I did the bottle trap and it worked ok with the banana peals then one evening I had forgot to empty the coffee grounds out of my coffee pot. The next morning there were fruit flies all in the grounds. I decided after seeing that I put the coffee grounds in the trap. In just a hr I had caught more flies faster than the fruit.
R. Dones did you have water with the grounds or how did you do it?
Did this really work. These pests are driving me crazy 😢😢
... fruit flies also known by their scientific name 'those miniature bastards ' !!!
MegaHockeypuck1 i fell asleep on my couch to realize those freaking things like to try getting on your face. I felt like vacuuming them all lol
I love this guy. Dude's awesome. Looks like Robin Williams.
His voice is calming, too, and I like his corny jokes! I can read people’s auras and this guy is an amazing person. I’m glad he had a UA-cam channel for him to shine and share his personality with the rest of us!
Nixie is my stripper name
Genius. I love simple, easy, effective, and readily available!
Perfect timing. Its that time of the year here in Australia.
Thanks for the feedback Sir! I have been getting a lot of "this didn't work" comments lately, but it's always worked like a champ for me. Thanks for letting me know that the trap hasn't lost it's touch. Still trying to figure out what those other folks are doing wrong...
I tried the spider route. then I got lizards eating my spiders. then I got a snake inside going after the lizards. I like your trap idea better !!
crosspecans - 😂😂🇦🇺😂😂
Get bullfrogs! Everyone likes bullfrogs!
ooh i see, fancy yourself a man of nature eh
Was there an old lady involved, then a spider, then a cat, then a dog 😂
I couldn't figure out why I had so many fruit flies around, considering there was NO fruit in the house or food on the counter. When you said they like to nest in the sink it made complete sense! I usually find them near the sink! I'm trying this the minute I get home! THANKS!
Another variation that I've found useful of this trap is to fill the bottom of whatever container I'm using (typically a small tupperware container) with 1/2 to an inch of apple cider vinegar (I've used regular and rice wine, those work too) and add a few drops of dish liquid to the vinegar and stir it around until it's dissolved. The vinegar attracts them and the dish liquid breaks the surface tension so they're sucked in and drown. Works like a charm.
I made these with regular sized water bottles and it was a miracle! I was hosting woodstock for fruit flies in my kitchen. I made four traps, a new one each day until they were gone. I didn't have cider so I put little chunks of fruit in it that were very ripe. The hardest part was figuring out how to dispose of them afterwards.
Thank you so much for your video! Someone told me to use a water bottle, but I couldn’t envision it because I didn’t know where the vinegar would go if i “just cut a water bottle in half and flip it over” was the directions they gave me. Also, your voice is calming and I found you funny, too. Thank you, thank you! I’m definitely going to come to see other videos you post about the garden.
I loved the quote “we like to do things right around here.” YUP! I agree with you! If we’re going to do something, let’s do it the right way!
Instructions weren’t thorough. I lost my girlfriend in the trap this morning.
@Tran Truong Thanks for the smile, you're good. Uh actually bad for letting your girlfriend near it; I hope you managed to save her 😂😂
Hahaha 😂
If you add just a few drops of dish soap to the apple cider vinegar, then it creates a thin film on top of the vinegar which the fruit flies land on and then fall through. They are then trapped and can't try to fly out again. I make this in small 1 oz containers and cover with punctured cling wrap to make it harder for any to escape.
to hell with the humane bullshit just buy a few cans of TAT flying insect spray, they drop dead falling from the air it's sweet revenge
Does that work with coconut vinegar?
That works really good, I didn't have any apple cider vinegar so I used a piece of almost rotten banana, it works!
This worked like a charm for me. In a matter of a few hours I had about 50-60 in my trap. Thanks, YourProduceGuy, you really helped me out! :-)
Just tried this using a couple of apple cores, and it works just as well.
Your method like alot. It looks easy and I'm sure it is effective. I about to get a couple of traps started. Thanks for the video
I tried something similar and it works great!
Love the video!
Red Whine with dish soap stirred a little. In a small cup. The soap keeps them in and drowns them.
How bout having some fun and putting a spider in that fly trap? :)
It just has to be something that will attract the flies. Vinegar is good because most people have it in their cupboards.
White vinegar work??
Only apple viniger
I have a ton of blue belly lizards that hang out near the fly traps and pick ‘em off before they enter their final destination 🤣 🦎
Before going on vacation i accidentally left a piece of food in my house, when i came back the kitchen was swarming with fruitflies, here is what i did. get a small open container, pour some applevinegar, a bit of water, and a drop of detergent to release surface tension, no need to stir,. First hour some had drowned but most were sitting on the edge. 1 day later i found 20+ flies on the bottom. Leave it there a couple of days and voila. Worked for me.
