    I’m so happy to have found your video how to fix the slide plate. I thought I had broken it and was going to take my machine in to get repaired. I just fixed it myself following your instructions. Thank you so much!

      I worked all day trying to get it on because it fell off when I dropped my machine. I was trying to put it on from the front instead of the back! I never would have figured it out if not for Andy's video. This was probably one of Singers worst design changes ever.

    I can't thank you enough for posting this. I've never seen a slide plate go in in reverse like this and I was pulling my hair out, reading my manual, watching other UA-cam videos and finally came across this, thank you!

    It's so easy, once one sees what it hooks onto. I have a 401A that had a missing bobbin cover plate. Now that I've received a replacement, and watched your video, it looks like I need a replacement spring clip also. Half of its spring clip is AWOL. A replacement has been ordered. Your channel never lets me down whenever I need to know how to do something with a Singer. Thank you for all your videos!!

    Hello Andy. I have fixed many things around hear with the help of UA-cam. Some of the information on UA-cam varies greatly in quality. I am giving your video an "A+". You didn't give us a lot of needles chatter, you just got right to it, explained it at a speed that I could take in using words that I could understand and images that were clear and close enough to be helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to fill a void for many of us! By the way, my cover plate is now back where it belongs.

    For people who may have arrived here as I have, looking for a solution to a really stubborn slide plate, the answer was to tighten that screw at 4:15 to make sure the clip is really secured in place.

      My husband purchased an industrial sewing machine so he could repair tent tops. I want to use it for upholstery because my Singer didn't like the last project. I purchased a magnetic seam guide for the industrial machine. I decided to check if I could use it with my Singer, so I opened the cabinet but didn't pull the machine up as I was just checking to see if the bed of the machine was metal. The magnet on the guide is quite powerful and rotated and attached to the plate as apparently it is the only metal near where I had the guide. When I pulled the guide the plate came with it. I didn't know how it came off because I had the machine still in the cabinet. Your video helped because we were trying to slide it back on the opposite way.

    Oh wow, I am so glad I found your videos.and I'm wishing I had known all this stuff when I was younger. I got so discouraged from sewing when I was younger because I felt like i kept breaking machines and I never knew how to fix what had happened and no one I asked knew how to help me. I recently decided that I am going to try again but i have to fix my machine first. I feel like i need to know how to maintain it as much as possible if I'm going to use it. Thank you for putting so much information in the video and for speaking clearly! It really is appreciated!!

      @@andytubesewing1953 thank you sir, I inherited one of my grandmother's machine, it's a singer model 5825 without the manual. Fortunately, the other day I found the manual and a parts list with pictures online and was able to download them. I prefer paper but everything is online. I do have a question for you...can you tell me if there is a specific range of model numbers that are somewhat identical to my model? I don't want to have to shun all videos that have nothing to do with my model? Do you see what I'm asking?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  3 роки тому

      @@tobismith7870 I consider your 5825, made in 1994, to be contemporary, and 20 to 50 years newer than the models I work on. It has many smaller plastic parts and came in 6, 8, 10 & 12 stitch pattern models, made in Brazil, Taiwan & a few in France. Kind of the new "Universal World-Wide" models. I don't know much about them. You see on the first page of your Instruction Manual they list several model numbers. The same with the parts diagram manual. In general, your model has an internal motor with a belt-drive, a vertical gear-driven shaft to the bottom pulleys, and a timing belt. A cam stack with a few pattern discs on it. There are a number of vintage machines with similar mechanics; 353, 347, 413, 416, 418, 457. They can have a similar vibrating bracket and feed system but with minor variances. They all have a tension unit that works the same way, metal discs to squeeze the needle thread to create thread tension, but may have slightly different tension parts on the assemblies. That's the thing with sewing machines, the principles are mostly the same. The needle bar goes up & down, the hook goes around & around ( or oscillates) and the two are timed together. They have a bobbin of thread in the hook system to wrap with the needle thread to make the lock-stitch. If they are zigzag models the needle bar has some type of driving arm, moved by the cam stack, that makes the needle swing back & forth (zigzag). If you get the basic principles of how the machine works you will be able to work (and sew) on it. So, some of the model numbers I mentioned could help you with your 5825, and a motor is a motor and foot pedal a foot pedal. I've had people with much older machines and almost new machines of many different brands contact me to say that a certain Singer video I made helped them fix their timing, or feed dog, or zigzag system.

      @@andytubesewing1953 well, sir, I just want yo say thank you so much for all that information, so helpful and add me to that list of people you talked about that you've helped. Just with this particular video, learning how to take that plate off made a world of difference. After being able to take that off and knowing a few basics I was able to find out what was wrong with my machine. You see, I couldn't figure out why the bobbin thread wasn't catching and I was having a hard time believing it was the timing. When I finally got the plate off, it helped me to figure out how some other things were supposed to come off. After seeing and getting some understanding, I noticed that the race had some lint that was stuck to it in one small area on the inside. I had to scrape that off to see if that's what the problem was. I was a lil surprised that that tiny mess made the difference. It was pushing the black bobbin case upward and preventing the upper thread from going where it needed to go. That's it. I'm just really glad that that's all it was. I'm also happy to know I can trust my gut with this. Hope you stay well and safe in this crazy world. Your knowledge and presence is much needed.

    Hi Andy, I have to adjust the bobbin placement with the black spring as you showed me more than usual. I am working with salvaged jeans and going over folded heavy seams when it happens. I think I also got some needle-plate hits but I don’t know if those were already there. It makes a bit of a racket when the bobbin thread gets all caught and the wheel locks! Maybe I should use longer stitches? Any advice?

    The tailor who was my 404s previous owner, I think she broke off the crimped tip on one side of the bobbin plate so it could be removed more easily. I can also see a lot of small gouges from someone lifting the soft metal horizontal edge with the small flat screw driver I found in the drawer.
