Joey Stylez ,Drezus, and other Native indigenous people should make some more songs together!!!! Much respect from Mexica Nahuatl people in Houston , Texas!!!
Love this song by Joey. My mother-in-law went to residential hell. NOT going to call it a "school" and as far as I'm concerned hell couldn't be half as bad as what those places were. Thanks for sharing this, keep making great music!
I'm Native from Mani-Utenam, Qc.. We are the first to live here, we shall be the last to die here. Native Lands to the Native !!! Native Pride and anybody will be able to take it away from us !!!
For me this is Joey's best song. At least in this 1 he actually brings up a real subject and depicts it really well through a quality conceptualized and high quality video. I really like both what he's saying in the hook and the red see-through native flashbacks. It would be nice if Joey could keep it up with this type of music but im pretty sure he knows that this type of music doesnt sell as much, which ultimately makes him less money. Personally id choose respect N influence over money NEday.
I'm glad this song is saying what needs to be said, and that it made it mainstream. People can judge a broke native so easily, but so many who do don't understand their history.
Well imma native chick! & spend my childhood on a rez in NB Canada,, I live in Europe now becuz my mom married a man from Holland. But you know what ppl say;; you'll never forget you rootsz. I go vistit my home every summer ! Spend time with everyone on the rez, & then go back to holland. But i am getting older, and when i am done college! IM MOVING BACK HOME BABYY! hahaha..
Hi everyone I'm from Brazil. Now I live in Canada and I'm at school in Hamilton, Ontario. We read the book Kiss of the Fur Queen, by Thomson Highway, which is about 2 brothers that went to residential school and their lives afterwards. It is a sad story that helped me so much in my understanding about Canada history and about its indigenous people. It is also weird to me that I'm doing this in Canada but never had a chance do to in Brazil - their, our first nations dont have a voice at all, we don't study them, we don't hear from them, it is like they don't exist. But they do, we know it, we just dont talk about it. It is a much worse situation than in Canada. They estimate that when the Portuguese arrived in 1500 there were 4 to 5 millions indigenous people in . Brazil, nowadays they are around 350 thousand in a population of 200 millions Brazilians... Well, but I'm writing to you to ask you a favou and wonder if anyone here could help me.Now I have to choose an official video and song on UA-cam and make a presentation at school related to the book. The song and video that I chose is Living Proof by Joey Stylez. But unfortunately I can't find the lyrics and English is not my first language, so I listened to the song several times and together with friends, we came up with the transcription below. Would you be so kind and please help me to complete the transcription with the missing words and also take a look if everything else is correct? My presentation is due on December 5 I would be extremely thankful! Song LIVING PROOF, by Joey Stylez. UA-cam video: ua-cam.com/video/AnEZnYIlwzU/v-deo.html Tell me what you know about (Lyrics begins at 0:23) Feel the hunger pains This warrior blood runs wild deep into my veins They say adversity feels a beat inside my heart I spend my childhood plotting and scheming in the dark I spend my childhood with the fellows in the dirt On our own, trying to find a way to feed a thirst Please protect me yeah I'm battling while I sleep In the darkness they tell me where the shadows creep Please protect me every move that I’m gonna make I pray above one day my soul you’ll take I pray above one day that the cycle stops Little homies on the block, can they get em popped CHORUS (1:05) __________ in the hood (do ya) And now they wonder why there’s boys in the hood (Boys in the hood, boys boys in the hood) (There’s boys in the hood, boys boys in the hood) I’m recognized as a young gun, a young ________ (1:32) I feel a pride knowing never ever been a runner I’ve been around yeah, this boy's seen a gang of things I’ve seen the world and deception that it brings My man, it's real now tell me where it is you stand I walk the line homie so you gotta understand The _____thing that I fear though my time's near (1:53) You won’t hear me cry even when my time's here You'll only find strength if you dig into my roots When I make it you can say that I’m living proof I represent for my family yeah and all my peeps The ones before me are the ones that had to _______ (2:11) Chorus They say the ________ a man lies in his eyes (2:41) They say it all becomes clear on the day you die But from the very start you had it in your hands I never played the part, I only played the hand Some people say that this life is like a motion picture Look at the screen and you won't like who's standing right there with you And still you wonder why all my brothers keep it trill This poverty and struggle that you see is dead real I will survive, yeah no I’m gonna leave my mark I’m well-equipped with all my soldiers and to make a spark And that’s the bottom line Don’t ask me one more time You know we does a grind You must be out your mind Chorus
This video is how i first found out about the residential school sytem. As my province of New Brunswick only had day schools and didn't effect my native family members.

@Way2Spirited because without it we would have missed out on many great things...no culture stays the same forever, there must always be changes, bad or good there are still changes..what makes our culture so great is our ability to adapt to our surroundings and thrive in any enviroment,no matter what anyone says we are still the dominating race in canada, sure theres alot of white/black/asian people here but there are more treaty and metis blood people in this country than there are of any others
It means something to grow your hair out for Natives like you,I'm growing my hair out too!!Shout out to Joey Stylez!!!

Tell me what you know about (Lyrics begins at 0:23)
Feel the hunger pains
This warrior blood runs wild deep into my veins
They say adversity feels a beat inside my heart
I spend my childhood plotting and scheming in the dark
I spend my childhood with the fellows in the dirt
On our own, trying to find a way to feed a thirst
Please protect me yeah I'm battling while I sleep
In the darkness they tell me where the shadows creep
Please protect me every move that I’m gonna make
I pray above one day my soul you’ll take
I pray above one day that the cycle stops
Little homies on the block, can they get em popped
CHORUS (1:05)
__________ in the hood (do ya)
And now they wonder why there’s boys in the hood
(Boys in the hood, boys boys in the hood)
(There’s boys in the hood, boys boys in the hood)
I’m recognized as a young gun, a young ________ (1:32)
I feel a pride knowing never ever been a runner
I’ve been around yeah, this boy's seen a gang of things
I’ve seen the world and deception that it brings
My man, it's real now tell me where it is you stand
I walk the line homie so you gotta understand
The _____thing that I fear though my time's near (1:53)
You won’t hear me cry even when my time's here
You'll only find strength if you dig into my roots
When I make it you can say that I’m living proof
I represent for my family yeah and all my peeps
The ones before me are the ones that had to _______ (2:11)
Chorus
They say the ________ a man lies in his eyes (2:41)
They say it all becomes clear on the day you die
But from the very start you had it in your hands
I never played the part, I only played the hand
Some people say that this life is like a motion picture
Look at the screen and you won't like who's standing right there with you
And still you wonder why all my brothers keep it trill
This poverty and struggle that you see is dead real
I will survive, yeah no I’m gonna leave my mark
I’m well-equipped with all my soldiers and to make a spark
And that’s the bottom line
Don’t ask me one more time
You know we does a grind
You must be out your mind
Chorus
Thank you for learning about our history
Wow, I've never heard about Brazils history, thank you for sharing with us
This video is how i first found out about the residential school sytem. As my province of New Brunswick only had day schools and didn't effect my native family members.
this song has a message, it isnt just some self proclaiming "look how rich i am" garbage track that is mainstream music.
Lets sum thiz up! Blacks, Natives, all peoples of colour were oppressed by the man over the centuries! Lets stop fightin' amongst ourselves and deal with what really matters now! Go Obama! I'm Native and my boyfriend is straight from Trini! Got nothin but love for all y'all!