I tried making a trap this way but it didn't work very well. Since the bottle top didn't form a seal with the bottom where it was inverted, I had flies coming in and sneaking out the gap. The way I make fruit fly traps is similar and works on the same principle. I put apple cider vinegar in the bottle and if I have a piece of overripe or rotten fruit, I toss that in. I do not cut the 2 liter bottle. I take a piece of plastic wrap and cover the bottle opening. Secure it with a rubber band so the plastic wrap is tight. Poke a few holes with the tines of a fork. It's amazing how fast they will clear an area. I have several traps going at a time because of the season but also because of my parrot who eats mostly fruits and veggies.
I tried plan B, now my house is infested with spiders... please someone... help me....
Oh there's only one solution now. Burn down your house.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WhatAreYouBuyen 😂😂😂
Just wait a bit, spiders are cannibals.
Peppermint oil and spray.
Thank you for this video. This looks like it will work and the container looks pretty good too. Thanks again.
A bottle with a larger neck is going to increase the chances that some of the flies will find their way out. I would stick to a smaller necked bottle if you can find one. Ask your neighbors. They probably drink soda if you don't.
Good tip. I've used this trap in the past with great results. In fact, it was the ONLY way I found to quickly get rid of fruit flies.
Thanks YPG!
I got fruit flies! :( I Don't have apple cider vinegar. Is there any place you can buy apple cider vinegar?
Any grocery store
If you put a lot of vinegar will it be a bad thing
Thank you so much for this! It was very informative (as usual).
Excellent presentation!
Thanks for the tip. This worked great.
Thank you Sir :D
I've done red wine and soap. Give it a couple days. At first I thought it didn't work, then I noticed there weren't that many flies and when I went to rinse out the jar there were tons of flies! I no longer have a jar so I'll try this method next and see if it works.... I literally woke up from a random nap with my cereal bowl next to me with my lights on and saw all these gnats surrounding my bedroom lamp... talk about fear.
This couldn't have come at a better time! I'm going crazy here!
Best and easiest solution ! Thanks
this apple cider works great for getting them.. I've done it!
Thank you Mr. I will make my own trap for the flies.
1 dislike is from a group of fruit flies that worked together as a team to press the mouse button, and hit dislike
Hi Y.P.G,
That's how we get rid of them fruit flies organically...this method I learnt from my uncle, few months ago and it works great. Though, the vinegar i use is aged home made vinegar, which has a very potent smell, similar to that of gasoline. I distribute a bunch of soda bottles around the orchard, to control the fruit fly population on my Psdium's trees, which are truly a magnet for the fruit flies. This method is also commonly used throughout the Island(Madeira).
Great idea gonna try it. Your right Produce Guy about the flies in the drain I turn on the water and some fly out. Gonna get a liter bottle soon. thanks
Works awesome! Thanks!! Saved our kitchen :)
I use generic ACV for my fruit fly traps(and it works just fine), and I use my Bragg ACV for myself, those pesky little jokers doesn't deserve my expensive Bragg, not 1 drop of it...ALL MINE...lol.
Nice video sir.
I looked up a trap and made one different because I did not have a bottle.
If you do not have a 2 liter bottle:
-have a jar or some type of bottle with a thin neck.
-if the neck isn't thin enough, roll up some paper and funnel it in the neck of the jar/bottle.
-add some rotting fruit to the apple cider vinegar.
-add a bit of dish soap to break the surface tension to help drown the flys
great job and funny too! how about using the cap and punch 3-4 pea size holes in it? I think that will reduce the chances for them to escape. just a thought. thanks
They won't find their way in as easily. May work, depending on size.
I'm going to make one now, thanks for the tip.
i like this guy. watched the entire video even though i knew this trick. a side note, drain flies and fruit flies are different creatures. if you have fruit flies, no need to worry about the drains.
This method perfectly work for me :)
Yeah right 😼 Wying
Thank you, this sounds like it should work great. And I'd just like to say you're very charismatic.
Lookin for some D ^^
Quick efficient way to get rid of fruit flies!!!!
Very good video, thanks for the information
Well i used your second suggestion and went with the spiders.. so now i have a spider infestation, THANKS A LOT ProduceGuy...
Great tip. I am going to try this for sure.
I used wine- Chardonnay. Worked good to.
THESE FLIES ARE CARNIVOROUS!!!
