Hey three years in the future. Friday nights is coming back. According to the July 2023 update crowdfunding campaign in fall of 2023 and production in q1 2024
Legend has it, he was some sort of Elder God, that got trapped in plane until he could finally best the Steppe Lynx. And this plane slowly sucked away his power and intelligence.
Oh I definitely know he means Magic Cards. When people ages 25-35 talk about cards they had from the childhood, it typically means cards from the first couple sets. The joke here is Graham says he still has ALL his cards from grade six, and the last thing he needs is more, but he may be unaware that he has hundreds or even a couple thousand dollars worth of cards.
Holy cow, I never noticed that Kathleen pops up in the background at the very end of them all meeting each other in Yellowjacket! Rewatching this for the 10th time payed off!
Holy cow I didn’t even see her. Thanks for pointing her out. To be fair to me I watch these videos on an iPhone and the small screen does not help with seeing small details.
The fact that I'm not into MTG, and have no idea what you are doing but still enjoy the hell out of content like this just goes to show how awesome you guys are! Love your videos.
This is the episode that Introduced me to Magic's existence. Which is honestly just bad marketing on WOTC'S part cause I was 18 at the time and had been playing yugioh for like a decade.
This was my first LRR Video I had just gotten into MTG and saw this pop up on the Escapist. At this point 10 years of playing MTG and watching LRR completely worth it :)
I had totally forgotten about “so i gave her one of THESE” I just had to pause for laughing. Also I’m just starting a Friday Nights re watch cause it’s been a while. It’s early 2022 and it’s terrifying to me the age of this video….. and myself. Thank you LRR for all these years of content, from daily drop to checkpoint, you’ve kept my spirits up for years 😊 xx
I have watched this video probably ten times (on that other channel that somehow came by your clip) and NEVER EVEN NOTICED Kathleen peeking out in the background at 4:51. Wow. HD really does do something.
Holy feck, has it really been nearly 7 years?!?! Even after watching so many years of hustle and friday nights, I still haven't gotten around to learning to play Magic so I can get half the jokes, I am a lazy tosspot.....
Was wondering when this would get uploaded on here. One of my favorite CH's. Still rewatch it from time to time. Alex is amazing this whole episode and Graham's deadpan, "Is Magic real and are you a wizard?" is always funny.
The episode of Friday Nights that WotC doesn’t want you to see 🤣 this was the best one too. I know it’s not “technically” Friday Nights but it’s how the series was born. I also like the edgier jokes
Alex drawing exactly what he needs and Matt continuously drawing/playing lands is a very apt summary of my Magic The Gathering: Arena experiences so far.
Ahh yes, the video that literally got me into Magic. So glad I was able to find it again and that they were able to bring it to youtube. I have no idea why I just searched this up again tho.
Friday Nights: Origins
Thurday Night
PipeFoxDream Friday Afternoon, 3, Maybe 3:30, You Guys Wanna Play Magic?
How do you want to do this?
"Course Graham, there is magic everywhere in this bitch." Today this is still one of my favorite lines from you guys.
"It's mostly magnets."
"Well how do they work?"
I can feel the 2010 in this video.
Emery Animates If you remember the meme, then isn't it a good one?
Fuckin' magnets.
How do they work??
Also "everywhere in this bitch" is from the same song iirc
tastes like Faygo.
I finally understand Alex’s fear of “Plains, Steppe Lynx” in future episodes
“It’s magic!”
“The Gathering”
I’m going to miss this
They said they're still going to make these on their mtg channel, only without wotc sponsorship
@@orencohen9635 the plan was to begin filming around this time but they have done nothing because of corona.
@@tues2455 really hope they do an episode where everyone meets on zoom.
@@Lotties_handsaw
then Kathleen needs a Steppe Lynx avatar on zoom
Hey three years in the future. Friday nights is coming back. According to the July 2023 update crowdfunding campaign in fall of 2023 and production in q1 2024
The episode that started it all...and gave us Graham's pitch-perfect deadpan on, "Is magic real, and are you a wizard."
Yes Graham there's magic every where in this bitch
...I believe you.
I have giffed it imgur.com/RInJUqf
A very good scene indeed
i may be making that my text tone.
"Plains, Steppe Lynx."
"I concede."
The greatest of turn 1s.
Jen PW steppe lynx into a fetchland turn two
Alex: "and now you can't cast spells ever."
James: "I actually enjoy my time playing with you"
Maybe except that one time.
really though, everyone should experience iona-painter's servant once
ohhhhh just realised that's why he concedes to t1 steppe lynx in the latest episode! it makes sense now
He finaly beats it too and . . . Hes free now :(
I feel like t1 steppe lynx is a universal experience amongst mtg players
It's funny to think that in the cH-verse, Alex went from this to Derplord in just a few years.
