY difficult to assemble (I actually gave up and threw them in the trash).
Just advice to others that there may be better options (ie Injora)
So i bought the treal rc wheel weight/ hex extension and im having trouble fitting it with my rc4wd wheels. Any tips?
The rc4wd wheels, especially the stamped steels, are notoriously hard to get hex extensions in. I have to use a rubber mallet and/or maximum effort to get them seated. I’ve heard of folks very slightly grinding down the hexes to get them to fit more smoothly, but out of the box they are a TIGHT fit.
@@CapeCrawlers Thanks i will try my best to fit them or just put them on a different crawler
were did you get the tires on the gladiator
These are the new little guy racing parts swamp kings. I get them directly from their website
I like the look of the wheels that you have mounted to the vehicle. So I know that they are the Injora stamped steel beadlocks. I looked on the website and they have a black version and a dark gray version. Do you happen to know which ones you have on the vehicle? I noticed the one you grabbed to demonstrate look darker than the ones mounted to the vehicle. On Amazon they have both the black and the dark gray but the dark gray is like a month out for delivery so I just want to be sure I'm getting the same ones that you have on the vehicle. If you can remember which ones you purchased I would appreciate it. Thank you
I got the dark gray ones. They’ve got a nice anthracite color to them and I like them a lot.
@@CapeCrawlers yes I like the look of those dark gray ones also. The Injora website calls them gunmetal. One other thing I've been searching around for those chrome cvd axles that you recommend in the video. The link in the description takes me to a website with no option to purchase and I can't seem to find them anywhere else. Do you think they have been discontinued? If they are better than the others and the ones that you recommend I would like to purchase those. Do you know where else I can get them? Or an alternative of the same quality?
@@cmkpikes Looks like RCAWD revamped their website. Here is the link to the CVD's: rcawd.com/collections/axial-scx24-crawler-upgrade-parts/products/axial-scx24-4mm-wide-40cr-mo-steel-cvd-axle-and-hex-combo-set-rcawd
@@CapeCrawlers yeah it's weird when I follow the link that you sent me I can see the pictures of them but all the boxes are empty that would show the price or add them to the cart. The standard length ones that are at the bottom under the you might also like option seem to work just fine. But like I said the extended length ones have no option to purchase. Maybe I'll have to just try to reach out to them in email or something.
@@CapeCrawlers never mind. I don't know what was happening before but I just left your link again and everything seems to work fine. I can add them to the cart and purchase them. Thanks for the help Bud
Do the treal hex extensions fit 7mm hub injora beadlock wheels?
I ran the treal hex extensions in two different styles of Injora beadlocks and they fit perfectly in both
Awesome, love the videos btw, they have become my main source info on upgrades and performance.
Since I've added the ported axial I've blown 5 stock motors any ideas as to way
Yikes! That sounds like something is over tightened. Wheel nuts maybe? Stock motors are weak, but the portals should cause enough drag to damage motors. When you change the motors, are you possibly over tightening the nut on the transmission gear? I was doing this on my c10 and went threw multiple motors before I figured it out.
I will give that a try thanks
Stock motors are for climbing for a few minutes.they never planned on people taking these things trailing..go brushless
Do you run no foams in the tires?
I run Flubberstufferz slymeballz in the gladiator. But I like the Crawler Innovations lil nova foams as well.
Hey what offset steelies do you have?
I have the Injora stamped steelies on the gladiator and RC4WD on my other rigs.
I have stearing problems is humping when i turn left like jumping goin right its kind of ok need help
Just so I understand: when you turn left it’s pushing/jumping right. Is that what you mean?
@@CapeCrawlers yeah you the man what do i need to do to improve more stearing
What are the tires I’m Tryna get these on my jlu
LGRP swamp kings. Love them!
@@CapeCrawlers thanks
the Injoras don't add as much width than the RC4WDs, very little difference when reversed - damn just noticed that i had ordered the wrong ones, i ordered "negative offset" because it had a big red banner "deep dish" on the picture but those are the ones that sit in the middle, theres another variant that seem to be like the RC4WDs.
You’re correct: the claimed deep dish ones don’t have the same benefits when reversed. The regular stamped steel Injoras behave just like the rc4wd wheels. Too many choices!
never mind, found it here!
Injora axel are poor quality...
It's not too surprising given how inexpensive their stuff is. I've not gotten my hands on the Injora axles yet. I just got the new billet LGRP Super 8's and they are amazing!
@@CapeCrawlers what's the brand? I'm looking to upgrade my axels. Witch one do you recommend ?
@@gcmotive Little Guy Racing Parts. I'm a big supporter of their products. I think they're doing really great things in the 1/24 space.