Nicely Done! Thanks
Thatz a great idea, so is it just for fruit flies or can I use it for other type of flies
Around here we refer to those giant grapefruit-like fruits as Pomelo, or sometimes Pummelo. They can be eaten when green, but I would want them to be at least turning yellow and not a 'dead' green color. The flesh should not carry the bitterness of other grapefruits, but man...are those skins on them thick! Enjoy the fruit and let me know how it is.
Brilliant Idea!!
Thanks for info!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the tip btw! I'm personnaly using a bowl with pierced saran wrap on top and an eaten fruit inside(apple core for exemple) they just love it but they don't die... gotta put them in the microwave a few seconds..
This trap is AWESOME! Works like a charm and only cost me a nickel for the deposit that I lost........way to go, produce guy!
Thank you sir , is it work with all kind of fruit fly
Instructions unclear. My kitchen is now controlled by a sea of spiders.
Mine dint seem to care for the cider vinigar. I was told to try beer somewhere else. I may try that next.
Beer? Oh, the waste! Oh, The horror!
I used balsamic. It smells kind of winey. Plus I add a little vodka. They are very attracted to ethyl alcohol.
THIS MAN IS A GENIUS.. MY NEW IDOL
thanks for the tip. its done and ready for use :)
this reminds me of a homemade bong lol
mah man. is it gravity bong? im so high right now i decided to get rid of these fucking fruit flies. like these fuckers just radomly spawns in my house. fuck these species man.
This is so perfect thank you
Can't wait till summer to try this.
Hey, I was hoping you could talk about Pommel. I just got one, and the store attendant told me not to eat it while it's green but I'm not so sure that he's right. So when is the grapefruit like fruit ready to eat?
What about gnats....will that also work on getting rid of them?
great tip will try it
so b/c I eat mostly fruits & vegetables I have had a major infestation of fruit flies, I love this trick & I did it 4 days ago. What a difference! I made more than 1 & while there are still a few of them flying around I am pleased for the most part. I simply took 3 jars, put apple cider vinegar and dish detergent in it cover it with plastic wrap & poked tiny holes.
that makes sense about the drain i sure do have them in my bathroom hate those adrn things this is what i'm going to use thank you
This is GENIUS - thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I might have to try this tip out..
He should add some liquid soap as well
i love it ! thanks
This is awesome thanks so much. These lil guys are driving me nuts def don't like the spider idea lol
it works.. thanks
Awesome trap!
This.....this, is genius!
I love this idea, thank you.
I tried this and it worked. I didn't have the apple vinegar though, so I used leftover grapefruit rinds with some fruit still on them instead. WORKED GREAT!!!! I had hundreds of them trapped that I had no idea were present in my home. I made a second one and put it on the second level of my house, again, hundreds more! As sickened as I was, I was more relieved that they were TRAPPED!!!!
We get them esp with overripe bananas. Could use other size of bottles?
I like to add a strip of fly paper around the upside-down lid. Sadly, can't get the good old yellow strip kind anymore; the white kind doesn't work well but must be cheaper to make.
I tried vaseline around the edges, but those smart fruit flies just avoid it. Dang. But it does force them to fly lower and closer to the nectar annihilator.
I pour boiling water down my drains to scald the little beggars to lights-out land.
I really have to try this gosh
Love this. Thank you so so much
I will try it !
So how long should it take before I start seeing the fruit flies gather in this trap?
this is awesome thank you
I think I will try the spider method lol👍
Great tip!
ok we have no vinegar so I've opted to put some fruit juice and the actual fruit to see if they go in there. (tangerine and grapes)
Patricia de Souza forget that, got some gone off red wine turned vinegary and it worked. also good for cooking chicken if u want. they are too smart for the bottle trick.
Thank you
I use cheap red wine and it works great!
Thanks
Since I don't drink soda I used one of those clear cups and dome lids that you get when you buy a smoothie. I mix a solution of 1/4 cup of water, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 drop of dish liquid soap and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix and then turn the dome lid upside down and place on the top of the cup. You don't have to do any cutting since the dome lid already has a hole and I find it's bigger than the opening of a soda bottle top.
I tried a coffee cup, but it didn't work very well. I think the clear plastic cups that you can see thought works a lot better. I could not get over the number of flies I had in just one day.
This trap should be good for about a week.
P.S. Do keep the kitchen clean of dirty dishes and pour a little bleach down the kitchen sink drain from time to time. (If you don't like to use bleach then put some baking soda and little lemon juice in the drain over night).
'Having trouble finding Apple Cider Vinegar here in the UK, what's the next best thing to use as bait? Apple Cider or Vinegar?
Awesome! I need to catch some fruit flies for my praying mantis nymph
Thank you produce guy