Magic, not even once.
dragonbretheren "DErp dERp DeRp I'm Alex and this is how I tALk"
Legend has it, he was some sort of Elder God, that got trapped in plane until he could finally best the Steppe Lynx. And this plane slowly sucked away his power and intelligence.
I blame Paul's experiments
Oh god, everyone is so young and thin it's kind of unnerving.
@ThatGuyWithThe Piano James has always looked like that
GRAHAM
What cards do you have left over from grade six!?
WHAT CARDS GRAHAM!?
Oh I definitely know he means Magic Cards. When people ages 25-35 talk about cards they had from the childhood, it typically means cards from the first couple sets. The joke here is Graham says he still has ALL his cards from grade six, and the last thing he needs is more, but he may be unaware that he has hundreds or even a couple thousand dollars worth of cards.
Yeah, but they're cards he probably PLAYED at grade 6.
How many kids do you think are even aware of "card sleeves"?
Oh, nothing important. Some cheap blue spells, some kind of emerald and a couple of dark flowers. I don't think any of them will fit in Boros.
Before this moment, I never noticed Kathleen at 4:51.
Good catch! Also, at 3:10 you can see Alex's name is spelled Arex on the life counter.
I still love the introduction of Alex as an all-knowing card wizard... only to devolve into what he does now with Beej. It's a crazy arc of change.
"There's magic everywhere in this bitch"...
Holy crap, that broke me.
Well...here I am...several episodes deep into my 30th binge of CommodoreHustle...and we come to the infamous Steppe Lynx. GOD I love this series.
And 9 years later Alex finally gets closure.
The fact that this is nearly 6.5 years old makes me uncomfortable.
I KNOW RIGHT
loadingreadyrun your comedy group is older than I am. Which means I probably shouldn't be watching this :P
That's even scarier.
Realizing that the magnets joke originated in 2009 was my crux point to the concept of the sheer passage of time
8 years!
I miss Tim. I hope him and his family are doing well.
They're doing well, last we spoke!
loadingreadyrun wow u guys are awesome
He's a big deal in LOL now and did an AMA recently!
I'm good. :)
I miss this version of hustle alex.
redstranger07 I would love for magic trick Alex to be relevant in hustle again
Oh I don't know. I remember Graham telling a story about Wizards asking if they needed to closely watch Alex during some live event.
I recall Graham saying that it was an event at Yellow Jacket and Nelson was asking if he needed to keep an eye on Alex
Oh Nelson! That's right, my bad.
@Snirky Do you remember where or what video it was in?
Even almost 9 years later this is still worth watching the full way through.
“The last time we picked up a card game, we signed a contract with the manufacturer!”
Oh so *this* is where that started.
Rewatching old content, and the most jarring part of this is clean face Paul
now i want to see more of Alex the magician
This was my first commodore Hustle. Now it's my most awaited lrr content (we started playing magic again the week before this went up 😅)
Oh. lord. I've come from the year 2017 and I don't recognize most of the faces on the intro. I really joined this party late, didn't I?
The fact that I'm not into MTG, and have no idea what you are doing but still enjoy the hell out of content like this just goes to show how awesome you guys are! Love your videos.
That's cool. It probably helps that it's easier to track in terms of amount than position based games, like chess.
B0R3DooM Start playing then :D
Who else came here from Amon-Cats after binging through the entire Friday Nights playlist?
At 7:11 you can see that Alex had a pocket Storm Crow
Just the other day, I was watching this in 240p somewhere else... the reupload is much appreciated, LRR crew!
I always thought the timing at 4:49 was a little off, but only now, over a decade later did I finally notice Kathleen in the back!
9 years it took me to realise Kathleen stole Tim's hat at the start of the episode, which is why he had to come back for it.
I had to back the video up. Gosh darn it you're right!
All these years later and still probably my favorite
Holy shit, I just noticed that Kathleen pops up in the background at 4:50 and I absolutely died of laughter.
Jay Courington I NEVER NOTICED THAT BEFORE
Jay Courington I noticed that too
Is it weird that it was this episode that really got me into magic?
Not at all m8! Welcome!
This is the episode that Introduced me to Magic's existence. Which is honestly just bad marketing on WOTC'S part cause I was 18 at the time and had been playing yugioh for like a decade.
11 years later I finally noticed Kathleen in the card shop scene.
I have played ZEN limited, and I confirm that "I concede" is a good reply to T1 plains + Steppe Lynx.
This was my first LRR Video I had just gotten into MTG and saw this pop up on the Escapist. At this point 10 years of playing MTG and watching LRR completely worth it :)
This is a top 5 episode of theirs. Just brilliant the whole way through.
Best episode of OG cH, hands down.
Kenny The Gamer yeah, hard to beleive this was from 7 years ago
I have watched this video probably ten times (on that other channel that somehow came by your clip) and NEVER EVEN NOTICED Kathleen peeking out in the background at 4:51. Wow. HD really does do something.
I'm so glad you guys finally got the ability to post this one. This is one of your all time greatest commodoreHUSTLEs.
Holy feck, has it really been nearly 7 years?!?! Even after watching so many years of hustle and friday nights, I still haven't gotten around to learning to play Magic so I can get half the jokes, I am a lazy tosspot.....
"There's magic everywhere in this bitch." Probably my favorite line from LRR
I miss the old moon base.
wee all do
"There's magic everywhere in this bitch." Easily one of my favorite Alex lines.
Was wondering when this would get uploaded on here. One of my favorite CH's. Still rewatch it from time to time. Alex is amazing this whole episode and Graham's deadpan, "Is Magic real and are you a wizard?" is always funny.
FINALLY. I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS DAY.
Oooooooh my god you guys looked so young!
This video is actually the first ever I saw by LRR and I've been a fan since.
This is it. The first LRR video I had ever seen which made me a fan on the spot. It's still a great video.
"Of course, Graham. There's Magic everywhere in this bitch."
My favorite line forever.
James has not aged a day in 10 years, and it’s unsettling.
Love this one, you guys where great even back then
wow, I remember this episode when it aired on The Escapist
*What Do You Mean This Video Is Over Ten Years Old.*
The episode of Friday Nights that WotC doesn’t want you to see 🤣 this was the best one too. I know it’s not “technically” Friday Nights but it’s how the series was born. I also like the edgier jokes
The last Alex episode makes SO MUCH sense now.
I had been looking for this video for weeks! It was the first LRR video I had ever seen .
oh man this one was a CLASSIC. one of the best
There was a storm crow when they patted down Alex... how did I never catch that until now
ancient and awesome. this video has got me back into magic twice now!
cheers!
I love the sleight of hand stuff/editing in this xD Comedic gold
"Plains, Steppe Lynx."
Oooooh, NOW I get it!
coming back to this episode after all these years and seeing how it all began for Alex and how it's ended, just gold.
Alex drawing exactly what he needs and Matt continuously drawing/playing lands is a very apt summary of my Magic The Gathering: Arena experiences so far.
Anyone else notice the storm crow Alex was hiding? He really did have magic power!
“Plains, Steppe Lynx”
So this is where it all started.
this was the sketch that started me watching you guys, and got me back into magic. love your work guys :D
They joked about pulling two mythics in the same booster then wizards realised how great of a money making strategy that is
First time I saw Alex with the LRR crew. Made me proud to be an Alex. Thank you, Alex T-T
Finally, an HD version of one of my favorite episodes!
"Want your box now?"
> Hands him an entire box of Rise of the Eldrazi
Why yes, I would love a $1300 booster box. Thank you.
I can't believe that this was seven years ago... UGH, feeling old and unaccomplished.
It is really weird watching this again after so long! Everyone looks so young..
paul dosent age
This was my first EVER loading ready run video. So glad it's on UA-cam now
Finally this is on UA-cam. What a time to be alive.
Well, now the ending of this month's Friday Nights makes a lot more sense.
Watching Friday Nights is what got me into playing MtG, I LOVE this so much.
Huh. Alex's first deck is a Kudoltha Aggro/TimeBomb deck. That seems kind of strong for a first deck.
Man I remember there being a podcast before this episode where they lol'd at the idea of getting back into Magic, and look how much they've grown
So happy that 7 years later and the wiki still has the "sensible guy" bit under James' page
this was the video that made me start watching your videos, its still as good :D
So glad this is on the official channel
Weird how I found LRRMTG, then find their origin story years later.
Love this!!!
Nawww Bill :'(
I know, my heart hurt when I saw him.
So what's his story?
ModernMinded he is one of the crew members who sadly passed away a year or 2 ago.
Despite the fact that this is so old, I still love this cH dearly.
My gosh, loved this episode!
This damn episode got me into Magic. 7 years of domination over my disposable income.
All these years later and I finally notice that Kathleen was also hiding in the way back of the store. Man I love these guys.
Ahh yes, the video that literally got me into Magic. So glad I was able to find it again and that they were able to bring it to youtube. I have no idea why I just searched this up again tho.
I remember the first time I watched this and now I feel old!
Oh man, one of my favorite episodes. :D
This video is gold, "of course Graham, there's magic everywhere in this bitch".
This was the best episode.
This one was amazing and I love it.
